Ask her about her parents
Let's fall back just a bit for now. We can do the adventure later, after planning from the start; for this one, let's talk about her parents.
... I'm half tempted to take the game way back and train lotsa herbs and running just to know how where dancing of all things fits in this.
or we could train up up conversation instead of lore and dissuade her at the party, I guess.
So, I might have purchased and done 1.75 run-throughs of this game tonight because of this LP. It's so addicting, it's really hard to remember to save in between activities
question for those who have played through the whole thing:

What skills should I focus on first to avoid the civil war? It seems like the first 20 weeks' demands are all over the place, but the back 20 is almost all military/lumen
Tons of information under here, so be careful you don't spoil yourself anyway!
SpoilerCivil war is mostly based on your choices. Resolving the Ixionite situation to lord Smugington's satisfaction is a good start, and having good conversation skills at the ball is also an easy boost. Setting your agents to watch for noble plots can stop civil war, but makes it much harder to achieve naval victory. The biggest point I know where you can affect things is the issue with young Lord Adair. Sending him to his grandfather's will really annoy Arisse, and likely trigger civil war. Sending him to her is actually a good option for avoiding civil war, but if you've already upset her too much it will make the war harder to win. If you train up divination enough for the owl omen you can get an extra choice that has no downsides, and also helps net you a checklist item.
You're telling me she couldn't seen the tentacle's source? Or, you know, aim for any spot that isn't on Briony? Or, for that matter, just blasting the tree itself?
No, it still feels like a Too Stupid to Live moment, because there's no real excuse for her to run over there instead of using magic in a creative manner.
Spoiler
I've never sent Adair to Arisse, but I've heard this is also part of what can trigger a civil war. Sending him to Elodie's Uncle is a safe bet. As for an easy resolution... I've heard Briony here makes an excellent political hostage.
Oddly enough, I've never triggered a civil war.

Well Said, Briony!
Spoiler
Well, for the time being, it looks like we're taking the easy way out and asking about her parents. Perhaps you will be finished another way, another day, adventure.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/20.png
Wait, honey, you know this. We just discussed this last update. Her family's messed up. Oh, well.
"Nothing."
So apparently Briony's deep dark secret is regular old angst. Who knew?
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/21.png
Awww, poor Briony...Being relegated to the backseat because of her incredibly vengeful jerkass uncle.
"I'm an adult now, you know!"
Of course, dear.
(Technically. She's sixteen.)
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/22.png
Yeah, given the incredible lack in Elodie's education, I'm inclined to agree with her on how much that sucks.
"When did your uncle move in?"
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/23.png
Wait, wasn't that when....
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/24.png
Yeah, that.
So she means after the part where his ex-step-dad was killed, probably by agents of his mother, right?
Good lord, Briony, but your family's messed up. Doesn't Kevan have someplace of his own to go? He's an earl!
(Most people think that was no great loss, because there were all sorts of horrible rumors about Jael.)
Oh, yeah, like how he assaulted that one lady who's dead now.
See? Our total knowledge of local intrigue is...Well, It's probably useful-ish.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/25.png
Kevan's...Well, you know what? I'll save my commentary for Kevan for a few weeks from now.
I've been holding it in this whole game.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/26.png
Yup. Murder is sure stressful.
"Yeah, I'm sure, but so what? That was years ago! They've had plenty of time to get over it!"
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/27.png
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/28.png
Yeah, Elodie's got a point there. I mean, really, you sort of ran off without telling anyone anyway -- will that be more noticable if you get treasure?
"You mean...it's hopeless???"
Watch the punctuation, lady.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/29.png
In other words, don't go off and die! Come chill with us!
"Oh. I guess maybe you're right."
And suddenly, Briony, I love you.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/31.png
Elodie is less pleased.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2036/32.png
And here we are, having put off Briony's teenage angst and death-wish!
What shall we do with our shiny new not-being-dead?
What are our skills again?
Well I think we should get back to the basics of learning how to ride a horse by being depressed.
If we can't become depressed then I think we should train swords and wield magic.
Our skills, and also showing we can get to Depressed by visiting the tomb.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...ssionHurts.png
Okay, let's get Depressed and go with Horses and Dogs.
I vote for lots of Ciphering. But with how good our Intrigue stats are, we could probably be racking that up in any mood.
I think we should work Foreign Intelligence and possibly some of our Lumen(Resist Magic) or Weapons(Swords). Things have been quiet on the foreign front for too long, and as Bat-Magic Princess, it won't do to be vulnerable to magical assault. To that end, we should be Willful or Angry.
Let's play with aaaall the preeeetty little poooonies~
Max out Lumen powah!
And then start shifting to Anger to work on Swords and Military.
Depressed, horses and dogs.
I also want to add that Elodie's scrunched-up pressured face is the cutest thing. I can practically hear the mou! of exasperation from the Japanese version. Incidentally, was there a Japanese version? If not, I will be severely confused.
Nope, no Japanese version. Made by this girl using the Ren'Py engine if I'm not mistaken.
Regardless of what we're doing this week, let's put on the catsuit.
Because...just because.
For you, Mirrinus, anything.

...Nah, doesn't work. Sorry, I'll try again.

Ooh! The hunting outfit!
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...apt%2037/4.png
D'awww! We've got a puppy! We've got our own puppy, and though he'll probably never show up in this playthrough, I will be taking votes for its name.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...apt%2037/5.png
Hey, Briony's mom!
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...apt%2037/6.png
Ok, so her brother was the guy who killed himself. I wasn't entirely clear on that before, since Intrigue doesn't bother to use things like proper names.
"Which daughter?"
...Elodie, you need to work on your lies. Where's the skill for 'lying like crazy'?
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...apt%2037/7.png
As a side note, since this is the last we'll see of her, there's no reason for us to give her a font.
So it's screenshots all the way!
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...apt%2037/8.png
Oooh, burn...? That was kind of weak. It needs a 'you think' in there or something.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...apt%2037/9.png
Awww, she does care.
"Oh, now you care? You certainly didn't want to see me before! You haven't let me come home in ages!"
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2037/10.png
You got that right. I'm not sure I understand them...Or want to.
"I don't understand because you never tell me anything!"
The duchess sighs and embraves her daughter.

Goodbye, Briony!
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...pt%2037/12.png
Elodie will hold onto your innocence for you, since you're not getting it back.

Anyway, it's time for another weekend!
The puppy is anAustralianNovan Shepherd and his name is Commander Shepard. This is non-negotiable.
Agreed with the Puppies name.
Also, let's play with our toys, reducing our Willful, Pressured, and Depressed meters. Then up our flexibility and reflexes.
In the future, we can get angry, and then do weapons.
I agree that we should play with toys, but I vote Dogs and Voice for our Classes. I want to unlock the Toga.
Don't worry, depressed title person! I still care about you, and I vote for "George" as well!
I vote for Commander Shepherd! (and not just because I'm trying to beat Mass Effect 3 this weekend.)
In classes lets do dogs and swords. After we play with our toys.
George, horses & Dogs

Creepiest Checklist Item?

So we play with our toys. But I wasn't sure what to do with our classes... Ideally, I'd sway the tie for second class for swords. But here...Here I'm not sure. So I'll do Horses, since there's still some utility.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...apt%2038/2.png
Oh, here's our hunting outfit. I'll be in catsuit, for a reason.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...apt%2038/3.png
Utility! We can hunt! Hunting actually does a lot of things to our mood, some of which are pretty interesting.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...apt%2038/4.png
And we train Commander Shephard, the Novan Shepherd.

(Her father keeps alternating between wanting a divorce and being afraid of losing his home.)
There's an extra section at the end of the letter written in code.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...038/Creepy.png
...I'm pretty sure I shouldn't touch this, if I'm reading it correctly. Maybe I'm not?
Hopefully?
Oh, but I will talk about Kevan, who's apparently just a creepy, creepy guy.
In addition to this load of creepiness, he's just sort of a rage-y guy. He hates his mom, but if we get her killed, he'll try and kill us. We don't know his feelings about Briony, but if she dies, he'll try and kill us.
Come to that, he wanted that would-be poisoner killed, too. Part of me wonders if he doesn't just like vengence. Vengence and family members.
For the record, 49% of the deaths in my very first playthrough were Kevan-based, so I hold a grudge.
We haven't met the source of the other 49%...Yet. It's coming, and is what I consider "The Final Boss." It's looming pretty close...
Oh, yeah. And we dinged a checklist item there: "Discovered a Terrible Family Secret." I think that one'd be more interesting if it were about our family.
(No wonder she was trying to hide it. Well, I hope she'll be happier now.)
Happy with the knowledge her family is a bag of murder and incest.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...apt%2038/8.png
Hunting! We could almost get to angry in two weeks with this or Sports (dropping into Depressed or Willful, respectively), if we want to train some weaponry.
It should get us to Angry in a single week...But it doesn't. For some reason. *shrug*
By the way, if we want to do weaponry, since I think some people are thinking about that, the most efficient way would be to do Archery and Polearms while we're not angry, and then another round while angry, and then swords, since I think Swords is everyone's favorite weapon.
If we want to do something else, I have no particular ideas for that, since I've sort of been messing around in this file in specific ways, based on where I sense the mood of the thread going.
http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/z...apt%2038/9.png
Oh, yeah...Does anyone remember exactly when a certain event that isn't going to occur would happen? I know it's either this week or in the next week or two, but I'd like to give it a mention...
