Re: Upcoming TABLE Code Changes
Is there a code to re-color a single row? It would be great if there was and we could use it to make headers. It would be excellent if we could apply it to every other row to at least mimic the old look.
Also, the undo function seems to take me back to the last auto-save, or at least a lot further back than whatever I'd typed in immediately prior to pressing Ctrl + Z.

Regular bbcode should work within cells. Use the standard align codes.
There is currently no coding for changing the color of tables, and if there will be, it will be sometime in the later (not immediate) future.

Re: Upcoming TABLE Code Changes
Proof of concept
[highlight=yellow]a[/highlight] |
[highlight=yellow]b[/highlight] |
c |
d |
First row is [highlight=yellow]highlighted[/highlight] cell by cell inside the td tags, second surrounds the tr tag block with highlight tags.

First row is [highlight=yellow]highlighted[/highlight] cell by cell inside the td tags, second surrounds the tr tag block with highlight tags.
A more intuitive way to do this would be to make a "highlight" class that can be applied to the table, much like Grid works now. Someone earlier in the thread already showed that you can apply a class to individual cells (ie set TD class=outerborder, while the rest of the table has class=grid, to get a single cell without borders). So apply that same logic in implementing the highlights, except use it on the table rows. So instead of [tr], you'd have [tr=highlight:{color}].
The ideal way for simplicity would be to simply make a table class that gives [th] cells the dark brown coloring, and [tr] rows gaining css property nth-child(even), using that selector to highlight half the rows with the lighter brown color. Then just call that whole package "class: traditional", the former way is more complicated for a user to implement but allows more customization overall.

Re: Upcoming TABLE Code Changes
I see what I was about to post about is already being discussed. Please please please put in classes for tables because the one in there right now is really hard on the eyes.
-
Re: Upcoming TABLE Code Changes
Could someone take me through a quick step by step of how to make it because I'm still not quite sure on how it works.
-
Re: Upcoming TABLE Code Changes
First, click the WYSIWYG Mode button, top left corner of post format buttons.
Then add a table, using the Table button under the bold B.
Then modify the table as if you were using MS Word or Open Office.

I'd like to put in a "second" for this feature. It makes things like the X stat to Y bonus much more useful.

A suggestion for this one: just swap the way the headers and cells look; the header should have the bolder lines.

Re: Upcoming TABLE Code Changes
Just testing, don't mind me

Re: Upcoming TABLE Code Changes
Question: is it allowed to copy/paste tables directly from excel documents? It seems to copy/paste them perfectly, along with things like text background, merged cells and other functions the forum tables do not seem to have. (Edit: by have I meant "does not appear on the WYSIWYG toolbar", as obviously the forum has capabilities to do these things by sheer virtue of them working.)
Example:

Column 2 |

Interesting, don't think I tried that exact way of using colspan manually. Must give this a shot....
It works! Thank you!

I just copied it from an excel document I had on my hard drive, so I have no idea what commands are involved in it.

Re: Upcoming TABLE Code Changes
Seems you can also apply a bgcolor to the whole row. That makes it much more character-efficient.

Sweet. I expected the community to develop some improvements as they played around with it, but this is better than expected.

Re: Upcoming TABLE Code Changes
Sweet, so we can modify properties manually, and only need special classes from Rawhide to make it automatic?
No longer have complaints with the new tables. Except that I need to go edit a bunch of them again now. If we could get sortable tables back that'd be perfect, but can't always get everything.

You could always try something on the client-side. Here's a "retro" Greasemonkey script I wrote earlier; comment out whatever parts you don't want.

And when new classes are added, it will no longer be necessary to do all that work.

Re: Upcoming TABLE Code Changes
So with all that (undocumented?) awesome table stuff, I pondered with the idea to make a Table Primer, with the intent to cover all things that are possible with the new table code.
I kinda wanted to start a new thread for that, and wanted to ask whether it would be a better fit here in the Board/Site Issues or the shiny new Mad Science and Grumpy Technology. (And to ask if it is fine to do so, or if you think it would be better to just use some posts in this thread)
Because honestly I think the new table features some cool new stuff, and I wouldn't want part of the function getting lost.
