"I can be quite worrisome sometimes, I know, and I would love to have you visit more often. Besides Sharon you are one of the few people who I am really close to."
[Angie's Clinic]
"Well, then, I'll have to do that, won't I?"
He nods, smiling, and reaches to give Angie's hand a squeeze.
"And really? I'd have thought a pretty woman like yourself would have lots of attention," he half-teases, although he's serious about the compliment.
[Angie's Clinic]
Angie shakes her head. "Oh I meet a lot of people sure. Either I work with them, or they work for me, and then there are the families who..."
She sighs not sure how to explain her story, she figures she will go with the abridged version of it.
"You remember how I have angel blood? Well after a series of events, and all the healing I have done, the few resurrections. Well people are calling me a saint, they have paintings of me in their church. It is sorta creepy, but they are all really nice people. It's just hard to get to close to someone who sees you like that."
[Angie's Clinic]
"...ahhh, I see. Yeah, that could make it...awkward," the ghost admits, nodding in understanding. "But I suppose it's better to be known as a saint than...otherwise. And I promise I won't be ordering any stained-glass windows of you anytime soon," he adds, seeking to make her smile.
[Angie's Clinic]
Well he gets his wish as she grins at him.
"Good if I heard you got converted I would have to track you down and beat some sense into you."
Angie hates having all friends with perma-deadtimed lovers/spouses, it makes it so awkward to bring up their love life, so she doesn't.
[Angie's Clinic]
Mission accomplished!
BR grins back, going to ruffle Angie's hair with a chuckle.
"I'm going to hold you to that, then."
And indeed it does, although he's not going to bring it up himself.
[Angie's Clinic]
Angie shakes her head, brushing her hair back into place.
"And I will hold you to visiting me more."
[Angie's Clinic]
"That's a deal."
And with that, more coffee is drunk.
Siiiiiiiiip.
[Angie's Clinic]
"Hey do you have any camping gear around, I am going on a trip with Sharon soon."
She finishes up her sandwich and assuming John is done she takes his plate to the sink to wash them off really quick and puts them away.
[Angie's Clinic]
He is indeed done, and leans back in his chair a bit, crossing his arms and looking thoughtful.
"Yeah, I do. How much do you need? Two whole sets, just the basics, just advanced stuff?"
[Angie's Clinic]
"I am not sure. I still haven't figured out exactly where we are going. I don't really have any gear, so we will probably need two full kits."
She tucks her plates away and offers John a warm up on his coffee.
[Angie's Clinic]
And he gratefully accepts.
"Well, then, two full kits. I can get those set up in a hurry for you. Send them here?"
[Angie's Clinic]
"Yeah that would be great. I still have to figure out where exactly we are going, so there isn't a huge rush. She suggested we go to some of the places my grandfather had gone adventuring. The only problem is figuring out where that was. I was still a little kid when he passed, he didn't tell me about stuff like that."
[Angie's Clinic]
"That sounds pretty awesome," John says, smiling encouragingly. "Hey, I could help you figure things out. If you wanted?"
[Angie's Clinic]
"Yeah? That would be great I have a few ideas as where to start but they are a bit of a stretch. One of my old trainers knew him, had adventured with him. But I haven't seen her since I was 13. Besides that I might be able to reach out to our old bosses."
Doesn't sound like she really looked forward to talking to her old bosses, who he also apparently worked for.
[Angie's Clinic]
"I get the feeling you're not too fond of the old bosses. Want me to come along?" he offers, reaching to put a hand on Angie's shoulder.
[Angie's Clinic]
"It would be more like stick around. I would try and summon up someone. I don't have a travel pass to and from heaven.
And I will admit I have been a bit sour to them after my last mission with them ended up with me stuck in hell."
John might remember the last time Angie reappeared in the Nexus she had just gotten out of Hell, and wasn't all that stable mentally. That was when she actually first started living at HALO.
[Angie's Clinic]
He nods, remembering indeed.
And tries to pull Angie into a hug, guessing that she's having memories of that right now, most likely.
"Yeah. That would kind of sour things."
[Angie's Clinic]
Those memories are never very far from Angie's thoughts. And while she isn't all that upset at the moment she is happy to have another hug.
"Though I will admit, they haven't been terrible to me. They are after all angels. They are the ones that got me the money. They set me up with a pretty sweet accountant who has been very helpful in setting up all sorts of deals. I wonder if he could get a hold of them."
She says thoughtfully.
[Angie's Clinic]
And John is happy to provide the hugs. So, it's all good!
"That sounds like a good plan, at least from what you've said. Somebody reliable who you can trust."
James raises an eyebrow. This one isn't the least bit subtle, is he?
"Whoa whoa whoa, now hold on. That's all very fine and dandy, Mr. Echo Ottersong, but how do I know you're not just my parole officer in a magic dress? He's been trying to pin everything from the apartment fires to the Magtok slaying on me to get my ass back in the Pen Company. Who's to say this isn't just a Remnant sting op?"
He shakes his head, and holds out a hand. It's palm-up, extended towards Ekke, as if waiting for something to be dropped into it.
"Like I told everyone else, I had nothing to do with that tenement fire. There's no proof I was anywhere near it, and even if I was, the only way I would ever tell you is if you made this case unprosecutable or something. Like say, paying me to tell you what you want to hear? Something around six gold, maybe? Can't take testimony that's there because of a bribe, can we?"
[Angie's Clinic]
"He is a bit strange but in a good way. I know how to summon him up, but I would prefer to do it in my office, I like this place to stay private, or at least mostly private."
[Angie's Clinic]
"Alright. Want me to stick around 'till after? I can head outside and be ready in case you holler or anything," BR offers.
"Oh, you're from GLoG too? I went there for a while. It's how I met Shri--" Splat! Syrup to the face. Tina uses a pair of fingers and wipes the stuff from her eyes. "I'm gonna get you for that one."
Gelley laughs in the face of darkness! Well, not literal laughter, that would be silly. She just sighs and switches on her visor's nightvision - hopefully the ghost is still visible when she uses it. "Can you just give it up already? I'm trying to make a good impression on my new boss here."
A spaceship - if the asteroid with thrusters attached could be called such - soars into view. Some giveaway metal components poke out, most notably the cockpit, but otherwise it's a featureless gray rock.
The other notable feature is the pair of twin-linked autocannons mounted on the ship's underbelly. The rotate, locking onto the Chrysalid that's currently straddling Gniewomir, and fire. A superheated metal slug zips through the air, and provided Gniewomir makes no sudden movement, he might find his assailant suddenly disintegrated in a flash of gore.
A ramp opens on the side of the ship, and standing on that ramp is the imposing alien called Teq Vraal. There's a tremendous rifle in his hands, nearly ten feet long, and he shoulders it to take aim at the nearest Chrysalid. His squad, meanwhile, ropes down onto the street, all of them dressed in hefty-looking body armor.
The Sitar's Strings
Zefir just stay's behind Ekkehard and listen to the boy. As he hold up his hand he tries to whisper to Ekkehard.
"I don't think he got what we asked him for."
[Angie's Clinic]
"If you want to stick around and meet him you can. He is an intellegent octopus."
She smiles and heads back into her small office.

[On The Way Home]
Calvin and Chairty leave Remnant and start to make their way towards Calvin's uncle's home. And with Calvin leading the way they will be taking a roundabout sort of path. Hoping on and off various train routes, crossing busy streets and circling around. Chairty might assume that Calvin is lost or still being affected by the drugs.
The truth is that Calvin is worried, this sort of attack came out of nowhere and hit him hard. He is much more used to dealing with physical threats not mental ones. So he is in full out paranoia mode, looking for tails or faces he has seen before but doesn't know who they are. All that sort of fun stuff. During the walk he is very quiet, distracted by his thoughts.
On the Way Home
"Hey, you okay? I think we've passed this street before." Charity asks.
On the Way Home
"Oh yeah. Sorry about that I was making sure no one was following us. I know it may seem a bit paranoid, but old habits and all that. We should be there soon."
Not to mention the fact that he had just had people try to take control of his brain.
On the Way Home
"I can't really blame you, after what happened," Charity says.
[On the way Home]
"Yeah I think my life is going to get a lot more complicated till this all gets sorted out. By complicated of course I mean dangerous."
He says as a way of warning her that hanging around him could get her hurt, or in trouble. He doesn't want her to leave him alone or anything, he just would feel guilty if he didn't say anything, then something happened.
