Wielders of the Axe of Prissan
Starting with the most recent
Big Ears - Male Goblin Paladin. One of the protagonists of the story and current wielder of the axe.
Saral Caine* - Evil Male Half Stone Giant/Half Human. Ally of Dellyn Goblinslayer and minor antagonist in the Brassmoon arc.
Dri Featherknife - Female Human Rogue/Paladin. She was killed by Goblinslayer and Saral Caine after uncovering their plot to frame the sherrif of Brassmoon for murder.
Flejj Hillmover - Male Dwarf. He fought Kore twice and survived. His family was not so lucky. He shaved his beard in shame.
----
Felsibeth "Soot" Blackbringer - Young Female Human Paladin. Youngest to ever wield the axe.
Kelstride Blackbringer - Male Human Paladin. Soot's Father. Former chimney sweep. Killed by a Kobold stampede.
Drose - Genderless Golem Paladin. Drose passed the Axe to Kelstride Blackbringer to prevent the demon imprisoned within from taking control of his body.
Eled of the East - "Fat, over confident" Paladin. Was given the axe by Myorg.
Mryorg* - Evil Male Ogre. Beat (but did not kill) Vilias Red in combat and took the Axe from her. Used it to cause great suffering before eventually giving it to Elad purely to make the demon contained within suffer after coming so close to freedom.
Vilias Red* - Female Human Rogue. Was friends with Tivoth Fastfoot and took the axe after Tivoth died in battle with the intention of giving it to another Paladin.
Tivoth Fastfoot - Male Paladin. Encountered Vilias Red looting a corpse and assumed she had murdered the man. Once he realized she was innocent, the two became friends and traveled together.
----
Kevitch Gritland* - Evil Male... formerly... Human maybe... Fighter/Wizard. Horribly mutated by an evil swamp. Killed Eldrock Cloudcry and claimed the axe as his own.
Eldrock Cloudcry - Known in name only.
-----
Cal - Male Gnome Paladin. Egotistic gambler. Had a powerful, icy magic effect.
Jelbin Crae - Male Human Paladin. Gave Cal the Axe willingly. Nothing else is known.
*Confirmed non-Paladin

I wonder what Duv will do next. Same thing with the orc, for that matter...

How dumb are these Vipers? My god.

I can't help but think of Fighter from 8-Bit Theater here.
"But Black Mage is my best friend. And I can block any attack and kill anything that bleeds. HINT."

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
This comic is beautiful -- and right from release. Especially the top row.
I'd heard that Thunt was adapting a new, quicker drawing style.
Whatever he's doing, he should keep doing it. This is awesome.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I'm having a bit of trouble parsing out that threat.
Does he mean "There will be lots more pain and death today"?

That's how I saw it, too.

Darn! I thought I was fast enough. Well, the original's back.
Looking closely, I can see some very slight differences in this art style compared to Thunt's usual art. Thinner lines, mostly.
Let's now enjoy the grace period of the next few weeks before Thunt goes mad and returns to his overly obsessive ways.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
You have insulted our thread! For that, you shall die!
I'm really getting sick of these goblins. Call me crazy, but this is the reason why adventurers hunt 'monsters'.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I have to say that I never thought the phrase "It sure a is sunny day today." would be the most threatening thing I ever read.

Well, goblins are " Usually Neutral Evil." I'd assume that this is the case even in Thunt's setting. We just happened to get the perspective of a non-evil warcamp from the start, and even they were advised by an evil cleric.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
You know, I wasn't that much of a fan of the orc at first. He seemed like an unnecessary replacement Big Guy for K'seliss, who was awesome as only the one evil teammate can be. That last panel has changed my mind. Nice Intimidate check. :smalltongue:
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
K'seliss always struck me as more Chaotic Neutral than really evil.
Anyway, this is definitely the same "player" that did K'seliss. The mannerisms are different because the character is different, but the same big badass bruiser and the same penchant for the killer one liner are there. It's just a politer version of the exact same thing really.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Man, up to now I didn't really hate these goblins, but now they're just toooo maliciously stupid.

You DARE call the Viper Clan stupid? For that, you shall DIE! Couldn't resist, sorry =P
I dunno, I find them amusing. They're a pretty singleminded lot, really...
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I honestly didn't read a threath into the statement myself. Seemed more a way to convey that the Viper Crazy Violence is pretty unneccessary and stupid.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I wonder why are the Viper be aggressive (or the team is too dumb to get the orange goblin first)?
P.S- Is Goblin in Dark Fantasy Category. Either that or we saw too many evil (Or racist since the universe could allow lawful good to become mass murderers towards monsters) humans).

Because they're powerful enough to be aggressive, basically.
They're mean because they CAN be mean. It's the nature of any tribe to be that way to its neighbors once it has the strength, unless it has some moral reason not to.
It's not even a "good v evil" thing. Azure City was supposed to be good, and they mostly were, but they still did it to the goblins. It's just about power, and how you decide how to use it. It doesn't take much either.

