"Flim Flam. Don't. I'm not paying the hospital bill."
That's... an oddly specific spell.
More seriously though, I suppose as long as Smoothie don't go barrelling her way all over the place trying to solve problems, it should be alright. We do have a couple of magical problems still sitting around unresolved. *cough* magical sammich *cough*
Yeah, and Heartflight stuck as a foal. I'm fine with her not solving these, as long as it's not constantly rubbed in her face or anything. I don't care whether she solves every magical problem or not, I just care if a magical problem is brought before her, and there's some BS reason she CAN'T solve it, because the player doesn't want it solved.
Basically, if you don't want it solved, I'd rather she just wasn't aware of it.
Okay, yes, Smoothie is completely overpowered. She's significantly more powerful than Twilight, the pupil of what amounts to this world's God. I ... now, I can live with this, personally, since it shouldn't have a major impact on the story. But there needs to be a damned good reason for it, because I like my RPs to make at least a little bit of sense within the context of their origin (in this case the original show).
Also, I do take issue with the idea of her actually removing energy from existence. Moreover, the idea of her violating the principle laws of physics. As far as I'm concerned, whatever energy was lost with the destruction of Simmer just dissipated or went away, and was never actually destroyed. I won't rub anything in Smoothie's face, if you don't rub this in my face.
Twilight was most likely taught a very specific curriculum from Celestia's school, and only allowed certain subjects. Smoothie had no such restrictions. Not only that, but last I checked, Twilight doesn't have eidetic memory, and didn't stay inside her house for five straight years doing nothing but reading every book she could get her hooves on because going outside might do horrible things to her brain.
I can't remember every page in any book I've ever read word for word. Smoothie can remember every page in every book she's ever read word for word.
There are reasons beyond this (Which have yet to be revealed IC), but those alone should be sufficient as a beginning explanation.
(If she forgets something, it's because I forgot something. I'm human, she's not. :smalltongue:)
Not trying to rub this in your face, I'm just pointing this out.Quote:

"Evocation
Spells that manipulate energy or create something from nothing. An evocation specialist is called an evoker."
"Necromancy
Spells that manipulate, create, or destroy life or life force. A necromancy specialist is called a necromancer."
First one is explicitly called out as violating that rule of physics. The other one equally so, if you consider life force to be energy. If you don't, then I guess she hasn't broken that law of physics, since what Simmer was could easily be argued to be life force.
I know, and I frankly don't care. It breaks my immersion. Besides, as far as I'm concerned, that's an example of an unreliable narrator suffering the ignorance of its time, namely, "If I can't see it, it doesn't exist." Therefore thinking that just because it cannot see where the energy is coming from means that it must be coming from nothing.
(Note: Narrator is referring to the person who wrote those descriptions, and not Becca.)
What qualifies as a BS reason?
*dons magical scholar hat*
Well, it's been shown on the show that magic itself is a type of energy, right? Unicorns have it, they seem to run out of it when casting too many (or too difficult) spells, and they eventually regain it through biological means. So there is some form of energy to power whatever effect happens.
On top of that - while we're mentioning the D&D system - what about the multitude of different planes? What if the "destruction" is simply the thing getting broken down, then shunted to some plane where its components will be turned into whatever makes up that plane? Or in the case of Neighcromancy, I seem to remember those spells were powered by snagging Negative Energy from the Negative Energy plane.
So while from our perspective in Equestria, it may well look like - and function for all intents and purposes - as creation/destruction, I'd wager there's sufficient things going on in the background that can offer an explanation.
Just a thought that might help settle things.
And magic having to give a damn about the laws of physics breaks MY immersion.
Basically, any reason that makes it so nothing she can do is capable of solving it. No amount of studying to find a solution no matter how old an obscure, no spell, no magic whatsoever can solve it.
Basically, if you don't want it solved by magic, don't bring it before her. It doesn't have to be her magic, it doesn't have to be solved quickly, but if it's going to be brought before her, it has to be able to be solved somehow.
So, something like the sammiches story with Sandy? Not something I want her to take part in, because she can't do anything until Amish decides whether he wants it fixed or not.
I don't even mind if she knows about a story with something she can't solve, as long as it's not indicated to her that the person wants it fixed. Or, heck, if it's something that she'd be able to solve, but you don't want it to be solved, just tell me that, and I can come up with a reason she wouldn't solve it.
I just don't want her to consistently be completely useless in the only area she's any good at.
Oh, another type of magic she sucks at. Emotion based magic. Along with friendship based, if that counts as its own category.
Fair enough. What about "She could solve it, but there would be undesirable consequences, so best leave it alone"?
I imagine it is. All of Cadence's magic seems to be love-based, and Friendship is Magic, after all.
I think this is what we used to deal with the sammich effects short-term. The magic effect was becoming slightly intertwined with Sandy's being, so attempting to casually remove it bore some risk to himself.
Alright, we can leave it be. You can imagine that magic follows no rules and that Smoothie can break the laws of magic. I can imagine that magic does follow rules and that what she did simply falls within those rules. We can thusly co-exist. But you have to stop shoving it in my face! In our last RP, for example, I felt like you kept trying to shove it in my face that she can break the rules of magic. Please, don't. We can co-exist and let each other see the story as we want to see it, but let's not try not to do any face-shoving.
Not a problem, as long as it doesn't happen too often. This is far more preferable than "She can't solve it at all" as long as it doesn't happen the majority of the time.
If you're going to ask me not to do something, you're going to have to define what you don't want me to do. I can't abide by requirements for peacekeeping I can't reasonably keep because I'm not sure what they are.
Grif, which eatery did Silverpine take himself and Gear to?
Let's see...I know Purity has a couple of ponies that haven't had something to do in forever. Deme has Top Hat and Silk Scarf. There's a dozen and a half members of the Pepper family that could be out and about...
And really, I'm more just throwing around ideas of ponies who haven't had a whole lot to do while the stallions were away.
You know, Grief has a perfectly good cafe. So does Grills if you want something more upscale.
Who is going on the mission in the Mountains to find the medicinal plants?
Of course Silvermane is.
BTW, if anypony wants to bump into Heart as she's delivering donuts, feel free. I honestly have no idea where this is going to go.
Okay, due to reasons not revealed, Heartflight, the mare-turned-foal, is going to need a new roommate. Would anypony be interested in moving in with her as a roommate/friend/surrogate mommy? (I might or might not be kidding on that last one.)
I'm a little out of the loop here.
EDIT: To reflect edits. :smalltongue:
Anyway, Icy might be amenable, since technically she's still staying in the Civic Centre.
Edited....
@Purity: If you'd like Winterflap to come across Sandy, he's walking along the beach now. They can finally start up that whole "Sandy learns how to use pegasus abilities" plot.
Alternatively, Icy can track him down to start getting him ready for SCIENCE!
I suppose it's a matter of who finds him first.
Unless somebody has a very strong objection for very good reasons, I'm going to timebubble the Smoothie's birthday party storyline. I'd kinda like to get it started before December. :smalltongue:
I want to give everybody the sincerest of apologies.
We will not be doing the party scene.
The writers of this show/universe want to take the show/universe in a direction I'm not remotely comfortable with. A direction that, had I known the show was heading in, I would never have watched, never have made any of these characters, ETC. Heck, if I could, I'd retcon each and every one of my characters out of existence.
I will be finishing up all outstanding scenes, and then I will be leaving, with a short blurb about what happens with each of the characters. I will no longer be RPing with any of them in any context.
I profusely apologize, but at this point, I don't have a choice. The base universe is dead to me. I have no desire to RP within it, or even acknowledge its existence. I am so thoroughly disgusted at the turns it has taken that I can't stand it any longer.
This is non-negotiable. I'm done.
