Remakes: Spider Man and Total Recall
My thoughts:
Spider man: I think its safe to say its looking...eh ish. Darker plot? An actor who simply isn't as well cast as the first one (He seriously looks like he is from Twilight)? A picture of Spidey posing with Gwen Stacy like their in Twilight? I might end up wrong but things aren't looking thier best.
Total Recal: Realy? Who was asking for this? Except now there isn't any mars in it at all and now its just Bladerunner.
:smallsigh:

Re: Remakes: Spider Man and Total Recall
Huh. Total Recall without Mars? Really? I mean, the entire Mars plot was a bit silly and it departed a bit from the book, but it wasn't a really bad movie. One of the... less bad, I guess?... Horselover Fat movies.

Re: Remakes: Spider Man and Total Recall
Wait, what? They remade total recall? WHY?! Oh wait, silly question, because movie execs know that people will go to watch a remake of a well known movie no matter how good/bad it is. Hey, its easier and cheaper than trying to create something new for a change.

... No mars, no deal. It may have strayed fromt he source (which I have unfortunately never read) but Totall Recall is still one the better Sc-fi movies out there.

Meh, it looks interesting enough. It could be better. I haven't seen that much to make a firm opinion yet. I do kind of wish they just went forward from the third movie. I mean it was bad, but there have been worse films that have had sequels.

Can't be as good as the original because that had the duke of one liners*, Schwarzenegger.
*Bruce Campbell is the king of one liners.:smallwink:

I saw this in one of the 3D movie previews. From what I remember, most of it was taken up by the first-person camera from Spider-Man's perspective, complete with crawling around on walls and flipping around the camera orientation. I'm not a fan of that style of camerawork to begin with, and given that was basically the entire preview, it did not make me interested in seeing the movie.
No comment about the cast, as I didn't recognize them and didn't see enough to get an opinion.

Re: Remakes: Spider Man and Total Recall
If they don't include some sort of shoutout to the three-boobed hooker, I will be mucho disappointed.

I thought it was pretty cool. Like a first person perspective of soaring through the air. It almost makes you feel like you're there. I liked it.

Re: Remakes: Spider Man and Total Recall
Total Recall . . . without Mars?
Sounds like a ripoff of the Borne Identity.

There will be a set of triplet hookers with only one boob each. Like one boobed versions of the stepford cuckoos from xmen.

Re: Remakes: Spider Man and Total Recall
Total Recall. Not likely. But I've been wrong before.
Spider-man. It's too soon to Redo the Origin Story. Lizard could be a good bad guy, but it's not the one I really wanna see. There Pushing Gwen Stacy this time and ignoring Mary Jane near as I can tell. Not sure I like the look of the extra Angst that is above and beyond what was in the first movie, which had the perfect level of Angst for a good spider-man story. Or the look of the actor playing Parker now. But the first person web slinging was cool.
And were only getting a new spider-man movie so Sony won't lose the rights to it and have them revert back to Marvel. It was the same reason we got an X-men Movie that listed Havoc, Banshee, Darwin, Some chick form New X-men who far as I know didn't even have a code name, and Mystique as Original X-men and ignored the previous movies assertion that Professor X was walking fifteen years before X-men one by crippling him a good forty years before X-men one.

Well, if Spider-man is as good as First Class was, I'm not going to complain.

Re: Remakes: Spider Man and Total Recall
Yeah, except for a movie focusing on Original X-men, it's insane that there were only TWO original X-men in it!
And they messed up a major chunk of there own Canon for the cinema versions with one, and added a totally unnecessary character element too the other.

Re: Remakes: Spider Man and Total Recall
Isn't their some weird legal stipulation in the contract that if they don't produce a Spider-man movie every <x> number of years, they lose the rights to it?

King and Duke in their time, perhaps. But the golden age of one-liners was back in the era of Bogie et al.

Yes there is. If Sony doesn't pump out a spider-man movie every X years, Marvel get's the rights back. Marvel WANT'S the rights back in a bad way. Sony knows a Gravy train when they see one so they don't want that to happen.
X-men and Ghost-Rider, same thing. I think Daredevil is in the same boat as well but I'm not sure about him.
And I'm in the camp that want's marvel making the marvel movies. Here's hoping this flops so bad Sony opts to give up the rights and Marvel can do there own Reboot. Maybe with Craven the Hunter for the badguy. I'm back and forth in my head on who should play Craven.

We Can Remember it for You Wholesale wasn't very long and is more of a jumping-off point for the original Total Recall than anything. The basic idea of memory-implantation-as-vacation uncovering suppressed memories of similar events is about all there is to it, really.

Ehh it was a good movie, a lot can be forgiven if the sins still make for quality entertainment. And I read X-Men comics for awhile, a convoluted self-conflicting canon seems to be the most accurate thing they've done with the X-Men movies yet.

Is it a good read though?

It's been a while, but I remember liking it. I mean, it's Philip K. Dick writing science fiction - hard to go wrong there, right?

Re: Remakes: Spider Man and Total Recall
My reaction to Spider-man trailer:
"Has it finally happened? Am I just not a target audience for comic book movies anymore? This movie looks really terrible."

Looks strictly passable. Will probably watch, but I'm hardly salavating.