It is not that the statement in itself was a threat. It was everything else leading up to it that makes it threatening. Also the simple fact the Orc's sharp pointy and intact Teeth show all the time that makes him a bit more threatening. Coupled with his unworried attitude towards having a half dozen archers aiming at him then he says the line followed by a quick statement followed by specifically repeating the line. I am fairly certain it was meant as a threat.
I would have way use that line as a battle cry. I foresee him dying in the rain though.

If he had left it at the first, "it sure is sunny today" I would agree, but with his explanation about how there is always more pain and death than there is sunshine, repeating the statement about how sunny it is, especially with that look, is pretty clearly stating, "I am going to kill me a shed load of short little white goblins if you are stupid enough to give that order."

I think it was both. "Violence is stupid, just let me leave. But if you do give that order, most of you are going to die."
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
If there's always more pain and death than sunshine, and if there's a great deal of sunshine, then it stands to reason that there's also going to be a great deal of pain and death.

K'seliss reminded me of Firefly's Jayne.
Still, it was an interesting look at an alternate psychology.
The whole semi transparent meat thing makes the orcs expressions hard to read.

What makes his expressions hard to read is mostly that his jaw never moves. Apparently, he has mastered the art of speaking only through lips movement. Try to speak while clenching your teeth and tell me if you can wax for as long as Biscuit here.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I like Biscuit. Can we keep him? Long-term, I mean? :smalltongue: And, anybody who can casually bad mouth Klik to its circumference and do the same to the Viper Clan's collective mugs is a keeper.
I'm even growing attached to the whole mostly-transparent hair and mouth thing of his, which I didn't think I would. At first.

Eh, it's not *that* hard. It would be fairly mumbled, and some words would come through less clear, but with an agile tongue and your lips moving, it's definitely doable.

I just tried it and had no difficulty pronouncing my words clearly. My family didn't even notice a difference.

Indeed.
Talking 'bout good weather, has never been so intimidating...
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Exchange pleasentries with the Orc. Its in your best intrests. Biscuit has been at work for too long and wants to unwind, and you could instead set him off. Don't do that, for all our sakes.

I'm still not over K'sellis. He was the best character in the comic and it's going to take me a lot more than this to convince me that biscuit is in the same league of awesome.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
So I looked back over the archive, and I don't think Grem is dead. I think that Dies and Fox think he's dead, but that he's not actually*. Can anyone confirm this for me?
*Or at least that we haven't seen him dead.

We never actually saw him die, last we saw he was merely in the lair of Mr. Fingers, a room that i will point out had a lot of pipes in it.
My guess is that he's crawling around in one of those pipes looking for a way out right now. And Fox just thinks he's dead since he never came back to them.

Yup. Here, to be precise.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Because if there's one thing you let your enemy do while you have them surrounded and they just announced being responsible for the death of your son...it's monologue?
I know Thunt does this a lot..but in the case especially it makes no sense. She should be enraged and ready to kill. The last thing she should do is randomly stop and listen to her enemy babble about stupid things like sunlight. It's just completely unrealistic.
-

Look at where her archers are aiming. None of them would hit their target. She's just saving herself the embarrassment by not giving her dumbass troops the order to fire.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Next comic would be a great time for Grem to emerge, unless DH is now meant to be reduced to his lonesome again.

Haha, that's awesome. Most of them can be attributed towards the art not being quite correct, but where the heck is the goblin next to her aiming?

Well, they are white-colored antagonists... insert StormTrooper Marksmanship Academy joke here...
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I'm rather partial to the dead Viper getting aimed at, myself :P Guess they think the DH team has a necro.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Some of them just look like they're aiming in the wrong direction, but that's simply due to the way they're drawn. It's difficult to depict archers facing forward without turning their bodies to face the camera — their bows just look like long sticks with something pointy jutting out in the middle.
That said, I have no idea what the hell that one Viper goblin in the upper left corner is aiming at. Maybe he thinks one of the nearby shrubberies is going to animate itself and attack? :smalltongue:

Oh wow, Duv's face in panel 2 is priceless! It's not the reaction I expected at all, she must be smarter than I gave her credit for.
"Let all the non-goblins slaves go through the south exit." Does she by chance refer to the incident where their whole tent fell off the dang cliff? Or were there more slaves than just those?
Dies, master scientist. When in doubt, poke it.

So just to be clear we all know what happened the last time that arm met it's negitive right? Who else forsees disaster in the near future?... wait...
The orb can be used to restore lost body parts... if it can be used more then once, maybe dies can get his organic arm back, and his arm can become it's own living being.

I think he meant the part where Dies almost died from blood loss.

Nah, he just got a little light-headed. The bit where the arm then proceeded to throw the offending object away seems much more likely to lead to a disaster scenario - how do you think Duv would react if Dies - or his hand - does something to get rid of the Orb of Bloodlight?
Working with that assumption, I was commenting that the arm would find it considerably more difficult to get rid of the Orb than the Key because it can't touch the Orb directly without taking a lot of damage.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Klik's negative is blood, his positive is metal.
Die's arms positive is his blood and his negative is the orb.
The orbs negative is goblin blood, Duv is a goblin.
Foreboding.
