Sometimes it's instant, you walk in, and are immediately dead. Sometimes you get SOO CLOSE to overcoming it, only to then be wiped out. No matter what you do, you can NOT beat this obstacle. you can NOT continue the game. you've tried looking for ways around it, another path or an item that you missed, but there isn't any. it's either beat this encounter, or stop playing.
So what do you do?
You stop playing, at least for a little while. Maybe pick up something else instead to help you cool off. Maybe you'll come back with a clear head, maybe you won't come back at all. either way, you're getting out of a stressful situation because it's actively hurting you.
If other people were actively being hurt because I started playing that game? Then I guess I'd suck it up and power through no matter how bad it sucked. Being a good person isn't about doing what's best for yourself if other people get hurt as a result. El's not some innocent bystander. She's complicit in helping create a situation where other people are dying. She helped the Toaster gather power and resources, and she also walked away when she could have helped Ardon stop him. Now she's still running from the situation and whining that she might have to deal with it one day.
That's her right to do...but it's not the right thing to do.

Re: Will Save World for Gold
if you look ahead a few pages though, Odie was also knocked out/back during that encounter, and then taken away. Terry wasn't confirmed dead until a page or two later. i should read the page more.
the lightning was bright though and Odie was probably focusing more on Krakaboom then the barkeep. so he might not have noticed.

Or he just figured that Terry coming back back to life in a world with resurrection magic isn't that crazy.
Or maybe he thinks they're talking about a different person named Terry.
Or someone pretending to be Terry, hence the air quotes.
Really, there are quite a few explanations Odi could have come up with, so his lack of confusion is not unbelievable.

I mean...the first explanation doesn't work because Ell never implied it was crazy. She just said that Terry left town after he got raised and Odie was surprised to learn that Terry died. Which I think also means it doesn't really make sense that he thought she was talking about a different person. I suppose it makes sense that he just didn't realize that Terry died in Dire's attack.

We know he's not good at counting the skull ghosts. I guess he just missed it.

Re: Will Save World for Gold
Given the fact that everyone stopped posting I'm going to assume that I'm not the only one who feels like the comic desperately misses Ardon, and probably 45 as well. As nice as it is to have Odie back, he's just not entertaining enough to carry a comic the way Ardon was.

Re: Will Save World for Gold
i'm still enjoying the comic. there just hasn't been much discussion-worthy lately.

Likewise. This was never a particularly active thread to begin with (it started in 2015 and we're only on page 40).

Re: Will Save World for Gold
While some of the OotS page threads can hit 40+ REALLY quickly.

But few actually do, last I checked. But when they go through the roof, they do so quickly.
While still following the comic, I don't see much that needs urgent analysis and immediate nerdy discussion.
It's a nice development because there are less "OMG, why did Ardon do that, when will he finally bite the dust???" moments. He is dead now, good for him. I really hope that the apparition Odie had recently was just a figment of Odies' own imagination. I for one can live with a loooooong Ardon-free time.
So they found more constructs (warforged? toasters?) dressed as animals and red-robed guys with nefarious plans. And Peanut went to the King of Whiteness who is a detached fool, apparently, to blab about Southern Crossing. Sure, why not. I'm okay with a story arc that slowly unfolds.

Re: Will Save World for Gold
Guess Odie didn't get to keep it as a possible pet. But it probably for the best since it could have been a bomb too.

Re: Will Save World for Gold
maybe with some Feywild tech, he could reactivate it as a familiar? :P

If you want an indication of how old this thread is, it was one of the first I ever posted in back when I joined the Playground. Also, a reply to said post:

He's the Lord of Drakes, non-Chandea's father.

Can someone explain to me the "skin crawl" pun, or are not supposed to get that yet?

I'm assuming it's referencing all the surgical body horror that we saw the Lord of Drakes do. Perhaps it goes further into a necromantic territory, so he could rip off someone's skin and then literally make it crawl.
-
Re: Will Save World for Gold
i was going to explain the phrase "so and so makes my skin crawl" but then i saw the "pun intended" line... yeah not sure i get that.
i know what the phrase "bob makes my skin crawl" means. not sure what the pun is.

Re: Will Save World for Gold
Have we seen Dusky yet? If not, it's possible he's a Carrion Crawler or something.

Re: Will Save World for Gold
My first thought right now was that a magical house rose from the ground, still covered in the aura.
But really, this is El's sword, is it? And she's going to yell 'I am a paladin' and kill the dreamwalker?

Re: Will Save World for Gold
So night hag visits Ardons head, that has the potential to end poorly.

Yeah, poorly is one word for it.

Re: Will Save World for Gold
Is this some sorcerer stuff, or is Odi just a really active dreamer?

I believe it is his sorcerer stuff given his comment about how he learned how to use charisma for something other than talking. More specifically it is the same stuff that he used to help Ardon lock away the nightmare spirit.

Well, I just looked up the stat blocks for 4e night hags(and dream hags just in case), and it doesn't have anything to do with either of the abilities Mora used. I also have played sorcerers before, and I never saw anything like that happen. Looks like LoneStarNorth made a custom night hag for this one, and Odie has some dream powers from the nightmare spirit thing.
So both Odie using some sorcerer stuff, and him having been a really active dreamer.
Edit: this didn't come out the most coherent. I can't really think of how to make it more clear, but if anyone has any questions about what I was saying, I'll answer them (hopefully a lot more coherently).
