Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
Rover turns to the boy: "Do you have any idea where we could get a transport here? Otherwise, I'd suggest we walk."

Rosa
"Does anyone have enough money to rent one?" Rosa asks. She hadn't brought very much. At the moment, she wouldn't mind walking a ways—spending several hours on a small boat has left her wanting to stretch her legs—but she might feel differently after a few hours of hiking...

"Umm... I haven't really spent that much time among commoners... I'm sure there's someplace you could hire a transport of some sort, though..."

If you actively search for vehicles for hire, give me a Gather Information roll.

The soldier starts looking around then...

Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
It's plainly apparent that some of the motor carriages trundling through the streets are for hire, but no other options are apparent without a more thorough investigation. Does he hail a taxi?

Ehh, big taxis. It's a different planet!
One of the red carriages pulls over and slows to a halt.
"Where ya headed?" its driver asks.

Rover looks at the boy for help - he doesn't want to give the Perio Estate as the destination, but doesn't know the city well enough to know another place in the vicinity. If he doesn't suggest something, he will name the Estate, though - everythings better than just standing out in the open.

Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
"Grosser's Gardens," the boy suggests.
"You hirin' a city cab to take you all the way up there in the hills? I'll drive ya, but it'll cost ya an arm an' a leg."
-
Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
"Well?"
Rover looks the group over, and if nobody protests, he will take the cab driver up on the offer and usher the group into the taxi.

Li does a quick internal consideration of his funds.
"I have a fairly decent amount of money left... If we all chip in, I'll be able to pay an equal share."

Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
Bricriu
The old man shakes his head some at their quick desire to grab a vehicle."So eager to get there fast? Life is a journey, not a destination. A walk will do you all good; allow you to reconnect to something inside." He is reluctant to mention the Ashla by name out of concern for the attention it can bring. "If you so desire to go, go, go, go, then you will have difficulty in finding peace. Stop and smell the flowers sometimes. The world is not all fast transport and violence. Listen to it echo through you..." The first lesson begins.

Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
At this point, Rover, whose nerves already are kinda strained, snaps. He turns around to the monk, and with a very subdued voice hisses to him:
"Reality check, Monk. We are not here to learn. We are here to do a job. Play wiseguy all you want, but if you sabotage the mission you can take a hike and wait here, understood?"
The big man glowers down at Bricriu from his formidable height for a moment, before returning to the cabdriver.

Bricriu
"If you are not here to learn, then you will not succeed. Life teaches many lessons, but if you choose not to learn, then you cannot grow and accomplish your goals." His voice is unruffled, unbothered by Rover's apparent attitude.

Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
"So that'll be five passengers and the old man walks?" the cabbie asks.
-
Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
"Exactly."
The soldier doesn't bother to answer again. If he got into an argument, he would probably screw the monk's head off and that would be no help at all...

Bricriu
Bricriu shrugs some, turns, and heads in the direction of the home. They will come to it, each in their own time. Let us hope that it doesn't take too long. This is a dangerous world for those with hot heads.
-
Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
"Hop in," the cabbie suggests, indicating the vehicle's doors, "And good luck on the roads, grandpa!"
-
Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
Rover will do exactly that, shooing the boy in and - once seated - explain to him why a leisurely walk to the streets would be a very dangerous idea, especially considering the reason why they are here in the first place.
-
Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
"Hey, I'm not the one you need to convince," Cal replies to Rover's attempts to communicate the urgency of their task.
The interior of the motor carriage isn't entirely comfortable, and the seat cushions are threadbare with wear, but it's spacious enough to accommodate the whole group with ease. Lacaeans are notorious for having large families and Lacaean vehicles are sized appropriately.
-
Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
"Good."
The tall man leans back into the cushions, entirely oblivious to the less than luxurious surroundings. "It will make this a lot easier."

Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
Sighing, Li does not enter the cab, giving a passing; "I'll meet you there.", as he moves with alacrity to catch up with Bricriu. He had felt some of the wisdom in the Monk's words, but mainly he did not wish to give in to his impatience. The last time he had let his impulses and emotions rule him, he had ended up almost throttling a young boy who had made a mistake. Albeit a colossal one, but still a mistake.
"Wait, Bricriu. I shall accompany you. The roads are lonely - and possibly dangerous."
-
Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
Bricriu
"So is life. You cannot get out of bed without danger. However, I do appreciate the company. Too long have I shunned the company of others. The road seems long, but our burden is light." Bricriu smiles warmly at Li.
-
Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
Li smiles back in a friendly manner, moving to match Bricriu's pace.
"Of course. We may even meet them as they are coming back, should they drop the boy off without trouble. I mentioned before at the house of Gorgias, that I wanted to speak with you about your views on the Ashla and Bogan - I would be pleased if you would share with me your opinions. "

Jo
For her part, Jo finds the who business of securing transport somewhat beneath her, but is happy enough to ride once everything is worked out. Sighing at the old man and the young man as she sits, she continues to keep her silence through the ride, lost in her own thoughts.

Rosa
Rosa glances after Li and Bricriu as they set out walking, but ends up getting into the cab rather than follow. "How long will it take to get there?"

Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
"Me?" the cabbie asks, "Oh I'd say 'bout 20 minutes max.. How long will it take them? Who knows?"
-
Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
"Well, that's their problem. Drive, please."
Rover orders the cabbie to start, now that everybody is on board. Hopefully, this will be a short trip. And hopefully, it will be the last mission to work with people this... thoughtless.

Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
Bricriu
"Are you sure you want to hear this? I can go on for a while. I do my best not to, but...it's a compulsion I've developed since taking on the monk's lifestyle." His eyes twinkle some as he speaks. Despite how ruffled he seemed at times the night before talking to Gorgias, he seems completely at ease...full of a quiet contemplative glow. "As I said, I've been away from people for too long. It is conflict that strengthens us...and isolation that weakens us. I wonder if my self-imposed exile since the master's death did me more harm than good."

Re: Dawn of the Jedi ~ Act I: There is no Emotion, There is Peace
"Oh; of course. I'm sure that we will become tired of walking soon enough, a little conversation would prove ample distraction. You mentioned some interesting ideas, earlier."
