Nights at the Round Table
Hello all. A while back I had an idea for a webcomic, but no one really seemed interested, and anyone who expressed any intrest didn't follow up. Recently, I've had some more ideas, so I once again submit my idea.
Basically it's a comic about some D&D players. The comic shows both them as the players and their characters. It's supposed to show the random humor of a D&D session, along with a plot with in-game characters. Here are my characters so far.
The Characters
Spoiler
Show
Greg: Greg is a computer programmer in his mid 20s. He has a high-stress job, lives in an apartment, and is single. His only savior is D&D. S0 he puts up flyers around town trying to organize a D&D group. Imagine his suprise when a bunch of teenagers show up. Greg is the straight man and is often annoyed by the antics of his Players. He is the DM.
James/Salveon: James is a musical guy. He's 17, and plays lead guitar in his band. He's got a great life, but is really only interested in Music and Soccer. His mom bought him some D&D books for Christmas and he was hooked. He plays Salveon. Salveon is an Elven Bard, the only elf on the team, which often incurs "Elfism" (Elf Racism). He is a competent character, but is put off by being forced to fight more than he'd like.
Mandy/Holly: Mandy is a slightly nerdy brunnette high schooler. She is a creative writer and dates James. She learned the game from reading James' books, and picked it up pretty easily. She plays Holly, a human paladin, and is pretty helpful in the game. She is a good character, but sometimes hinders the party with her Code of Conduct, leading to a lot of situations where Step 1 is "Don't tell Holly". Her character dates Salveon.
Reap/Myotsyn. "Reap" is a gothic high school student and an avid D&D player. Despite playing for a long time, he's petty and immature. Not much is known about him, but no one really cares enough to ask. He dislikes James, tries to hit on Mandy, and passively aggressivly hates Matt. He plays Myotsyn, a Human Sorcerer. Because they are 1st level, he's not really that effective, and often has to hide behind Fyron and Holly to survive. He is often called a loser wizard by the party, and gets angry easily. His possibly only good spell is Magic Missile.
Matt/Fydon: Matt is maybe the only normal player. He's a nice guy, a student athelete, who found a PHB in his attic and sat down and read it. He plays Varsity Tennis, and gets good grades. He likes music, which makes him James' good friend. He plays Fydon, a Cleric of Pelor. Fydon reflects Matt in being nice, and even tolerates Myotsyn. He's not really a good fighter, and is mostly a damage sponge, and his only real skill in battle is buffing and healing.
Paul/Derek: Paul is an intern at the company where Greg works. He's in his early 20s, and was forced to come to the sessions by Greg, as a personal favor. Paul is ocassionally agitated by the immaturity of the other players, and tries not to get involved in OOC discussions. He plays Derek, a human rogue, who is cunning and useful, but also sarcastic and a jerk at times. He is wanted in a lot of cities for theft.
Any art style is cool with me as long as it's good and a comic can be done 2/week. Update days for me work best on Wednesday and Sunday, but since I'm just the ideas, they can be drawn whenever and I'll update on a mutually agreed upon day.
So, anyone want to try it?

Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
Well i definately can't, I'm already neck-deep with my other webcomic.
And good gosh, another webcomic? God bless your souls.

Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
I need something to occupy my time. Plus webcomics are cool. :smallcool:

Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
Sounds interesting enough, I might give it a try. Do you have any examples of your script-writing, or while we're on the subject, do you need an art sample?
-
Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
I'm interested, seeing as how a webcomic would probably improve my style:smallwink:
A few qeustions :
Can I see a few parts of your script-writing?
How long do you think the comics should be?
Have you got a bit of plot already?

Something not unlike this?
Chainmail Bikini
Just be sure to make yours different enough to carve out your own niche.

Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
I could always lend a hand. I've been considering doing some mercenary Adobe Illustrating recently - that said, I also don't think that there are enough drawn comics. Hmm ...
Edit:I think that, to make it different from CB, there's gotta be another gimmick ... I'll think of something and post later today.

Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
Cool, glad your persevering with you idea, I can remember how many artists bailed out on you, that can be a real downer on creativity.
I'm another that's probably too busy with my own webcomic to be much help, but I did recently draw a group of D&D players around a table, and a few of them are just close enough to your character concepts that they may be of use.

These could almost be Paul, Matt, Reap & Andy with a bit of editting. I'm not going to be able to draw for you, but I wanted to post this on here to give somebody who might be interested some ideas for characters.
Anyone who takes this up for Raistlin has my full permission to use anything from the group above that they want to, you can redraw them...anything that might be of help to you.

Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
I'll think about it but I'm only an amature artist, I'll make some templates for the characters and see how it looks like.

Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
Actually, something interesting occured to me last night. Since we have so many people applying, it might be a cool idea to have two different people with different styles for real life and in-game.

Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
I got two of the characters
Greg:

James/Salveon:

Any suggestions before I commit myself and make the other characters.

