[Biodome]
((Sorry, wasn't aware Doom had posted.))
Lucky looks at Marlena disapprovingly. "One of dem friend to all living tings type. How annoying. Either die too fast, or hard to kill, like Gaia."
Then Ross joins in, causing Lucky to scoff. He can't understand why he's joining her to make a fool of himself.
"Poisonous eh? If dat's the case, then stop jumping around like idiots!"
Maybe it's time for him to find more sensible people.

After some amusing flailing, Civvy ends up on her feet! The second offered hand goes much better, since Civvy actually knows what to do with that one! She shakes Cirae's hand happily! "My name's Civvy! I also normally greet people at the door, but must have missed you coming down. I do apologize for that! Welcome to HALO!" Civvy finishes with a big old happy grin.
"Like I said, no need to apologize - I just sort of ended up wandering down here. Didn't really leave you much time to get up there! And it's not like I got hurt or anything." Cirae smiles, calming down a bit now that Civvy is proving to be nice, if still a little different. But hey, it's the Nexus. Weird is the norm! Civvy barely makes a blip on her Strangeometer compared to some of the things Cirae has seen. "Besides. I met you first anyway, so it doesn't matter too much I met you here instead, does it? Unless you have a boss who'd get annoyed if you weren't there. But I don't see why I'd need to tell them if you do?"
Admittedly she's probably only saying that because she's never met Tobias. Civvy is nice and all, but he's scaaaaary. At least when he wants to be. And much as she wouldn't want to get Civvy in trouble with him (not that that would actually do much, but she probably wouldn't know that even if she had met him), she'd want to get him upset with her even less.

Civvy says with a smile! "Thaaat," she says, her eyes going wide, "is brilliant. That's right! You met me first, so it's kind of like I met you first. Except not at all except for how much it is!" Civvy that doesn't make sen- "I don't think he'd get annoyed. But yes. Let's nooot tell him.
What brings you here?" She asks, quite happy at meeting new people. "Do you want a tour?"
Meanwhile!
Catherine, still waiting for her apparently Jr. Uncle to respond, sighs slightly, and just hands the phone to Aiden. "You talk to him. It's my uncle Jr. Something."

"I'm not that fragile, yeah. And besides, you're soft! That does tend to help with the not breaking bones bit." She giggles a bit, shrugging as she steps forward to hug Civvy. "Are you alright, though? I mean, I did sort of land on you a little. And the floor's a lot less cuddly than you are! Probably. I mean I haven't tried to cuddle the floor. But they usually are. Not cuddly in general, I mean, since I don't think that falling on top of you really counts for determining your cuddliness specifically?"
...Civvy may be rubbing off on her. Which is either adorable or terrifying, depending on perspective. Or maybe both; the Nexus is like that sometimes. "And yes. Let's not then! No reason he'd need to know. As for what brings me here... It seemed interesting? And the whole 'bringing help to people' bit sounded nice. But yes! A tour would be fun. As long as it's not the boring sort of tour but you don't seem like the kind of person who'd give one of those."

"Uh-huh." Aiden takes the phone and lifts it to his ear, saying, "Sorry, we're too busy wondering what in the world an uncle Jr. is. Talk to you later!" And on that, he hangs up the phone.

I don't wish to tell because I just want people to judge me for who I am, not who my blood comes from

When I arrived at VIGIL the situation was already grim. The lesser demons were being led by a fully fledged lord with some sort of enchantment that protected him from most kinds of damage. I moved into the courtyard and met up with Wenomir. The demons released some kind of gas agent that kept the other members from fighting. Because I was able to fight, I went back out to buy time for the members to evacuate and perform asset denial. I managed to kill the first demon lord and many of it's underlings after the second lord arrived with reinforcements. At that point KR called out for everyone to leave. With my role in the plan complete and the remainder of VIGIL dealt with I took my leave in order to come back here and prepare for a possible continuation of events here.
From what I could tell, it wasn't just a simple matter of demons breaking through the barrier between worlds to rampage, they were working for something. What they were there for remains unclear though. I've already set Ross to developing ways to prevent the base from being easily destroyed by the demons abilities that I was able to observe. That's just about it.

