But Hel didn't have any special claims on souls that died of disease in the last world.

She doesn't in this world, at least not by those terms. She has special claim on dwarves that die without honor. There's loads of ways to do that without involving disease.

Diseases fall under Hel's domain, and Hel was talking about Worship in that specific panel, not Souls. People would be attributing every random illness to her and thanking her when it didn't kill them.

I think she wasn't so much getting too powerful (although given how weak Odin was getting at the same time, I wouldn't completely discard it as a possibility), so much as that she was getting lazy about her clerics. That because everyone automatically worshiped her anyway, she started thinking she didn't need to spend any power on granting spells to clerics. So her daddy thought to teach her the lesson of just how crucial it is to have mortals spreading the word, by arranging her to not have any for an entire cycle (and also screw Thor in the process, because it's not a Loki plan if Thor doesn't get screwed).

In Strip 47 Yikyik's Spanish translate as "Hey, I think I failed to notice something!" or alternatively "I think I failed a spot check."

And Ian and Geoff refuse to participate in it!

Evisceratus more closely resembles the stronger gladiator defending the weaker one in #736 to me.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant.

Ah, I was confused because the whipmaster references the weaker one being killed in the arena, and Evisceratus was killed. Although it makes sense that Evisceratus would look to avenge his friend against Belkar.
-
Re: Things You Never Noticed VI: The Undiscovered Detail
Evisceratus also tried to teach Belkar a lesson in jail Before meeting him in the arena. I can see why he was looking forward to the fight.

I really feel bad for Evisceratus, because he was actually trying to do the right thing despite being horribly outclassed. That has to count for something.

At least he'll get a good afterlife.

*snrk* May I sig that?
On a more serious note, I wonder what afterlife he *would* go to? NG, CG, or LG? I'm leaning towards the last one.

Yeah, go ahead.
(We have so little to go on that I have no idea where he'd end up, although I suppose what little we see of him is reasonably Good.)

Well, dying in a somewhat hilarious way didn't prevented Roy to get into LG afterlife.

If he persists and enlighten himself enough, he may become a Hound Archon...

I just noticed that the name of the fan Therkla was assigned to steal in HtPGHS... the Ma-Guh-Fin fan when sounded out...

It's also got the silhouette of Hitchcock on it!

Re: Things You Never Noticed VI: The Undiscovered Detail
I just noticed what was going on with one of the original things someone never noticed on the original thread: Belkar's "marinade" :smalleek:

Re: Things You Never Noticed VI: The Undiscovered Detail
I just noticed that Panel 2 here is almost exactly the same as a panel in Start of Darkness. (At least in the PDF, it's at the bottom of page 40.)
Something else I noticed, p.43-44: Redcloak describes the Dark One's plan as being thwarted "first by a band of adventurers--" "--and, years later, by an order of paladins native to Azure City." In the panel with the "band of adventurers," Soon is the only member of the Order of the Scribble not present.

Is he present in the "paladins" panel?

No idea-- I wonder if maybe it indicates how they're separate in Redcloak's mind, but he still doesn't know who Soon is, or what.
Another fun one from Start of Darkness: When Xykon tests out his new Lich voice, the three lines he delivers-- "Luke, I am your father"; "Simba, you have forgotten me"; "This is CNN"-- are all lines by James Earl Jones.
