Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
Did they get caught in the castle explosion?
-
Re: Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
Probably.
Failing that, they must have fled the dungeon (barring the one who was actually in the throne room and horribly injured from the fall, who is pretty certain to be dead).

Re: Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
Redcloak and Xykon had time to leisurely walk out of the Dungeon. If they were paying attention, most of the minions should have escaped easily.

I don't know, every other monster in the throne room was already dead. I don't think any of the occupants of the Dungeon could have passed through the room to get to the escape tunnel without the Order noticing. Besides, how would they have known that the self-destruct lever had been pulled?

That's easy! Any self-respecting automated destruction system sounds an evacuation alarm and gives an audible count-down.

Re: Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
Some of them may no longer be teenagers (of those who lived, if any). :smallamused:

Redcloak and Xykon had the advantage of knowing where the secret tunnel from the lowest dungeon level to the outside was. The normal goblin mooks? They'd have had to work their way all the way up the dungeon, out of the castle at the top, and then get clear--and why would they have done that when they didn't know the place was about to go boom anyway?

Re: Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
They grew up and took on responsibilities as we all must do.
That or they now solve mysteries in a van.

Re: Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
I wonder if Elan got any xp for defeating them, then? Or would it not count?
-
Re: Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
I wonder if that will end up as a blemish on Elan's record when he gets to the afterlife?

If anybody did, I'd say it was Dorukan....

If Elan was shooting for the Lawful Good afterlife, it might. I'm fairly certain, however, that in the CG afterlife, you can plead Not Guilty by Virtue of Two Wrongs Make a Right.
-
Re: Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
Actually, I would imagine that in the CG afterlives, they wouldn't care about such petty technicalities. They would only care about the fact that Elan had caused the deaths of those young goblins. And they probably wouldn't be happy that Elan has never stopped to think about it.
Then again, with all the good Elan has done (or at least tried to do; he's not the most competent person ever), I can't imagine it would keep him out of his desired afterlife.

Elan did not defeat them. Elan never fought them.
If XP was for "killing," rather than overcoming challenges, he might get XP...but it isn't.

Re: Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
Remember that it was Dorukan that set up the system. He had rather more concern for his employees than Xykon does. I therefore think that emergency exits opened up all over the castle and an evacuation alarm sounded.
We know that the flumphs escaped, anyway. And a medusa from the castle was later seen on Teevo. (At least it looks like the same one)
So I guess the teenagers escaped.

Huh. I hadn't thought of that. Still kind of a risky move, though.

That still doesn't mean the goblins escaped--we know from Celia that employees were able to summon "employee exits", but the goblins wouldn't have been able to do that. As for the flumphs, they presumably started making their way out of the dungeon as soon as the spells holding them in their pen were broken, which was days before the Order reached the lowest levels and blew the place up.

The Order of the Stick didn't hear any alarms going off, and they were at Ground Zero when the destruct was triggered.

Re: Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
Goblins in Pathfinder are adult at age 5 and live to be about 50. Most have violent deaths before 20. Its not good to be a Goblin.

Well, you wouldn't need any down there, would ya? You'd already know if you pulled the lever or not! It's everybody ELSE that needs to be alerted to the impending destruction.

Surely Dorukan would assume that any of his own employees would have already been killed by the time the self-destruct sigil was used anyway? It's right at the bottom level of the dungeon and you have to traverse the entire thing to reach it!

There are always scry-and-die tactics, though.

Not in a cloistered area, which Dorukan's dungeon was.
-
Re: Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
They are most likely dead.

And yet, Xykon seized the Gate without disturbing any of the sigil guardians.
Besides which, the Order alluded to there being a lot more of dungeon to explore when Elan declared that of course they were going to set off the self-destruct rune before leaving.
-
Re: Whatever happened to the teenage Goblins?
I think the bottom line is that Dorukan installed the rune as a last-ditch effort for when there's no other way of preventing the forces of Evil from seizing the Gate and didn't account for someone being as dumb as Elan and pressing it for no reason.

Yes, you'd need it down there. Unless everyone watches over everyone else's shoulders all the time, one person triggering a self-destruct might not automatically be noticed by everyone else. And considering the AoE nature of many magic spells, what reason would there be to exclude an area anyway?