Thank you. I have an ROTC commission from the Spinward Middle Colony Academy on Javrik 4, but there was a vacancy issue and so I couldn't start at Lieutennant. But I couldn't be assigned to just any random duty, so they moved me to Specialist... then the war started.
She has a glare that speaks of paperwork, red tape, and a great deal of frustration.
And I would just as soon stay, if you'll have me. I don't tend to get along with religious types.
[Glade]
Hmmm... Thank you Grant. I trust you'll continue to display your initiative and leadership if these demons go after the civilians of the Nexus. Tobias stands up and paces around the firepit before contemplatively removing one of the red-hot bars and dropping it onto a bare patch of dirt.
Very well then. The offer still stands, should you wish to take a quick trip just to ask questions of those better able to answer them than myself. I'll gladly welcome you into our ranks, but I must inform you that the degree of HALO's paramilitarism depends solely on the collective interest of the members. We do have the facilities and equipment to support combined arms tactics, but many of our members at the moment trend towards individual vigilantism. Grant and my sister, both experienced in their own worlds' armed forces, being the notable exceptions who actually prefer the structure of military life. I had thought of reaching out to the Union, to perhaps get some cooperation going, but... Ah, I shouldn't bore you with that sort of thing. Just be aware that HALO is significantly less organized than whatever group you were formerly with. And you'll find everyday life in the base to be much more lax than aboard your ship. He smiles good-naturedly. Which you may consider more positive than a negative. You don't have to hot rack or stand middle watch, at the very least. Anything else I can do for you, before Grant takes you off to get settled in?

Actually, I rarely spend time in HALO. Soteira's wings flutter as she smiles. Anything alcoholic to drink in there, or is it a "dry" fridge? Presumably only a few fridges in the various kitchens are stocked for adults. All those stupid kids running around. :smalltongue:

Carrie pointedly stares at Agatha's chest before replying. I'll take the compliment, even though I don't care what people say, I'm not that much of a tomboy. Unless that's just a jab at my chest size, which is perfectly fine. Ladies with wings can't go galumphing around with melons in their shirts.
Carrie tells herself this a lot, even though her wings aren't natural and thus her body wouldn't be predisposed to any certain shape because of them.

[Tobias' Glade]
Linda nods.
Thank you. And yes, that does sound good! And it was plucking chickens until my arms ached that was my most dreaded assignment... watch wasn't so bad. Oh, and torpedo handling... ugh.
And no, I have no more questions right now. Thanks for the offer, but I'm sure I'll have an opportunity to visit my distant relatives at some point regardless... I'm in no hurry.
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Grant grunts in affirmation.
That's the plan. For the time being I'm going to have my people watching around Inside. I figure they'll be better suited to it anyway as they'll have less issue with collateral damage than I will as their powers and skills tend to be far less... Mass destruction oriented. It shouldn't be a problem.
He looks over to Linda.
Come on then Troop, let's get you roomed up and the tour.

Entryway: Good Old Dramatic Irony!
Blanche nods in understanding.
Thanks. I'll do my best not to fret about it.
she replies, her definition being to have caution about it.
And Kyne, if you ever have need of it, my blade is yours.
Blanche offers, extending the branch of friendship (or at least alliance).

Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Hallways
Grant moves to lead Linda down through the various facilities found in HALO, ending back at the Training room.
So I had a proposition for you there, Troop.
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Linda's ears perk up
Interesting... And what would that be?
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Grant looks down at Linda, eyes appraising, searching for the things he looks for in people, conviction, focus and the intestinal fortitude to do what has to be done.
I just got back from a fight at the group called VIGIL, another group that was dedicated to combating evil. They were destroyed by a demonic invasion. I managed to kill one of their full fledged lords as you just heard. But one person, no matter how powerful is not enough in engagements like that. For that reason I am putting together a group that can respond to danger at a moment's notice, provide support to those under attack and engage in preventative offensive missions to prevent the enemy from being able to mount these attacks in the first place.
He crosses his arms and the blue glow in his eyes flashes brightly for a moment.
It won't be easy and most likely the start will be rough. But be that as it may, would you be interested in joining up with me?
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Linda closes her eyes briefly, then smiles
I was supposed to be a Second Lieutenant, you know. But it wasn't meant to be, and I shuffled torpedoes and did drills until all of the sudden it was a real war, and the little dots I was shooting at weren't simulations - they were live weapons coming our way.
I cleaned chickens, I did morning exercises and drills and training. I cleaned toilets and washed laundry and stacked boxes of goddess only knows what until my claws wore off. I moved tubes of stuff so dangerous that they say each time I so much as looked at one my life was shortened by two years, I sat through watches in the night, and I jumped to my station ready to go each and every time. I didn't abandon my post even when... even when the worst did happen. Sir: to a very real extent, I'm already dead... but I'm not. So I'll do whatever needs to be done, however it needs doing, if it means other people can have the life they were meant to have - the life I never had and never will because if I go back... You want rough? Die in the hard radiation of an antimatter explosion and feel your cells dissolve as a trillion joules of gamma rays flow through your body - everything's easier after that.
Yes, I'm very interested.

