Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
[vagueramble]
You know, I've noticed all the recently failed Sci-Fi FFRP attempts have gotten darker, and edgier, and darker, and grimmer, and realisticer, and edgy, and dark. Maybe we need some butter-soft, Crystal Spires and Togas Space Opera going on? I dunno; I just saw this pic and was inspired. Maybe if we got every cheesy, Space Is An Ocean, Golden Age of Exploration, Officer And A Gentleman, and other related tropes and just mashed them together, something might take off? Just a thought.
Other idea that's been burning in my skull since I picked up the series again recently: Wheel of Time ITP! Mostly so I because I need somewhere to put my Red Ajah sister and my Whitecloak so they can point and laugh at everyone else.
I mean:
"Pffffft. You picked Blue!? BAHAHAHAHA! Loser!"
*casually gentles a nearby Gary Stu male channeller*
*kicks a nearby man because he is a man*
And:
"I hate all Aes Sedai witches, and like drawing the Dragon's Fang on the doors of harmless fools and village healers, inciting riots against lawful rulers because they won't let me ruthlessly persecute their innocent subjects, and long walks on the beach! Also, you looked me in the face, therefore I will hang you as a Darkfriend! Go Light!"
What could go wrong?

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Damn, I love that pic you just linked!
On another note, YES! WoTitP. DO IT. We can ruin Canonicity FOREVER!

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Every time we try to come up with a Sci-Fi FFRP, nobody seems to want in, or we make it focused too much on 'Hard' Sci-Fi, which is not really any fun. There's also the problem that space is really big. There's so much space for players to be nowhere near each other, which also isn't fun when there's already few people. :smallfrown:
I do love Sci-Fi, though.
Also, pre-emptively choosing title for WoTitP: "Thread 50 and still nothing has happened" :smalltongue:

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Also half the posts will just be describing everyone's clothes and embroidery, and all female dialogue will consist entirely of sniffs and complaining about men.
The penalty for overpowered characters will be a liberal application of Cadsuane.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
"Space is big" is the main problem. For space rp to work, you really need a GM directing things and keeping everyone together. We thought with the last one we could confine everyone to one system to help things along, but it still had the problem of once you're on spaceship x or planet y, you can't interact with people on spaceship a or planet b. It's a lot easier when you can wander out of Trog's and be at Watchtower as soon as the 60 second post buffer allows you to.
That, and it's just really hard to start new freeform universes, even if there's a lot of support from the beginning.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
I almost think it'd almost pay to have a Sci-fi plot that didn't focus on the space-faring. Like, everything taking place on a Hub planet. A really big city with lots of aliens stopping by and living there. Of course, then there's the problem of "How do you keep that interesting". Sci-fi seems to be a bit of a hole when it comes to doing it well.
-
Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Rather than a planet, one could always go the route of having some sort of City Ship as the hub area. That way, everyone won't be spread across the galaxy and city-wide events will keep it interesting due to the fact that anything bad happening on the ship will affect everyone.
And we could say that the ship will dock every few months or so for supplies and trade or whatever.
Just an idea.
-
Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Confining the setting takes away from the Space Opera appeal though. It's hard to work out the balance.
I wouldn't join it though, since I can't even get as much RP in the Nexus as I'd like. So discount my opinion appropriately.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
With all the Animeitp groups around, would a Fairy Tale RP garner any interest I wonder?

That was tried before.
It got quite a bit of interest I think, but it didn't last long...
-
Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
That's a shame, maybe we could try it again and see if it can last longer?

Is there Any Post Apocalyptic RPGs Here? I'm Looking for something like a free form version of 'After The Bomb'

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
For those interested in Fairy Tail as a series, going to try and drum up interest in a game here on these boards. The OOC can be found here.

*snerk*
Jokes aside? I'd love to take part in a WoTitP. Probably a Blue Ajah sister, who actually tries very, very hard to avert the 'snobbish towards other Ajahs' that most Aes Sedai have going on.
Or towards non Aes Sedai, for that matter.
-
Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
A nice Aes Sedai? Pffft. You're no fun.
...
Of course, my own idea is a Red Ajah sister who actually likes tolerates men (and thinks of Gentling as saving them from a horrible, horrible fate), so I suppose I can't complain against breaking traditions. Also she really hates that Reds aren't allowed to take Warders.
...
So she decided to become her own Warder.
...
She is a Saldean, after all.
...
Unless I make her Domani, just for the lulz. Still haven't decided yet.
But we probably need more support before we can get started. Three Four people is not enough!
Edit: Also I've decided she's pretty disdainful of the other Ajahs.
Spoiler
Show
"Oh, so you joined Green in order to prepare for Tarmon Gai'don? Okay, see you in about another thousand years or so."
And of course:
"... So, you spent 10 years mastering saidar, the female half of the One Power that drives the very Wheel of Time itself. You can Heal fatal wounds in merest seconds. You can make balls of fire sprout from your fingertips and lightning fall like rain. You can create a tempest from the lightest breeze, and split the earth with a gesture. You've disciplined yourself so much, you can walk across a desert without sweating a drop, and take a knife to the ribs without letting the pain show on your face. Kings hop when you say toad, and your very presence causes Queens to kneel down in awe. You are Aes Sedai. And yet you chose to lock yourself in the White Tower and pursue basic problems of logic that any half-educated Cairhienien scholar could have done just as easily? Well, whatever suits your bloody fancy, I suppose."

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Yes, but what does she think of the Blue? :smalltongue:
-
Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Heh. Immediate thoughts are for a Borderlander(Will probably decide which later on) Warder. XD

So...the Nexus?
Why not just add a space thread to the Nexus?

I tried making a WoTitP a while back. As I recall, onset my hopes too high and Horngeek was the only one who showed any interest at all.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Looking back at that thread, I think the problem with that thread was that everyone was setting their expectations a bit too high... when you've got players clamoring to play the Amyrlin Seat, the Dragon Reborn, The Forsaken... even the bloody Blight... well... I think that level of scope's a little bit too massive. I think things would run much more smoothly if everyone sticks to playing normals. Well... if you can call Aes Sedai 'normal'. There's nothing saying that the plot, if we have one, has to be as far reaching and epic as the one of the books.

That's what I was trying to say. I kinda went for more of a game where people led groups instead of people...

Has anyone ever tried a magical girl game?

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
I'd be interested in playing in one as a villain if it got off the ground.

Ideally, it would be like that kingdom hearts game where some characters would be part of a villainous group.

Sounds fine with me, I did say a villain after all

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Weeeeiiiiird idea, but what about something akin to an SCP RP? Anyone interested in that idea?
