I believe the joke is that starting in an inn or tavern is so cliché it makes the readers groan loud enough to be heard in the comic itself.
But I'm not sure, I never really noticed any tendency for JRPGs to begin in taverns. ^_^'

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
For some reason I expected the lands to be infested by halflings, or possibly ruled by them. :smallwink:

I guess I was going for a subvert/lampshade combo?
And why halflings? I don't recall handing out rings in the first comic.

JRPG's start either in small farming villages or with a character sneaking into a place he's not supposed to be.

Why not copying from LotR now you´re at it? :smalltongue:

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
I can forsee problems in trying to make the story seem both JRPGish and parody-ic at the same time. I'll need to decide which parts to keep and what to make fun of.
Cause I planned this with more story and less comedy, but with comedy on the side.

Belcas-tia. A long-shot yes, but it was the first panel so I didn't know what to expect! :smalltongue:

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Good stuff, VERY like Burlew's work, you even kept the panel widths etc.
I'll be back!

Actually panel heights. Widths change to fit the need of the action.
Yeah, I wanted this to seem like an actual comic, so I had to draw inspiration from the actual comic that this site is partially known for.

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
What I meant was the width of the dividing lines. A bunch of people have little or no lines there, but you kept it niiiice and thick, just like Burlew.

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Update. Now with dialogue!
More banners to come.

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic

Actually I forgot about him until now, and he had no inspiration toward the design of the bartender.
As for the whispering guys, well, the cliche is to say wait and find out.

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
The art is great! And the story seems very promising, I'll be back for more

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
I pronounce this comic 'awesome'.
And will watch it.

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic

I think she but it's jrpg based, not sure why it matters what she/he looks like

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
I'm pretty sure mammaries means female, but I'm a Kobold so...
Kobo Kobo.
Anyway, Looks interesting so far, although the repeat of the King's name is a bit odd, but that may just be me.

I assumed he couldn't see the boobs.
He DID say 'cant realy see it.'

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
I like where this is going. :smallamused:
What's up with the blond guy in panel 1?
-
Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Yeah it's a girl. You can't really see it because all she did was take off her hood, but obviously if this were a real JRPG you would either have voice acting or a fully drawn face with which you could interpret as female.
As for the blond guy, he was leaning casually on the wall in the second comic. This time he is supposed to be surprised at the blacksmith. No pun intended.
Give me more feedback/criticisms guys. You won't hurt my feelings. :smalltongue:

Then you feel uncomfortable hearing "My name is Bond. James Bond." ?:smallamused:

Nope, but if you said "Hello Bond, James Bond" I would find it an odd way to adress him.
Now if you adressed him as "Almighty pant-maker of the Universe, James Bond" it would be hilarious.

I think it sounds... normal i guess.

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Then imagine a dramatic pause. Or should have I bolded King?
-
Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Don't fall down the hole of random bolding. :smallsigh:
That being said, i find that sentence acceptable. It straight up establishes that the main character knows who she's talking to and wants him to know it as well.

Nah, as Domo said that would just look silly.
I am positive it is just me being the silly reptile that I usually am. ^_^'

You mean the Riddly reptile that you are.
I assume you are a kobold in a Riddler suit.
