Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
These are looking pretty spiffy indeed. *Thumbs up at Rich*

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Well that's one I never thought of.
Nice work, thanks Giant.

The pdf stories were supposed to be drive specific.
Making the available as a paid book, after some kind of delay, seems reasonable. The people who donated still get the benefit of getting to read them much earlier than they would otherwise.
The update ends with a request not to distribute the content. It is an interesting economic question. In theory, there is no cost to distributing them, but OTOH, everyone who gets the content is someone who liked the comic enough to donate, and thus wouldn't want to ruin future drives by giving away the rewards to non-donors.
So, how trustworthy are OOTS readers .
There are some technical ways around it. For example, you can "watermark" files. This embeds a code in the file in a way that is hard to remove without ruining the file. Each donor gets a slightly different version of the file.
If one is found "in the wild", then it is possible to trace it back to the donor who leaked it, and not give them any more content.
Ofc, watermarks are like captchas, you have people trying to remove them from images and people trying to come up with better ways to embed them in images, so that they can't be removed.

Now that I've had a chance to check them out... seconded.
It feels so weird seeing Small goblins.

So... much... awesomeness. :smallcool:
Now I'm forced to start a new D&D campaign with these. I hope you're happy, Giant. :smallwink:
PS: racing snail? really?

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
By the way, someone has put up on TvTropes that there will be a Book K, should someone go fix that? I thought the Giant stated he wasn't gonna make them a book.

As far as I know, any notion of there being a "Book K" is pure speculation on this point. I don't recall Rich saying anything one way or the other about it.

Artistically, Yellow and blue are compliment colors, and are often found together as compliment colors provide the best contrast in any visual medium. Giant is an artist, and so no doubt chose blue for that reason.

Both the racing snail and the bat mount are reminiscent of Neverending Story.
Rock Biter: We can't wait for a snail. Can I carry you?
Teeny Weeny: Don't worry, it's a racing snail!
Rock Biter: Oh but, but, we can't even wait for a racing snail.
Teeny Weeny: Tally ho! (zips away leaving a trail of dust)
Rock Biter: Hey, it really is a racing snail!
Night Hob: Nobody gives a hoot about me and my stupid bat.

Someone should indeed fix that. I recommend the application of gasoline to TV Tropes, followed by casting Meteor Swarm at it.

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
On my fourth read-through (look-through?) of the minis now. Awesome .

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
I made a simple Index of the PDF (Name -> Page), with later Seasons it could be quite a task to search for something, hope this makes it easier:
A Monster for every Season - Index
If there is something missing or wrong, feel free to edit

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
ok, after breaking kickstarter servers, we broke the upload platform server. any other server we should try? hackers don't need bots to crack down servers: thye just have to put a link to oots stuff.
I haven't looked at the miniatures because, not playing D&D anymore, I figured those who actually play have the right of precedence. But I am quite curious to see

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Hmmmmm, is anyone else not using the coins for the base? I just cut out my first set (the trolls) and they seem to be holding together just fine without them.

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
I literally haven't played in <deletes the embarrassingly huge number> years. But, downloaded these due to the comments.
I'm now looking into replacing the dice bag that got lost moons ago (with a nice, metallic set that just waved at me: I wants a nice, solid thunk). There's something to be said for igniting old flames. :smallamused: Or, even starting new ones.
For those who haven't managed the download yet, have patience: at the very least, the 3 day suspension will be lifted. If Rich doesn't find a better place to park the files first.

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
The minis are just awesome - i can't wait to put them to good use *smile*
Just one thing - there are a number of "Beserker" (p.12 Centaur, p.23+33 Orc) - i think they are all missing an "r"
I wonder if we will get more teams wirth the other season files - like Linear Guild for example. But i would also like another set of the OotS (maybe with a smiling Haley?)
Oh, and while we are at this, any chance for getting a unipeg?

The coins (or washers might be better if you don't want to use change) can help keep them from blowing / falling over if someone opens a door, breathes, sneezes, coughs, turns on a fan, waves their arms in the air, knocks the table, etc. If you are using thick card stock they might seem to hold together fine without coins, but I'd use them just in case...

Rich has posted new links on Kickstarter, in case anyone didn't get the email.

How I hate you all for being already here when the Kickstarter began :'(

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Since I don't want to spend a couple of hours dredging through this thread in detail, can someone please tell me if the "How the Paladin Got His Scar" comic can be bought anywhere? Thanks!

Rich hasn't even made it yet, so most certainly not. Even if he had, it is specifically a reward for Kickstarter backers and will not be available by any legal means for anyone else for a fair while after he makes it, if ever. He may eventually make arrangements to sell it to other people, possibly even along with all the other digital content made for the Kickstarter (some people have started calling this a hypothetical "book K"), but as far as I know he currently has no plan for doing so.

We got lucky, that's all. <hugs>
In time, the goodies might well show up in some form for everybody, later. We just got them a lot sooner, is all. And, most of us'll try not to rub it in. :smallwink:
To be honest, I really hope the minis do: they've got "sales opportunity" written on them in capitals. To convince a speciality publisher (for perforated edges, digital signatures or whatever) to think about it seriously, all our random ravings are all that're needed.

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
These are... frigging sweet! I wish I still played and had a reason to use them, but it's been donkey's years and my fellow players have moved away :smallannoyed:
Would be awesome too if some of these were added to the list of avatars here at the forum - would love to have the War-forged ranger

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
I definitely approve of the selection. One of the campaigns my group is doing currently has us assaulting a fortress. Said fortress is manned by about 36 orcs (we've whittled them down a little) and two trolls... I think that this'll also cover at least two of the PCs. Now I just need to hit the library and print them off on the way to gaming tomorrow.
Now, as to whether we can survive angering an entire module's worth of encounters at once, well, we'll see.
