Also, YAY! for skits and the revivification of the comic.
Of course, that's just a rough estimate. The actual planned content of each comic might push it into two comics to cover the little summary I have written out for that comic chapter. Now that the beginning training stuff is over I can get into the actual story part of this story; I've always have trouble writing beginnings, so now that it's pretty much over I can start doing what I think I do best, writing the middle parts.
And in this case, I am thinking 27 steps ahead.

The combat system looks pretty fun... not perfect, but I vastly prefer it to turn-based. I'll have to try Final Fantasy...
Anyway, the story's gotta get further in before I can really evaluate the comic.

It's tricky to get used to, but a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.
Expect loads of plot twists, at least one wham episode, some form of magitech, excellent characterization, Spoiler

someone's going to be a traitor, and stab anyone with the rank of Commandant in the face. It'll save you a lot of trouble later.
So who's the wizard, and who's the lethal chef? :smalltongue:
-
Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Thanks Coffee for bringing that up. The mage and lethal chef are now the same character. I had a couple candidate for "worse chef" but none really fit until you reminded of the Tales' lethal chef trope.
I checked up Wham episode to make sure it meant what I thought it, yes it does, and yes there will be one. Or more.
AND, your Commandant refers to Tales of the Abyss, but I recall it also applies to Tales of Vesperia, making it apply to all future Tales media. (Except mine, as of now there are no plans to have a Commandant in the story)
Finally, I just found out, or was posted 5 days ago here, that I am now a part of the Tales Universe, at least in using an alternate spelling of my title.
tl;dr

The main plot of [Tales of the World:] Tactics Union revolves around the Tales characters being summoned into the world of Revalia and losing all of their memories.
I can't say anything but lol.

Wonderful to see this moving again
That's all for me to say for now.

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Ooh, what's this mage going to be like?
-
Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Meh, after looking it up, only the Final Fantasy MMOs have real time combat. I'll stick with Guild Wars 2. Because Norn are awesome. And Charr. And the Charrzooka!
Of course, now I might have to get Tales...

What is Tales game and what is its unique features (to understand or predict this comic)? I am only familiar with parody (Mardek RPG) and the western RPGs (like Skyrim).

Mardek is a parody? I didn't even know it was based off them.
I really gotta get around to playing Mardek 3... the timing system for Mardek and Paper Mario make the turn-based combat okay.

Ehh. I don't play many Tales games, but I never really liked Genus from Symphonia, and Symphonia and Vesperia are the two games that I think of when I hear Tales. Rita was better, but still annoyingly intellectual. A melee build on her is amazing though.

Ten words as to why I love the Tales mages: "I, who stand in the full light of the heavens..."

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
The tales series has the best incantations for spells.

Speaking of which, in the last panel of the first comic, I just noticed that the city's surrounded by what looks like a barrier blastia.

If Tales of Symphonia and Vesperia have taught me anything, it's that if there's no conspiracy revolving around something with deific power, it ain't Tales.
...
Wait, what does that have to do with seeing a barrier blastia? :smallconfused: huh.

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
To be a bit too attentive to the details, unless first aid is a really low level spell or has extra effects magic is underpowered in this game.
-
Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
In Symphonia 1 and 2 (and I believe phantasia), First aid healed what amounted to something like 30% of the target's health base. I haven't played other tales games, but I know that generally speaking they make an effort for magic and especially defensive magic to scale appropriately rather than learning ridiculous numbers of magic upgrade spells.
And yes, First Aid is the most basic healing spell.
-
Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Yeah, then they have stuff like Healing Circle (heals all allies in the spell's radius for a lot) and Nurse (heals all allies onscreen, but for less than Healing Circle).

I laughed so hard the first time I cast nurse in Symphonia. Vesperia made it look a lot more respectable.

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Hey guys, TK here writing from my uncle's house in a small town west of Paris, France. :smalltongue:
Three things, I'll try to live up to the actual games when I come up with my own spells and their incantations. And their animations.
I also stopped worrying about the numbers that come about of the comic, if it seems disproportioned. I figured that caring so much about realistic numbers in the comic world would get so much crazier later, making sure everyone's HP and TP are at the right level, the damage output from the party and the monsters are realistic to their level, and how their strength and defense stats measure up with the relative weapons and armors and accessories they are equipping. So, don't worry that First Aid may seem underpowered or etc. Right now at around level 8-10, I don't think they should be at 800 HP yet. So for now until I figure out some sort of damage calculator, just treat the numbers on-panel as part of the "video game look".
Finally, it's a coincidence that it looks like a barrier blastia. I just like floaty glowey rings around things and this is supposed to be a parody of most of the JRPGs that I've played.
 Keep talking guys, this is fun to watch.

Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Lucky you, I've always wanted to go to France...:smalltongue:
So, when's the next comic coming out?
-
Re: Tales of Revelia: JRPG-styled Fantasy Webcomic
Hopefully when I get back, which is next Friday, I can recover from the time zone difference and jet lag enough to work, so that the comic should be out by the week after.

Okay then, sweet! Say, do you have all the recipes, or do you want suggestions?

As is the Tales cooking recipes?
I can get the official recipes from guides, but feel free to suggest reasonable foods and their ingredients. Remember that in the end I still decide what goes in the comic. :smalltongue:
