Weary or not, a person who survives an arrow to the throat can survive a great deal. The elf frowns, she hadn't dealt with these kind of creatures before and that worried her. Using the woman's hesitation she puts back her bow so she could escape in case she needed it. A true hunter knew when to run and when to fight and in this case the odds seemed to be stacked against her.
Backing away, the huntress studies her opponent carefully trying to read things like if she seems in any way encumbered or tired.

Mateo grins, bearing his teeth- his canines are longer than the others, marking him a vampire. He takes up a defensive position, placing his feet carefully on the forest floor and not making any noise as he does so. His eyes glance carefully from the ill one to the healthy one, trying to judge which is more dangerous. The healthy one is obviously dangerous, as his undead constitution has nothing to fear from disease, but the ill one is larger and may have one of those weird diseases that grant unusual abilities.
Since I neglected to describe him, he's got black hair, red eyes, and looks to be human apart from the large claws he has on his fingers. He's wearing a very tattered and stained dinner suit complete with waistcoat, although his feet are clad in steel toe capped hiking boots.

Hmm, seems like someone getting ready for an attack. Well, since Gordon isn't in the mood for just shooting him, Gordon tries to quietly make his way towards Mercutio, planning to deal a beatdown personally.

At the first hint of the grin, both creatures burst into a slithering, loping form of movement that resembles a sidewinder. As the two converge, an odd change overtakes each, one becoming bulkier and more rancid and the other more lithe and healthy looking. By the time they've evened out in appearance, they're close enough for one final lunge, each lashing out with beak and claw simultaneously. At this distance, Mateo can see that their claws are dripping with an unknown substance, milky whitish-green and thick like molasses.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds

Mateo notices the change, leaning back and twisting out of the way as he spins into a low kick, aiming towards bringing the healthy one to the ground or at least hurting a lot- Mateo's strong enough to break a human's bone with that kick due to vampiric strength.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Hill
The light in Mercutio's palms shifts as Gordon draws closer. The sphere of light in his left hand grows elongated, then takes on a curve. A thin string of light stretches from one end to the other. In his left hand, the sphere of light compresses into a long, thin shaft of light that ends in a barbed point. Pressing the shaft to the string and notching the end of it against the thicker portion, Mercutio pulls it back like an ordinary bow and arrow. For a few moments he stands there, legs akimbo, point of the arrow tracking the pterodactyl's movements. But as Gordon begins to ascend the hill Mercutio stands atop of, he can see the devil's goat-like ear twitch.
Suddenly, the devil vanishes in a puff of blue smoke. When he reappears, it is behind Gordon's back with his arrow aimed at him and ready to fire. "I don't know who you are," the devil says in a low voice, "but I have no quarrel with you. Move along."

The lizard lets out a loud, keening cry, and falls backwards. Now Thenadeir can pin it!
Unfortunately, that leaves him in the rather awkward position of being between two angry dinosaurs having just killed two of their friends. The yellow one throws its head back and then leans forward heavily, spitting another bullet out at the warrior. The red one behind him, meanwhile, will try to lash out with its prehensile tongue and grab Thenadier's spear.
Thenadier grins proudly at his triumph over the lizard. He njoyed the kill. a bit too much too... He rips the spear out of the corpse and just manages to use it to block the bullet! The bullet doesn't even dent the spears strange metal. The bullet will ricochet into the forest as it bounces making a loud *CLANG* noise that anyone in the forest could most likely hear. Then, his spear is caught by the tongue. The mildly insane (Mildly being the operative word here) tries to follow the tongue, pointing the spear's tip into the lizards gullet as it tries to swallow the spear, and at the last moment angles the spear to smash up through it's jaw and up its head, most likely piercing its brain. But, the lizard might bite down on Then's arm as he sticks it into the lizard's mouth.

