Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
The first single will be One More Time, released on April 6th, digital only.
Let's see if this is good, then. I've got high hopes about it.
2011 is shaping up to be a nice year. I hope it lives up to the expectations. :smallcool:

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith

New Dornenreich, Burzum, Turisas, Opeth, Fen, The Axis of Perdition, Primordial, Devin Townsend, Ulver, and likely the debut release from that Steven Wilson/Mikael Akerfeldt collaboration.
Yep, 2011's not lookin' too bad at all.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
So it looks like the new alestorm album is going to totally kick ass if the song "Shipwrecked" is any measure of the awesomeness of the album as a whole. Plus the album art is hilariously epic and they're doing a cover of "You Are A Pirate" which is squee inducing :smalltongue:
Also have any of you folk heard of Before the Dawn? My guitarist introduced me to them recently and I've been really digging them.

I'd rather see them do a cover of "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything", but I don't doubt that we'll see that on a future release.

that would be brilliant
it should be like a law that you HAVE to cover that song

I'm really gonna try and see Alestorm when they hit Texas this year. Shipwrecked is awesome and I badly want to see a band where, you know, I know all of the songs and can sing along to the "sing along" parts (which is basically every alestorm song. :smalltongue:). Alestorm is just one of those bands that, even though they really don't strike me as very good, strike me as a band that would hunt me down and kill me if I didn't buy all their albums.
Also: that band you linked was really good.

No, you can't sleep, because they're pirates. See, if they kill you they'll make sure you are very awake first. :smalltongue:

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I still think that Swashbuckle is infinitely more terrifying than Alestorm, but this thread seems to have an ungodly fascination with keytars, so I'll leave it alone. :smalltongue:

I would wager it has more to do with the threads love of folk and power metal but aye your most certainly in a metal minority with that .:smallamused:

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
maybe the next thread should be
The Metal Thread VI MOAR KEYTARS!

Ahh, but see, Cruise Ship Terror will never, ever, ever, be nearly as cool as songs like Shipwrecked
Also: their sing along chorus in that song makes more sense than Swashbuckle's. "Party-boat, party boat?" What? :smallconfused: (Yes, "get drunk or die!" does not fit the song. however, it references the greatest pirate past-time ever: getting drunk. Pirates didn't party, they got drunk. :smallwink:)
Also note: I am being rather silly here. The bottom line is that if I have a choice between "standard thrash/death metal" and "standard thrash/death metal WITH FOLK" I will always choose the latter, because Celtic Folk music makes my heart warm.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I think we can all agree in one thing. Metal + Pirates = Awesome.

Oh of course. However, Pirates should have some piratey sounds. Hence why Alestorm is superior.
Also: Swashbuckle cannot claim the title of "True Scottish Pirate Metal."

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
They're not Scottish, though, are they? :smalltongue:
Anyhow, I'd like to submit this for the metal thread's consideration...

That was not at all what I expected... I'm not sure what to make of it, honestly. :smallconfused:

I've seen that before. It's funny, but nothing I'd link my friends to.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Whee, going to an Industrial Metal gig in a couple of weeks. It's only 4 pounds to get in. There's two Industrial Metal bands, a Metal DJ set, plus another EBM band, an Industrial DJ set and a Goth DJ set. And not to mention a free shot when you go in!
Yay Industrial Metal! I'll be headbanging and industrial dancing all in one day!

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Saw a local metal band (Bay Area thrash scene is pretty cool) last night, opening for my friends (indie-rock) band. They were pretty fun, had some really interesting songwriting. Sort of hard to classify; I've seen all the musicians in other thrash bands, but this band was hardly thrash. Sort of Alice in Chains, but more metal. They're great guys, also. What do you guys think?