That would be good.
And it would also lessen the pressure of the artists of the 'twice per week' schedule, we can each do one per week.
And a few other qeustions :
Do you want the OOC(Greg, James, Mandy, Reap Matt) People also to be in OOTS-style?
Greg DM'ing :
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...Comic-Gent.jpg
(Note, I spend 15 minuts on this, the details arent good and I am not satisfied with the chair.
If I get to be(one of the) artist(s), if I get to be one of the artists, you have a 96% chance that I will spend much more time on it)
Btw, I think I should keep it simple, as opposed to what I just did....

There's my submission, I guess. It's the elven bard.

This is my real life concept for Greg. I don't have much practice in that style, so it kinda sucks.

Can I see a few parts of your script-writing? Depends. I don't have any hard and fast scrips done, but I have some rough ideas. I could flesh them out soon, but for now, they're rough.
How long do you think the comics should be? 6-10 panels a comic usually.
Have you got a bit of plot already? Again, roughly.
A few other things: The characters will look like their players, just with different clothes and weapons and stuff. Plus elf ears in James/Salveon's case.
On the topic of two artists, I love it. A realistic style for OOC and an OotS style for IC would be awesome. Obviously, some changes would have to be made to make sure that they are still recognizable, but I think it'd work.
Individual stuff: @Yoshi: I like your style in OotS, but I prefer Szilard's. Sorry. Your realistic style is good, and if I don't see any more, it'll be the OOC strips.
@Szilard: I really like your OotS style. I have some stuff written up somewhere on the character's appearance, but what you drew fits the the feel pretty well. Unless someone steps up with amazing OotS art, you're my IC choice right now.
I'll go look for the Word document with the detailed appearance stuff and get them to you all soon.
Another thing: These will not be strips that are all OOC or all IC. Most scripts will probably have both IC and OOC panels.
-
Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
In that case, I'll draw a few more real-life's for you...
-
Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
Hold off until I can find that damned Word document.
-
Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
I'd also probably be looking at doing realistic, pen and ink style. We don't all have vector art programs, damn you! Well, OK, I do, but I think that it would be nice to have something in this forum which isn't another OOTS style thing. No disrespect to any of its practitioners, but it's good to have variety.
I'll post my initial responses tomorrow.
-
Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
Do you have an example of that style?

Cool thanks, I'll make the rest of the characters over the weekend, or should I wait untill the real life characters are posted?

Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
Idea: Perhaps Illiterate Scribe could draw the players in realistic style while Szilard draws the PCs in OOTS style. That would give a good way to distinguish between the two.

Re: Webcomic artist wanted!
HAH! Found it!
Spoiler
Show
Greg: Black pants, a button-up white shirt, and a red tie. Has short dark brown hair, and some 5 o'clock shadow.
James: Black hair, kind of long and shaggy. A dark red t-shirt with a guitar on it. Baggy blue jeans. Green eyes, white skin.
Salveon: James' skin, hair and eyes. Elf ears. Some chainmail armor with a black shirt on underneath. Weilds a scimitar, and carries a guitar on his back.
Mandy: Shoulder-length brown hair, straight. Blue eyes, white skin. A purple shirt and a grey jacket unzipped over it. Tight blue jeans.
Holly: Mandy's skin, hair and eyes. Full plate armor (No helmet), a longsword, and a shield. The shield should have a symbol of a LG god (Have fun with this. Dieties in the comic are a melting pot of regular D&D, Greek Mythology, and my own ideas.)
Reap: Really long brown hair (think Sephiroth), and all black clothing. Just plain black shirt and black jeans. He's got chains in his jean pocket, and a black coat with a picture of the Grim Reaper on the back. Pale with brown eyes.
Myotsyn: Reap's skin, hair, and eyes. He's got a red robe, and a black cloak pulled over it. He carries a quarterstaff at his side and has a crossbow strapped to his back. His other hand glows with a black energy.
Matt: Black hair with a goatee coming it. He's got a green shirt with a red jacket over it with a tennis racket on it. Red shorts. Dark skin, dark eyes. (Note: Hair style like Banjo's guy in his thing. Second from left.)
Fydon: Matt's hair, skin and eyes. Breastplate armor with a shield with Pelor symbol on it. Wields a heavy mace.
Paul: Blonde hair in a ponytail. A pair of baggy black pants and an equally baggy white shirt. Wears a watch on one hand and has a bored expression on his face. Has a pencil on one ear. Tanned skin and blue eyes.
Derek: Paul's hair, skin, and eyes. Wears black leather armor and holds a bow in his hand. A dagger at each of his hips. Wears a leather belt with a lot of pockets.

Go ahead and make them. The skin color and eye color won't differ from what I've stated, so there should be no conflict there. As for the hair, they'll probably be similar, but if they are really different, I'll just pick one out of yours and Yoshi's (Or Illiterate Scribe's) and the other can just edit theirs to fit.

Well, I'm the same way. :smallamused:
Anyway, I've got a bit of work done, but it's late, and I'm not going to have any free time tomorrow. I'll probably be able to finish up on Sunday, or at least by Monday.
