Somehow, stealthily deploying all his troops and waiting until the Knights of Jove showed their hand will hinder Lucrezia's schemes.
I count only two possibilities. I seem to be missing the second one.

Also, apparently the Wulfenbach Empire extends as far south as Istanbul, or at least close enough that he wants to position troops near there.

Option two bolded, it's really the same as option one, only Lucy didn't specifically order him to use excessive force.

Re: Girl Genius XIII: "Gott's Leedle Feesh in Trousers!"
Back to the foreshadowing I mentioned earlier. Someone said that it was the Doom Bell. I was thinking about this, and I think otherwise. The Doom Bell woke up sleeping monsters and let the Jägers in the city, but Agatha remained relatively in the background. Now if the Castle (and Agatha) could pull off something that would drive off the Baron's forces, that would certainly destroy the Empire and make all Europe recognize Agatha as the new Heterodyne. It would also require so much power that would probably deplete all the Castle's reserves, effectively killing it, therefore fulfilling the foreshadowing.

I prefer Mythbuster's Hyneman's version: "When in doubt, more c4!"

We obviously have a lot of overlap between Girl Genius readers and Schlock Mercenary readers here. I wonder what the statistics on that for the audience as a whole are.

Both are insanely successful webcomics, what with all the Hugo award nominations (and wins, in GG's case). I'd guess there's a lot of overlap.
And a little trust goes a long way. The less you use, the further you'll go.

The longer everything goes according to plan, the bigger the impending disaster.
Probably relevant to the current situation in Mechanicsburg.

Howard is himself a big fan of GG as mentioned several times on his blog, and even had Phil and Kaja on the Writing Excuses podcast he's part of, so yeah, some overlap is to be expected.

Re: Girl Genius XIII: "Gott's Leedle Feesh in Trousers!"
How about this for a crackpot theory: Anevka is no longer in control of the Baron. The destruction of the hospital was sabotage by Zola, who snatched the Baron away and is currently the one in control. Why is the Baron acting this way? Because Zola is honestly and truly (and still) smitten with Gil and would rather have him at her side as a revenant than not at all.
-
Re: Girl Genius XIII: "Gott's Leedle Feesh in Trousers!"
I'm curious as to how Klaus is going to pull this off. If his orders are to destroy Agatha, he CAN'T not kill her. On the other hand, whatever 'Anevka' told him to do might be open enough to interpretation so he's got wiggle room. And maybe she didn't even give him specific orders, he might be doing this on his own initiative as part of some greater plan...
I'm also curious as to what he's going to do next. I suspect the Knights are in trouble.

The problem is, Zola doesn't have the Voice. Anevka would have had to tell Klaus to obey the Pink One as herself for this to work; which she might well have. Then Anevka would have had to absent herself so as to not interfere; which she also seems to have done. But even the theory is true, Zola has proven to be so tricky I wouldn't assume she's doing anything for love. If she wants Gil alive, she's got an ulterior motive. Like maybe a marriage between the Heterodyne - her - and the son of the Baron...

Re: Girl Genius XIII: "Gott's Leedle Feesh in Trousers!"
Klaus's expression in the second-last panel is one of true despair.
He didn't want Gil to agree, but he can't disobey Lucrezia's orders.

Re: Girl Genius XIII: "Gott's Leedle Feesh in Trousers!"
Great. Who's this now? I don't think the speech bubble quite fits anyone we know. It seems like things are gonna have to turn pretty quickly here. Because with the destruction of the city now beginning, there's not a lot of time left for the situation to continue getting worse. Though that doesn't mean the Foglios won't squeeze in just a couple more bad things before the turn.

I thought it might be the Crypt-keepers at first, but they've got little slime drippings hanging down from their speech balloons.
The Knights' have a more mechanical appearing text in theirs.
It's not Franz or the pretty boy dragon.
We haven't seen the Bloodstone Paladins yet, but it's not even certain they can speak.
So I agree, this is probably somebody new. But whoever they are, they're close enough to be able to address Agatha directly, and the size of the balloon suggests someone fairly powerful.

Re: Girl Genius XIII: "Gott's Leedle Feesh in Trousers!"
Is everyone forgetting The Plan? Heterodyne princess is to be rescued from a Huge Army by The Storm King?
Lucrezia looks to be in control (more or less) of two of the three factions play acting a war here. There's just this disobedient daughter to guide a bit, and the whole thing will finish properly. Think how great it will be with Mechanicsburg properly subjected to her rule, quickly followed by the Empire and then all of Europa! Eeeee!
The new voice is just The Storm King.
