Re: Favorite Spell Incantation.
Just use the Pledge of Allegiance for every single spell. Claim there's nuance in the inflection of each word that dictates which spell it is.

In the game Eternal Darkness (I think that's the title, at least), the magic is based on combining syllables to make different spells, linked in circles of 3, 5, 7 (guessing again; been a while). To cast the spell, the character recites the syllables. Seemed real cool for the game.
Since it has observable effects in-setting, I like the idea of "spell level" being the number of lines in the incantation. E.g. a 3rd-level spell is three sentences long, and metamagic adds extra lines. You might end up with something like...

It's one of those old folk-lorish spells from my homeland. It's supposed to be used in conjunction with tracing a triangle around your head every time you say "tre" to invoke the holy trinity, and protect you from trolls and other old evil.
It's mostly whispered under your breath, but speaking it out loud sounds better. You should use it for a protection spell or something.

Or as a protection spell against the entity summoned thusly:

Please just don't do the full Eternal Darkness method. The idea is awesome, but moving beyond Verb Noun Element is dull in-game. They just ham the word Power in there as often as possible.

Eternal Darkness limited it by how many points in your spell-circle you could generate.

It would work well with "casting time" rules. More words make more powerful spells, but also take longer to incant.

There was an old Star Trek episode where a cult used the pledge of allegiance as a prayer

So "Azurath metrion zinthos" isn't popular at anyone else's table?
I annoyed a friend by using Dragon shouts from Skyrim for a while. I have a good memory, and when you hear them over and over...
I've used incantations from Final Fantasy Tactics sometimes too

Ultima, good stuff :smallcool:
As for me - The kuji'in are probably my favorite - both the hand movements, and the words that go with them:
"Rin, Pyou, Tou, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, Zen!"

Oh, man. Even now the words "Kal Vas Flam" make me flinch and want to run behind some cover.

Re: Favorite Spell Incantation.
So much win in this thread. Also note that there are now TWO Angela Lansbury connected references here.
I've got one player that likes to add a little poetry to his castings - playing online, it ends up in chat (thankfully) That fell by the wayside as it became too time involved.
For the Goblin bard (which I very much had a hand in making), every spell has an associated song. Invisibility is the James Bond Themesong, and Shatter uses a bit of Rolling Stones (shadoobie). The exception is Stinking Cloud, which has its own unique mechanism.
He has a magic sword with two activation phrases: "Moon Tiara Magic!" (for Guiding Bolt) and "It's Showtime!" (for Moonbeam). The sword's magic doesn't require these, the sword just makes him do it before it'll activate.
Intelligent weapons are fun.

To each his own, I guess.
