That Guy with a Halberd
For those just reading, or have recently been shown this thread, the idea is to take a completely minor and unecessary character (in this case Guy with a Halberd) and lobby for his reapearance/cameo.
those wanting to join are simply asked to show, some kind of support (most commonly a signature link or slogan.)
For more information, see my first post on page 2.
here's the link to the GwaH writing contest!

Here is something that I've always wanted to see done.
Take a bit part character and lobby for his return.
In this case "The Guy with a Halberd"
http://http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0432.html
with enough people posting something like this in their signature, sending messages to Rich Burlew, or using other forms of word spreading it may be possible to actually get someone like this guy to become a recurring character with a name.
That would be insane if this grassroots proposition actually works .

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
You would be better off writing some fan's fiction about the character. Burlew does not pander to the base.
Also, as a friendly reminder, it is against the forum's rules to post altered images of his comic anywhere on the site. You may want to edit your signature there.

Seriously, are you trying to cast "Smite Thread"? :smallamused:
and thank you admiral, I did not realize.

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Why so pessimistic? I mean, I know Rich himself stated that he doesn't change the comics at all no matter what people post, and I know that guy is probably dead (unless we can find him on the ship somewhere), but can't you at least let people have their fun?
I think I'm gonna join the Random Guy with a Halberd fanclub and at least see if we ever get a smiley made for us.
-
Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Also, why railroad somebody else's plot? This isn't an RPG where the story line is interactive. This is Rich's story that he's telling the way he wants to; if he sees an idea on the forum and likes it enough to incorporate it, grand. Otherwise....
-
Re: That Guy with a Halberd
It is not a matter of altering it. All it could be is a single panel where he says a cue.
Besides, this is a matter of aiming high in attempt to hit something on the way down.

I am so joining this fan club! Sign me in!
-
Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Sounds like fun. I'd do it if I didn't have a nearly full signature.
Also, sorry to be pessimistic, but I doubt it will work.
I'm sure Rich know that people will make MORE demands if the guy with the halberd thing works out.

Correct me if I am wrong...but are you suggesting SPAMMiNG THE GiANT???
At any rate, The Guy With A Halberd should definitely NOT reoccur...what he did to that goat was just unacceptable, man.

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Its possible that that guy is Daigo
-
Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Between you and me... Its possible that every soldier on that comic strip are Daigo, they look all the same.

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Ah, the unsung hero of Order of the Stick: the Guy with a Halberd!
Here's an avvie I made up:

Everyone I turn into an avvie looks like they're going to burst into song. Have you checked the Avatarist awards in my sig? I'm famous for it. :smallwink:
Edit: BTW, the avvie is 117 by 82 pixels. You need to specify the right dimensions otherwise it ends up a bit stretched.

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
The more I think about it, the more I wonder whether this should focus on the more feasible idea of creating an Azure Guard Club (then working our way up to lambasting the giant).
what do you guys think?
If so, would you be able to make more avatars and smileys for it Trazoi?
-
Re: That Guy with a Halberd
The whole Azure Guard? They're basically the same two models with different weapons.
I don't think I have the time to make an army, but I can make the SVG I used to make the Guy with a Halberd available. It's then just a question of making new weapons and poses, and if someone's keen, the female model.

I would say posting a check for 6 figures or so would have a serious effect on the strip. On a rather trivial level, there have been a number of changes to the strip due to writers finding spelling or other editorial errors.

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Making the Guy with a Halberd(hereafter known as GwaH. Or maybe George.) a recurring character would be awesome. I was the treasurer of the fan club for a while, but then I found better things to put on my sig.
-
Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Well, he could have survived and joined Haley's Resistance.
Anyway as for the Giant not catering to the fanbase, what about Kazumi and Daigo? Maybe he had always planned for them to survive, but maybe he kept them around because the fans really liked them.
And don't forget about the bandana paladin a lot of people liked. He was later shown climbing Mount Celestia. Couldn't that have been a small nod to the fans?
While we can't expect the Giant to write around our opinions, I think it'd be cool to see him give some of our favorite bit characters a cameo or two.

Probably not. He had to go to special trouble to introduce them in the first place. While that did not guarantee their current role, or even their survival for long, it did mean he had plans for them before anyone could call for them to stay in the story. It seems unlikely their role has been expanded.

It is at least more possible. The picture pretty much called for somebody to be there, so why not something that seemed to please some readers? But it might alternatively been the figure most easily placed in the area, or just the first one his eye fell on when considering who to put there.

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Despite all the arguments against these kobolds are posting, I still think it's a kick-awesome idea.

Not entirely true. Some of them have blue hair.

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Yea! this would be interesting to see if any of the pans out, I'll join this for sure... so uh.. do I just make up a wacky reference of it to put on my sig or are you gonna start assigning them?:smallconfused:

That seems resonable. If the stip calls for a bit charecter, fan favorite un-named bit charecters would fit perfectly. Also, WWtGwtH Do?

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
I can almost sort of imagine it, as the resistance is leading the slaves out of Azure City, O-chul asks if any of the slaves know how to fight. GWAH:I was a guard before the goblins invade O-Chul:Funny...I don't remember you...GWAH: Are you sure?I was that guy with a halberd.

"WWtGwtH Do?" That would be an awesome banner for my sig. Can anyone here do something like that? or should I request it on the Arts and Crafts forum?

While there may be slaves in Graysky City, they haven't featured particularly prominently in the story yet. I doubt O-chul will ever have a proper conversation with one, even.
Yes, I know you meant Azure City. :smallwink:
