Firefox won't bookmark or save new browsing information (help plz)

So as of a day ago, I can no longer bookmark pages. I click on the star and nothing happens. I also noticed today (and I'm guessing they're related) that my browser is no longer regarding new browsing information - or at least, when I click on a link, you know how the links you've already used will change color to let you know that you've previously used them? Well, that's not happening anymore, and I don't think it's recording where I've visited for things like browsing these forums (you know, click to pick up where you left off) either.

My google fu is terrible, and I need help fixing this. Can someone please tell me how to make things work properly again (if at all possible, without deleting any of my browsing history)?