"Well, unless you can suggest someone else who I can vent on, I don't really see a reason why I should go."
Gordon holds his arms slightly apart, ready to whip out one of the weapons he has hidden on his person at a moment notice.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Forest
The healthy one (although it's very difficult to tell the two apart now, barring their positions relative to Mateo) folds around the kick rather than going flying, chittering angrily as its tails whip up and attempt to wrap around the offending leg. The sickly looking one abandons its next claw strike and instead lashes out for another bite, overextending its body to try for an extra burst of speed.
For what it's worth, the kick did seem to bruise its target quite severely, but no evidence of bone-snapping occurred. It seems they're made of tougher stuff than humans.
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Forest
Mateo is surprised at the lack of effect as his leg is grabbed. He doesn't respond immediately, throwing an arm up to block the bite of the ill one. It hurts, but Mateo's used to pain and ignores it. His other hand is headed towards the ill one, fingers held rigid and claws out. Rather than slash, he's trying to impale. The movement is both superhumanly strong and fast, and his fingernails are as sharp as glass.
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Forest
When the bite lands, the ill one's fangs begin to produce suction, trying to draw the blood from the arm greedily. It seems Mateo isn't the only vampire around at the moment.
What's worse is the milky substance its mouth has begun to produce, identical to that dripping off its bladed arm. It happens to be a powerful necrotic toxin, capable of breaking apart cell walls and turning flesh into pools of liquid pus. Whether or not this affects Mateo is up to his player's discretion.
His hand strike the ill one for a glancing blow in the center of its head, shearing off a mass of loose flesh and deeply gouging the bone plate beneath. It reals from the blow as deep brown liquid oozes from the fresh wound over its eyes, blinding it. Somehow it manages not to loosen its grip even as it flails.
The healthy one ducks around Mateo's other leg and aims to draw its blade over the back of his ankle, just above his boot-cuff. It's attempting to hamstring him and deliver another dose of toxin so he will go down more easily.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Desert
Thankfully, between being quite a ways away from everyone the dragon was trying to hit with that frosty breath of doom and the cover provided by their hiding spot, the triplets entirely avoid the explosion of ice, what few crystals reach all the way to the outcropping shattering harmlessly against the rocks.
That leaves them free to make their attack.
They move in unison, each firing a three-round burst of rapidly accelerated lead towards the rather large target the Glacial Dragon represents, ducking back behind cover as fast as they can so that with luck, the dragon will be too distracted with it's other foes to notice them. No doubt they won't remain undetected forever, but it's best to preserve the advantage of stealth for as long as possible. That and hiding behind the boulders makes them harder to hit when the dragon inevitably does take notice and counter-attacks.

Thenadeir manages to deflect a bullet with the shaft of a spear! That's... quite impressive, actually. Sure.
And so Thenadeir is dragged along with his spear, into the red dinosaur's open mouth. At the last moment he twists the weapon, and feels the satisfying crunch as his spear stabs through the dinosaur's palate and emerges out the back of it's head. However, the dinosaur's dying spasms result in it clamping it's rather powerful jaw closed on Thenadeir's arm before dropping limply open. The dinosaur's weight sags against him as the light fades from its eyes.
Only one more. The yellow dinosaur screams in fury, launching itself at Thenadeir with murder in its eyes.

*NOM!*
The creature's prehensile tongue lashes around the poor giant crab before yanking it off its feet and into the monster's waiting maw! The poor crab doesn't even survive long enough to register pain as its body is broken down, its bio-mass absorbed and processed, aaand-!
*POP!*
A white egg with yellow spots plops into the sand, gently swaying back and forth for a moment before hopping into the hand of the creature that just laid it. The strange monster hauls back before hurling the egg at another pair of giant crabs with deadly precision, the projectile ricocheting back and forth between them several times before detonating with considerable force!
*NOM!* another still living crab is yoinked before it can skitter away. Again swallowed, but this time no egg results. Instead...
"Hup!" the strange monster leaps into the air toward a Giant Enemy Crab, determined eyes set upon the beast! It then does an acrobatic flip in mid air, "Boin!" before launching itself toward the Crab at rocket-like speeds in clear disregard for the laws of physics. "HAWT!"
*THOOM!*
A huge cloud of sand billows into the air! Screeches and sounds of rending chitin echo out of the melee within! And when the debris clear the Giant Enemy Crab is left battered, broken, and shattered in an eight foot deep crater.
And the monster that just triumphed over it?
A Yoshi. A Yellow Yoshi, to be specific. Clad is glossy black Buzzy Beetle carapace armor with a Super Mario 3 Inventory belt clasped around his waste. The Yoshi's armored boots crunch across the broken remains of his foe as he stoops down to retrieve his prize.
A melon!
Omnomnom melon! Mmmm...
The adorable yellow dinosaur climbs out of the pit o crab remains and goes tromping off across the beach in search of further challenge, four eggs bouncing along behind him!

