Shandara's spell accounts for a +2 circumstance bonus for now, but will grow to +5 with a bit of practice. Being able to see the crystal is a great boon. Not being able to really see the wood is something you need to get used to.
Well this inaugural effort is worth the use of my fantastical luck, I think. With the +8 from the luck, the +2 from the masterwork tools, the +2 from this novel magical aid...

@prehysterical, the adress you find for the Couriers is just outside of the city (half an hour on foot past the northern gate, following the main road). Do you want to arrange any transport, or will you just go by foot?
Bolten will call a carriage at that point and pay the fee.
@windstruck, @mrabdiel, the block of spiritwood was broken up in about 28 wand blanks of varyign potenccy depending on whether it got one fo the main veins as cores (8) or had to do with smaller branching veins of crystal (20)
@prehysterical, your carriage fare is either 1 gold piece, or 3 gold pieces if you have them wait for you and take you back
Oh that's interesting. I thought there might be some blanks with no crystal at all!

@windstruck, 45 gp total price for a wand with three charges of featherfal. Using one of the lesser wands you could make a wand with 25 charges of a first level spel essentially for free.
Edit: though it will require a check is working with the wood is more difficult than standard reagents.
Yeah, I think we might be done there. Aiden and Shandara have shared secrets and may now need time to digest and consider them; I laid out that rooftop dinner scene mostly because it was in my head, not staging any additional revelations or big points, so I'm happy to move on.Quote:

Wands are reusable, right?
Like you can put charges into them, expend them, then put more charges into them?
No. You could make a wand that naturally recharges (so a per day amount of castings, generally around 3), or a wand that depletes permanently and starts with up to 50 charges.Quote:

Okay, thanks. You think your initial quote is fairly accurate for the invisibility approach. Another way you could do it is to use a scrying sensor and illusion to project an image on the wood of the other side to fake transparency, but that would only get cheaper for larger surfaces (it scales better as a solution).
You think there might be a way to do it through transmutation that could be cheaper at large scales (high up-front cost to design a spell and likely a high-powered staff to cast it, but then repeatable), but you're not sure how well this would work and it would probably take weeks to months if research to design.

I had already made some far more appropriate rolls in the IC thread.
An obscure bit of knowledge regarding an ongoing series of experiments on botany within the society. You didn't roll high enough to recall. Otherwise you'd have had a better idea om the viability of the transmutation approach.Quote:
