Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Science, magic, robots, elves, headpigeons, what could go wrong???
Gunnerkrigg Court is an awesome comic and you should read it!
Now spoilers.
I'm wondering if Zimmy's condition is somehow related to Annie's... Maybe Zimmy is what happens when Annie tries to have a child and not die herself?
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Zimmy is Annie's time-traveling daughter? :smalltongue:
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
That is exactly what I'm saying!
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Wait... why does Zimmy have a spirit scar on her cheek now?

Probably the same reason she 1) has red highlights in her astral form and 2) was unwilling to help Annie at first. (Technically that second link would work for both, but there you are).
My guess is psychic cross-contamination, probably from the incident with Jack and the power station.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
To me it looks like Zimmy suffers from the same thing that Annie's dad got: some sort of spirit split. (Double Anthony)
Anthony shouldn't have tried to mess with Spirit-Splitting technology. If this trend continues soon everybody will be immobilized and split into 2.
Not-Jacktrying to butt in is just the icing on the cake. Though, spiders are good with weaving things together with their webs. Maybe they can help Zimmy. Supposedly they really love her.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Spirit-splitting technology? Makes sense given Surma's condition, but where was that mentioned in the comic?

Just inferred from the fact that both Zimmy and Anthony split into two after coming in contact with this thing and from Anthony long standing promise that he will find a cure to his wife's 'illness'
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
That was probably the creepiest thing I've seen in this comic.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
WHOA! This looks bad. Gamma, get in there. Quick. :smalleek:
I'm sure someday all this will make sense...
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Because its obvious:
INCEPTION!
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Looks like she was ejected from her body...

If you're talking about Friday's update, there was some talk on the GKC forum that it represented some part of Annie's psyche that rode along to give dad a punch in the face.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I forget. Do the nobodies actually hurt Zimmy? Or do they just try to convince her to stick around in crazyland?
Also, Kat can't see the new Zimmy. Could Gamma?
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Hm, our Zimmy is probably going to turn out to be another entity which thinks it's Zimmy, isn't it. :smalltongue:
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Yep, actually it's Jack, who thinks he is Zimmy. Who is actually Antimony's half sister, and Surma's other daughter by Eglamore.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
it's annie's dad, who just got finished getting his spiritual face mashed in and is returning the favor.
When I'm wrong wow am I ever wrong...
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I understand everything in this chapter PERFECTLY, there is not the SLIGHTEST confusion in my mind, and I have no concerns about what is going on.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Wait, she has a million boyfriends? When did this comic turn into Teen Girl Squad? Can't you totally imagine Cheerleader or the Ugly One saying that:
"I have a MILLION Boyfriends!"
BOYFRIEND'D
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
This comic would make for a great episode of teen girl squad.

Every comic should be written by Strong Bad.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
This chapter has been rather unsettling...
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Given the most recent update, Wednesday might actually answer some Zimmy questions. Or just feature her shouting something rude and running off.
Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets.

It's Tom Siddell, it's going to be a Wednesday link comic for this particular arc... I've quit making bets. :smalltongue:
Thus it goes:-
Monday: Mind Screw. Wednesday: Wha-- Oh? Friday: Fine -- Maybe?
Repeat.
Still loving it, though.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Oh dear, I think we're going to get a glimpse of the world via ZimmyVision. This could be BAD. :smalleek:
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Have we ever seen Zimmy scared before? Whatever Kat looks like right now in Zimmingham, I don't want to see it. Also, Gamma to the rescue, yay!
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I think the only time I ever really understand what's going in this comic lately is during a brief, fleeting moment sometime Wednesday mornings. The rest of the time I just throw my hands up in wonder.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I'm guessing that to Zimmy Kat looks like an unbearably bright, shining angel.
Because Zimmy is actually a robot. :smalltongue:

And first thing angels say is "fear not", so they must be extremely scary.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
If that's an angel I'd hate to see a demon.
That thing's chilling in a way I can't quite describe. No wonder Zimmy looks so terrified.
And why is the face cracked?
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
... Eh?
I guess that's a bird demon robot person? I dunno why Kat would look like that?
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Hm, I think it makes some sense that Kat looks like an abomination to Zimmy. After all Zimmy is very strongly connected to the ether and Kat is pretty much the antithesis of etheric... The more interesting question is: Why all of a sudden? What has changed about Kat that she looks like that now but didn't before?
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
HOLY! FREAKING! ...
There aren't words enough for this.
Run away. :smalleek:

Yes there are:-
Giger. Somebody's been doing an Alien binge, haven't they? :smalltongue:

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
In Abrahamic religious texts, angels are generally described as horrific eldritch abominations. There's a reason they say "Fear not" a lot.
So yeah, that's Kat the Robot Angel.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Whoa.
That's...what...are there things coming out of her eyes? A robot angel?
My theory is that when Zimmy does her thing, she becomes more aware of the etheric world for a short time after. That's why she only noticed Kat's etheric form after getting thrown by Annie.
If so, would Annie see it too?
-

:smallconfused: Not sure about that. The way I remember it the angels who visited Abraham looked like ordinary men. But then, given your current location, you may know better. :smallwink:
Nevermind. Kat is her own kind of angel.

Thought those ones were disguised, and they generally aren't.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
An Angel of SCIENCE!
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I wonder if that's how the robots of the court see her.
Kat's angel wouldn't look out of place on Phyrexia.

I always thought that was just the highest sphere, which is pretty capital-W Weird. The ones that are sent to talk to humans are usually from the lowest orders, angels and occasionally archangels, which are fairly human-like. For like reason, I always thought that the "be not afraid" tended to be more because in the Old Testament, when they needed to send an angel descending in celestial chorus to bear the Word of God directly to humanity, cities and people tended to end up getting verily smote with extreme prejudice. It's not like there were even all that many, but it tends to stick in people's memories.
Not that it contradicts the idea of this being Robot Angel Kat, of course.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Well I have this theory that Kat's parents are actually ghosts or backups of themselves that they made before they died in that etheric computer thing they use. Today's comic gave rise to a consequential supporting theorem. I now speculate that Kat is not a person but essential an etheric programming construct. Hence in etheria she simply appears to be a lot of metal and wires bound together in a vaguely humanoid form. The robots could still see her as godly as she is essentially a robot in the ether.

Everyone always freaks out when Ketrak stops in to say hi. I'm sure he's quite friendly.

I suspect Kat has been dozing besides Annie's hospital bed. That Zimmy stepped into her and Annie's dreamscapes, set everything aright, and now is fleeing Kat, too terrified to stick around anymore. But not before uttering some wisdom that may have profound consequences.
It makes you wonder if it was fear of Kat that kept Zimmy from immediately trying to help Annie, or if she just didn't want to get involved and Gamma pointed out to her, she had to, no one else could do it.

Gamma took away Kat's hairband of +5 straightness. :smalltongue: Zimmy's comment has meaning for both of them.

Bow chica bow wow.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
So Kat looks like that all the time to Zimmy? Seems to explain her attitude towards Kat all this while.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
@^: Funnily enough Kat appears to have no nose in that visage.

Some shoppers turned it into a Death Metal album cover.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Yay, Annie's awake!
Yay, Kat's awake!
Yay, the headband is gone!
That's about it.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Awww, a not-awkward hug! Maybe she will realize Annie's not going to judge her.
Also, Annie seems really cheerful. It's been a long time since we saw her smile like that. I wonder if she's feeling better than she has in a while because the bone spears are gone?
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
You don't often see her give a full tooth smile.
Usually it's that quiet little Mona Lisa grin.
Still, I am not sure if she is necessarily cheerful in that last panel.

In the last panel, no. But you'll notice everything else she says ends in an exclamation point! And she's smiling! She looks happy to me!

Oh yes, she is happy to see Kat and all, but the last one, besides looking like Tom Baker, makes me think someone who is giddy, but a little rattled as well.
I'm sorry, apeling emotions aren't my strong point.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Off the current topic, but I've been rereading the archive and I can't believe it took me so long to realize why the laser cows don't tend to Sir Young's monument in the Park. D'oh

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
It also sorta explains why the cow was hostile to Elgamore, if Elgamore inherited Young's position at the school. Or those cows are just jerks.