Meeanwhile, Back In The Infirmary....
Felandria, fully healed and back to usual size, finally tires of waiting for someone to check in on her and goes looking for someone to tell her what to do.

Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Grant grins fiercely as he takes a strange looking patch from his coat. The patch is black and white in the shape of a shield. The upper center is emblazoned with a thirteen point star and a runic inscription directly above, following the curve of the top of the shield.
Then welcome to the now reconstituted First Daemphage Regiment. That patch was the first one issued to me back when the unit was first stood up.
He gives Linda that dry look from before as he attempts to hand her the patch.
Try not to get it destroyed, please?
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Linda accepts the patch gratefully, then smirks
I'll do my best, sir, but I must warn you that I'm only rated 89% on anti-torpedo countermeasures.
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Grant rolls his eyes.
We do mostly ground work here but I intend to eventually get us air power. Maybe we can get you trained up on some basics of infantry work while I work on getting us what we need.
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Linda laughs - the first time in the Nexus
I rather figured - Nikallar Mark VI torpedo launchers are probably in short supply around here, as are Millicut anti-torpedo systems.
I've got my class II marksman's badge, so as long as you aren't hoping for a sniper I'm not going to do too badly. And I'm trained for hand-to-hand as well: boarding was all too common, especially on a ship the size of a dreadnaught. Unarmed, sidearm, and slicer-baton.
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
[Infirmary]
Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm ungrateful. I'm sorry you had the terrible misfortune to fall in... to like me, but thanks for saving my life and probably my soul and, and stuff. Agatha tries to place a soft hand on Carrie's chin and kiss her.
[Entryway]
In the unlikely event that I would need it, I'd just take it. Kyne laughs, semi-seriously rejecting that offer and countering with the branch of Know Your Place, Girl.
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
[Infirmary]
Carrie blushes, but kisses right back and slides her hand to Agatha's shoulder. You're welcome. Just try to stay out of further trouble, hon.
-

Blanche chuckles at that.
Well, if you ever need someone to bring you your blades or wield the extra one, i'm willing to serve.

Grant shakes his head.
We'll get you outfitted properly. Most of your weapons should be fine but we need something for your protection other than the uniforms you wear on a ship. We're also working on camo gear that can adjust to the environment it is surrounded by. Naturally keep that bit to yourself. Quiet project. You know how it is.

Linda nods
Sounds good. Quite right: I can certainly see how a standard uniform and 5-minute shield belt are not going to cut it. And yes, I know quite well how such things go.
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Grant starts walking to the armory.
"We might have an energy weapon for you. Then possibly active armor. Should be fine for you without making weight an issue."
He looks back at Linda.
"The hierarchy isn't something that you need to worry about. Basic over all is myself, then yourself and others I can bring in. Ranks can be sorted later though once we get air power I'll need you to be ready to oversee that section. There will be two basic sections. Ground and Mobility-Support. Mobility is going to be responsible for getting us where we need to go as well as providing gunship support."
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Linda nods again
I have my service pistol and baton, but they're both pretty light duty. Something a little more substantial would be nice.
And I'd prefer a shield generator to anything heavier - I never trained in powered armor or any such equipment: they'd get in the way.
She listens intently, ears focused on Grant
Makes sense.
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Grant moves through the armory, picking through weapons and offers her a strange looking shield generator that is quite small. There is quite a large selection of weapons to choose from.
"If I was you, I would choose a few for various situations."
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
Linda accepts the shield
Thanks. And yep: makes sense.
She picks through the assorted weaponry with thinly disguised glee, tail flicking and ears intent. She sniffs each of them, discarding several promising-looking candidates after that somewhat odd seeming test.
After a time, she selects a heavy pistol with swappable power cells (and a nice belt of those, and a spare charger!), and a medium rifle that uses the same cells - a very convenient bit of interchangeability! Moving along, she picks up a lightsabre and puzzles at it
-
Re: HALO 181: 0.55% Cooler Than The Last One!
When Grant sees the lightsaber he can't help but shift into a gravelly voice.
Much power is within you, LT Fuzzy. :smalltongue:
