Eh, depends on the character. Yuri has a smirk while Estelle has a concerned face.
Then how about this? Anise looks like she's smiling, Tear is neutral/serious, and Luke is bored. The point is, I wanted Aria to have a serious facial expression as her default facial expression during battle. It used to be smiling, I changed it to serious, and just wanted to let people know.
This is another feature of the Tales games.
A good example is here.
Notice how they are still hanging in midair. But I don't think they can be talking. Plus think how this would slow down comic battles if they did this every time they wanted to use an item.
Needs more sound effects for the pause menu.
(Like a little "Di-Ling!" or somesuch.)
Love this  Keep it up. Meanwhile, "Subscribes*

Quit breaking the fourth wall, it's way too amusing! :smallwink:
Nice one. But what did she mean whith that is why you are so weak?
Soooo good. And I can now say that I got a Primatar. But how would it look if you were to shrink that down to standard 120 by 120 avatar size, then use it in each panel of a fully sized OotS wecomic? The details would also shrink and you would end up not being able to see any details.
And who knows, I may change their designs again one day, or some later character will have tons of details. What I am looking forward too are the classic Tales cameos. I've already had one, and their will be more.
And to answer Ninjaman's question, They were level 1 with 150 HP, and if she's teaching them about combat, then Aria must be a few levels higher. It was mostly her talking to herself.
Eh, details were the point of that pic. :smalltongue:

Awesome. New comic! Yay!
Wow ..this is ... wow ... brilliant :) ... Keep up the good work dude .. :)
Just based on 9 strips...The quality of this comic is way over par. Love it ...
Edit: If you ever need an external site to host this we'd love to make a comfortable place for it on The Direbunny

Tried to get a spongy cloud effect at first but then decided to use a feathered cloud, not quite happy with the result, but I hope it's enough to justify the period between my summoning and my appearance.

I've gotta say this is rather impressive.
The colouring scheme is rather soft yet not mute, it's nice on the sight and the character design is simple yet fine tuned and engaging. The scenery is greatly done, with softened tones and a bit of opacity. Terrains are used to great measure, also, there are transitions, this is an attention to detail that I hadn't seen for a great while, and there is also a posterized gradient for terrains which is rather nice, specially on the overview maps.
Actions are rather fluid, dialogue boxes do not cramp around and seem rather natural, expositions flow. It perfectly captures the JRPG feeling and the Tales dynamics. Interfaces get a nice Paper Mario -esque feeling to it yet are rather sleek and get a modern touch which blends in beautifully. Backgrounds get a feeling of life, background characters do things and change their behaviours, crowds are composed of individuals, enemies feel generic yet unique in a true RPG-ish fashion.
Head movement indicating facing and tilting is something I had never seen being used to such detail until now.
In other words: It's awesomely awesome.
The only REALLY minor detail would be that the multiple slashes seem weird since the slashes are there yet the sword is in resting position, I would suggest making a blur there with the sword doing the last slash, or going the visual novel way of blackening the screen, only showing the slashes and then the enemy getting cut and the attacker on resting position.
Will most definitely keep reading, already suscribed, and will try to produce more fanart.

I don't know what to say, as this is the first comprehensive review of one of my creations that I have ever received, to my knowledge.
I will respond to that with Vaarsuvius's line from this comic. I, who will continue to draw in classic OotS-style, draw inspiration from the Giant himself. This doubles as advice for all of you who want to draw in classic OotS-style.
Look at the Giant's work. Now back to yours. Now back to his. Now BACK to yours. Sadly, it isn't like his, but it can be, if you use your eyes and pay attention to detail. If the Giant has done something similar, look at it and figure out why yours doesn't look like his. All I've ever done was read Oots in its entirety, certain parts several times, and follow the Bible of Inkscape OotS making, Trazoi's guide. That's it. Well, there's more to it than that but everything else after that makes it your own style.
Now enough of that, back to August's wonderful commentary.
Yes, whenever I draw these, I try to imagine it as if it were an actual in-game scene, and that helps me plan how the comic will go. As I have stated before, I make this all up as I go. This really is for me a poor/unskilled man's video game. Luckily for me, I have a good memory, so that helps with designs.
It looked good when Roy did it here. It looked better in the 8th comic because Aria's sword was up. I guess in the 9th comic I didn't think to move after I had drawn in the action lines. So my fault for that, and I won't let it happen again. Either way, the reason for multiple slashes in one panel is to save space. This is part of what I have to consider while making this comic. Do I show the entire 3-hit combo or shorten it to fit something else into the next two panels? Also to consider is that the characters will be repeating these motions.
And gasp, the fanart! I love the 3-D ish emblem. And the creative liberties in creating your version of Aria. I see my sketch helped people then, and it looks like it may be her permanent design unless I come up with additions/subtractions. Can't wait for more, and this motivation for me to keep working on the next one. We finally get to meet the important looking soldier/knight. Commence speculations.
It's always their father, it's a cliché by now, so a cliché being played is now akin to it not being played on grounds of subversion, so yes, it's her father, probably with a red version of her sword.
Mytos, i cant see the picture
Speculative Fanart!
My take on how the knights looked when properly armoured.
Awesome, I want to do my own version of that as well. With a little less details however...
Oh no a need to double-post!
But it's a good thing. New comic is up.
WIth my limited JRPG knowledge, i feel i know whats going to happen.
Heh. Game over.
Boss fight time!
Woo!
Boss fight!
Poor ranked knight.
Everybody knows at least one early boss in a tales game is SUPPOSED to kill you :smalltongue:
Though I'm largely unaware of the Tales series transitions I believe the same system as Pokemon is being used whatnot with screen breaking and gradient raising.
Also, new comic is great, I'm really hoping for an epic showdown, and it's barely comic 10!
