Kurt's getting sick of the yelling, it's making his ears ring in his helmet. "Shiny, do we kill him, track him, or let him go?!"
"Do we indeed..." muses Shiny, having apparently lost interest.
"...How stupid?" Natalia asks in disbelief.
"Actually, he was quite sharp for an ogre." Shiny says sincerely. "I was teaching him to speak gnome- he just got confused when we reached the conjugation of the pluperfect tense."
Miriam looks angrily at Shiny "It does not know ANYTHING? Then let's stop it from hurting more innocent people. I will not have it survived thanks to St. Cuthbert and hurt good people. Who will do the honor?"
She raises her mace giving a last chance for Shiny to save him "He speaks, he lives".
Mithril averted her eyes from the scene. This ogre may not be willing to help but Miriam's response scared her.
For Miriam's sake, Shiny tries one more time. <Giant>"Have you seen a captive human-"</Giant> he then repeats the description Miriam gave earlier.
Ogre
<Giant>"I've seen hots of Umans, some like that, but they all look the same kind of. If he's there, he's with the rest." The Ogre doesn't seem to understand why you'd be so concerned with a particular human.
Natalia quickly steps in front of Miriam. "Thought you...didn't want your hands...Now you do?"
Shiny shrugs. "Doesn't know anything useful."
Miriam's frustration grows 'Does it know if they have prisoners? Where would they keep them? I want to know if he is alive or not.'
She looks towards Natalia. 'The ogre brings chaos and evil which St. Cuthbert does not stand for. I should finish him'
However the tone is her voice is very unsure.
Natalia shakes her head. "Don't force, can't force, never force. Evil, but helpless, an idiot. Kill a helpless idiot, even...even if disgusting? More Valen than Miriam, more...fighter than healer." The words are heavy at the end, as if collecting her thoughts is a physical exertion.
Miriam shakes her head in anger. 'If it is useless about providing us information, them let's give it to the soldiers' justice. After all, it is theirs and their loved one lives threatened by the ogres attack.'
She drops her mace and goes back to lean on a tree but does not shut down. Instead she seems hyper alert.
"Not to the soldiers justice, but we should ask the Lieutenant if he wants to perform the execution. He may want to question the ogre on his own." Mithril looked at the ogre, staying a good distance away from the large creature.
Natalia sighs. "But not...Not for a present," she says.
Miriam takes a deep breath and adds 'If I need to be the one carrying St. Cuthbert's justice, I will do it."
She looks at the others as she says that, her face showing signs of high level stress.
Again, Natalia places herself between Miriam and the ogre. "Smash him, smash yourself."
With a heavy heart and a weak voice, Miriam replies to Natalia: 'If not me, then whom? It has to be done."
Her hand is starting to shake a little.
Ogre
Seeing the chance, the Ogre begins an attempt to run after being temporarily bolstered by a bit of healing he ends up turning and falling flat on his face, nearly falling on Kurt. The strenuous effort bursting his words open again as he starts to bleed out again.
SpoilerNow losing HP again, may just die on his own.
Looking down at the dying ogre, Natalia says, "Leave him?"
Miriam grabs her own face, bites her finger and walks away. 'St. Cuthbert has spoken. Let him die."
The hyper-awareness has disappeared and she seemed to be going back to her reflective state.
Natalia follows Miriam. "Why the anger...rage? What...What opened infection, deep inside?"
Valen speaks up, "We may want to wait for the Soldiers, gain some assurance or proof or our deeds."
"Live for half an hour?" Natalia says, skeptical.
Kurt takes the initiative and proceeds to separate the final Ogre head from its shoulders. By the time the soldiers are nearing all of the heads have been stacked on a gruesome pile.
All 12 men approach, ony the Sergeant is mounted. Though, even such a small group they are till impressive especially when compared to the militia they are relieving.
Hearing the soldiers, Natalia turns and gives them a small wave. She doesn't really like the look of the scene, and kind of hopes the lieutenant will tell them to bury the bodies or something.
Shiny steps out towards the oncoming soldiers. "Greetings again. As you can see, we ran into some ogre trouble, but it was nothing we couldn't handle." He seems to have caught himself on the verge of giving one of his usual dubious introductions.
Kurt nods at the soldiers as they approach, just as he's settling the last head onto the pile. "I think they were waiting for us...or you."
Miriam stands there, watching, thinking. The current scene is blurry for her as the adrenaline is leaving her blood stream and she is facing the reality that St. Cuthbert gave her a sign. Unless it was a feverish sign from her mind.
She thinks about her past with Calric and all the kind moments are now tasting foul because she imagines young Mary going through them as well as multiples young naive farm girls and Calric coercing into giving him everything he wanted.
She wants to scream, she wants to cry but all she does is stare. Each passing moment increases the impact of her realization that her life was a lie and a scam.
Her Holy Symbol feels heavy around her neck, knowning that Calric carried a similar one. Yet at the same time she senses St. Cuthbert presence flowing through it.
Natalia's been waving her hand in front of Miriam's face after the lack of a response. Again, the rogue is beginning to get concerned once more about magical compulsions.