Well then, looks like an opponent has just happened to stumble across them as they waited. Jakob motions to the others, and they move as a unit, slipping out of the forest directly into the yoshi's path, and each as silent as a grave.
The five of them, from the mountainous bear of a man to the slight robed girl stand arrayed for combat for a moment before one of them breaks the stillness, assuming the yoshi doesn't move first.
The manic looking teen with twitching fingers and constantly blinking eyes draws a butcher's knife from his belt and charges, holding his tongue silent as he dashes across the sand with his weapon held over his head. The rest hang back and watch for now.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Beach]
As the Yoshi marches along he soon finds himself confronted by five rather unusual foes! Now, it should be clear enough that the Yoshi is an adventurer of sorts. One doesn't dress up in beetle-based armor unless one is planning on facing some pretty serious threats. And that means the Yoshi has seen all sorts of insane opponents.
The guy is from the Mario universe. The place is seriously messed up.
But these?
These look like humans. Like the famous Mario Bros or their love interests.
Though their smell is all wrong...
Quick as a flash the Yoshi leaps out of the way of the charging youth as an egg hops into his hands! The dinosaur hauls back and with a mighty "HUP!" he hurls the projectile at the creepy kid!
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Beach
The creepy kid's face splits into an even wider grin as his companions stand up a bit straighter, a faint glow appearing over each of them.
Then the kid blurs, his form splitting into two distinct shapes above the waist. One is of him raising the knife overhand, poised to strike, which the egg quickly passes through, dispelling the illusion. The real one ducks low to the ground, presenting a smaller profile as he tries to close the last few meters and stab upwards into the yoshi's underbelly.

Thenadier grins. Only one more now! Then pain erupted up his arm as jaws clamped down. The magic bracers under his coat were useful, but there was still a loud crunch as his bones broke, blood seeps out his cot. Well, Thenadier had been healing his other hand with the magic bead and pulls out his magical DL44 pistol he bought from Jurga the Hutt. The interestingly shaped pistol shoots out an exploding bullet which, if it hits, should explode inside the dinosaurs skin. Instantly destroying its insides. :smallyuk:

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Hunting Grounds]
Despite the lack of hitting the kid the egg strikes the ground behind him and detonates with significant force not too dissimilar from having a frag-grenade blow up nearby. Which... would probably still hurt. Even if the egg didn't strike him directly.
That may dissuade the kid. Not really sure.
Though if he follows up on the stab the Yoshi will go "Hneeuuuuur!" and flap his feet and arms wildly! This rather silly maneuver allows him to reposition himself in mid air, deflecting the knife attack with his Buzzy Beetle armor!
Then he drops back to the ground.
And as soon as he lands?
*THOOM!*
A seismic shock-wave ripples through the sand for about ten feet in every direction! The force of the impact may be enough to bodily hurl the kid back a fair distance and leave him dazed and disoriented.
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Beach
The frag grenade detonation hit exactly when the boy leaps upward himself, despite clearly not having leapt at all a split second before that. The shockwave is enough to propel him forward with a small bit of extra speed, which still doesn't save him from the yoshi's deflection and stomping.
Being in mid-air when it hits, the boy is sent careening all the way back to his comrades, covered in eggshell shrapnel and a spreading bruise. His smile has not left his face once, even for an instant.
The dark little girl who's feet he landed at bends over, laying a hand to his brow. A short moment later she's panting, exhausted, and his obvious injuries have sealed over and unbruised.
The large, shaggy brown man with the beard hefts an axe next, aiming for another of the eggs sitting near the yoshi with the intent to break it and render it unusable as ammunition. As the manic boy stands, the yoshi might notice green splotches of light growing from under his skin as his muscle stretches taut. If anything he looks more dangerous now than he did before he was wounded.
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Beach]
Axe-beard hurls his axe!
The Yoshi see's what's about to happen, his eyes going wide! He ducks down quickly, curling up tight as the various plates of his Buzzy Beetle armor lock over each other, shielding him within an armored shell!
*kaBOOM!*
Explosion!
With a surprised "WAAAH!" the Yoshi is sent skidding across the sand at a terrific pace straight toward the mob of maybe humans like a kicked Koopa shell!
Best get out of the way fast otherwise enough of them might get clonked for the Yoshi to earn an extra life!
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Beach
Most of them do manage to get out of the way, except for the roguelike fellow who takes a yoshi to the chin, sending him sprawling into the sand either unconscious or dead. It's pretty hard to tell when his head is buried.
But the twitchy little bastard is already running after the ballistic yoshi, and it seems like the bear fellow is willing to help out. Both are unarmed now, but they look dangerous enough between the two without any weapons.
Oddly enough, the hermit and the tired girl don't seem inclined to help either the blond rogue or their bloodthirsty friends just yet.
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Beach]
Chase that Yoshi!
After skidding a bit further the Yoshi pops out of his make-shift shell and plants his feet, sliding to a stop with a cloud of dust. Hmm, out of eggs. And these guys are either too big to swallow whole or they would take too long to swallow whole. So that means it's time to try something else!
The Yoshi reaches down to his Inventory Belt and pulls out a small pouch!
A small pouch that he then hurls into the path of his foes!
With a rather sizable POOF! a large cloud of puffy, hairy, drifting white spores with eyes are released into the air!
Touch Fuzzy Get Dizzy!
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Beach
Well... crud. The big lug is stopped dead in his tracks by a puffball, stumbling around like a drunken loon without any thought for his own safety. The manic teen manages to pull off the same trick as before, letting the spores pass through afterimages rather than tag him. By the time they reach the hermit and girl, they're probably spread out enough that they're easy to dodge.
The manic kid gets no closer to the yoshi for now, sticking close to the bear man until the effect wears off so they can rush together.
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Beach]
Nothing quite like a cloud of Fuzzies to stop an offensive dead!
The Yoshi reaches into his Inventory Belt again and this time pulls out...
A whole watermelon.
That's red.
And stuffs the thing in his mouth.
Well, that's kind of silly. What's he planning on doing? Having a snack in the middle of a fight? Doesn't he know that these people are trying to kill hi-
*FWOOOOSH!*
A brilliant plume of FIRE races from the Yoshi's mouth, causing the Fuzzies to ignite and fill the air with a sweet, mind-numbing fragrance. It isn't as bad as actually touching one of the things. But the trippy fog may still make life difficult.
Oh.
And the fire might light up the kid and the oaf, too.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Beach
The two take the brunt of the flames, the bruiser shaking off the dizziness through the sharp pain the flames provide. The relatively small amount of dizziness that would be caused by the mist is set aside in the clarity of pain.
Not all that much pain, however. The two seem to have come through it remarkably well, and the reason is only apparent when the smoke clears a bit. A thin coating of waxy liquid has seemingly oozed out of their pores to stop the worst of the fire from harming them, and even now seems to be soothing their minor burns. The glowing green bulges under the boy's skin have doubled, and the bruiser has acquired a set of his own.
They waste no time in starting to run at the yoshi again, significantly closer now. The bruiser is actually in punching range if the yoshi didn't backpedal, and will swing low for the throat with a punch while hurling his head forward with a headbutt in a very difficult to dodge maneuver.
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Desert]
Enola swears as the dragon flies higher. And as the shards start exploding.
She holsters her guns and focuses on dodging now. A few more holes get added to her duster, and she gets some more cuts, but she manages to stay in one piece.
She keeps her eyes on the dragon as much as she can, waiting for another opportunity to attack.
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Beach]
The Yoshi spits out the fire melon in a long arc, sending it sailing over the onrushing attackers and tumbling toward the trio in the back row! Upon striking the ground it'll explode with the force of a bomb and hurl blazing fire melon jelly everywhere.
With a "YOSH!" the Yoshi catches the brute's fist with one hand before leaning back, lifting one foot slightly, and stomping down as he thrusts his own head forward! If there's one place you don't want to be when fighting a Yellow Yoshi it's in melee range. Their Seismic power gained after snacked on some poor innocent animals is nothing short of devastating.
Both stomp and headbutt alike may very well send reverberating shock-waves of power blasting through the bruiser's body to devastating effect. Though the Yoshi may be a bit dizzy afterwards due to using that headbutt.
Now might be the best time for the manic to attack!
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Beach
The stomp is swiftly avoided with some blurringly fast footwork, but the headbutt hits dead on with the bruiser's own, splitting his head down the middle.
When each half-head grows into a massive spade-shaped beak topping a buggy looking head, things get very weird. The thing's twin heads converge, showing little of their body's disorientation as they attempt to stab their beaks through either side of the yoshi's neck. The hand it's holding swiftly transmutes into something more wicked, a barbed organic blade that tries to move enough to slice the yoshi's hand open.
The bulges from before grow more prevalent as the bruiser sheds its human form, losing the other arm and having its legs collapse into a tail as the bulges turn out to be mushrooms of various size. Every area they cover seems to be pulsing with energy, and overall they're allowing the brutish beast to keep fighting long after it should have died.
The manic one leaps at the grappling pair from behind and tries to straddle the yoshi's back, hands reaching forward to claw at the eyes with crazed fury.
The hermit actually meets the flying watermelon in mid-air, tackling it bodily and taking the brunt of the blow. Once again, a waxy film and the sudden sprouting of green mushrooms save him from complete annihilation, even as the now recovered girl cowers behind him.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds

The woman moves forward, and Michi might tell that she seems to favor her right side a bit. Even though she breathes, she doesn't seem tired or overworked by moving so quickly. As for possible weak points, while her armor is quite good, it still has just chainmail and leather in the joints, and her fingers are unarmored. The way she wields the sword will tell her that whatever this woman is, she's well trained, or at least acts like it.
Hilly Plains
The brothers look up in time to see whatever it is, and they shift their stances, getting ready to dart away. They don't move just yet, needing to see what it is and which way it might head first.
Icy Plateau
After he's recovered, What will see a block of ice in front of him, easily about 10ft thick and 15ft tall. In the center is a large silver man. It doesn't seem to move, but it throbs will power, sending vibrations deep into the ground about four times a second.
