[3.5] Attempting to build a Warforged Juggernaut
Now, I look at most optimization questions here on the boards and I find that one of my favorite races - The Warforged, as expounded upon by my Avi - are not commonly mentioned. I was wondering, is there a way to make an optimized Warforged Juggernaut in 3.5?
My group consists of a bunch of semi-optimizers. these are the kinds of guys that the DM sends CR monsters a few above our level as an average encounter because we're built so well, but I'm struggling to maintain that level without devolving into cheese. Because I'm about to make a new character, I'd like to know if there is a way to build him such that he, a warforged, who I wish to have as a juggernaut (though it's not strictly required for this), can keep up with, say, a half-ogre dungeon crasher with knockback.
I'm asking for a 10th level Warforged built that is optimized without being cheesy, to put it simply. Anybody out there who can help?
Re: [3.5] Attempting to build a Warforged Juggernaut
I'm not much of an optimizer, but Pounce is really great. I think you can get it from a 1 level dip into Barbarian using one of the alternate class features, I'll look into it.

Complete Champion, lose fast movement and gain Pounce. Spirit Lion Totem, if I remember the name correctly.
Re: [3.5] Attempting to build a Warforged Juggernaut
Well, one way to get the Warforged Juggernaut a niche is to hack Regeneration on to it somehow. That Nonlethal Immunity it gets then translates into damage immunity (excepting those damage types mentioned in the source of Regeneration, of course). The easiest way I know of is to get the Warforged the Troll-Blooded feat (Dragon 319), though it is probably going to require Flaws to get on a non-human.
Re: [3.5] Attempting to build a Warforged Juggernaut
Doesn't warforged juggernaut mesh well with dungeoncrasher fighter?
So wouldn't a simple Dungeon crasher fighter 6/juggernaut 4 work pretty well?
Possibly some way to get regeneration?
Re: [3.5] Attempting to build a Warforged Juggernaut
so, let me get this organized.
My level 1 feats would be Adamantine Body, Toughness, and Trollbooded (as weird as that sounds), with taking two flaws (possibly Murky-Eyed and Shaky) to get regeneration on a thing that isn't even supposed to have natural healing, then taking dungeon crasher and warforged Juggernaut one my following levels to make a critter that's immune to everything but fire and acid, which I can get energy resistance items for?
Wow. That's pretty awesome
Re: [3.5] Attempting to build a Warforged Juggernaut
Why toughness? And you can fluff the regeneration as the magic that keeps you running automatically repairing you.
EDIT: Ooooh you could even say you were created with troll blood AS the magic that keeps you running.
You are also going to want some way to fly so you can bull rush enemies into the floor.

That would be because Warforged are already one of the better races in 3.5 :smalltongue:
Anyhow, I'm seconding the Dungeoncrasher suggestion but it does kind of make you a one-trick pony. An alternative would be Barbarian into Runescarred Berserker, or maybe try Incarnum Blade.
Re: [3.5] Attempting to build a Warforged Juggernaut
Why bother with flight if you can just stomp them into the ground with powerful jumps? IIRC, Battle Jump from Unapproachable East considers you as charging when you fall on someone, meaning you can turn that humanoid between your shoulder and the ground into a nasty stain with your Dungeoncrashing.
Hrm, I wonder if you can beg your DM into letting you use Improved Toughness instead of Toughness.
Re: [3.5] Attempting to build a Warforged Juggernaut
Wouldn't damage immunity count as cheese?
Have we really come to the point where we don't count that as cheese?

It really should. :smalltongue:
However, it might be the only Warforged Juggernaut class feature that has optimization potential this significant. So if you want to "Optimize Warforged Juggernaut"... well, yeah. =/

Yes they are. :smalltongue:

Well, the immunities are lovely.
Re: [3.5] Attempting to build a Warforged Juggernaut
Improved Toughness counts as Toughness, so it can be a good replacement if it's needed for a prerequisite.
EDungeoncrasher Fighter (either with Warblade levels for Charging Minotaur or Martial Study for the same maneuver) works well as a viable entry into WfJ.
"What is your combat training?"
"Pushing things around."
"Like what?"
"Castle walls?"
Make sure you pick up Shock Trooper, since the WfJ prerequisites make you qualify for it anyway.

What is this cheese you speak of. All I see is intelligent optimization :smallcool:
Re: [3.5] Attempting to build a Warforged Juggernaut
Funny thing about Improved Toughness is that it technically doesn't count as Toughness for purposes of prereqs, though it's a common houserule, I'm told. Normally, a DM might allow it, but when doing something ridiculous like a Troll-Blooded Warforged Juggernaut, I have my doubts...

While perfectly sensible and the way it should have been done, this isn't actually true as far as I can see.

Seriously? That's patently lame, though easily houseruled.
Re: [3.5] Attempting to build a Warforged Juggernaut
I ran the damage immune warforged by my DM. He told me to get something that smelled less like cheddar... so. yeah. any other suggestions? That battle-jump awesomeness appeals

The rest of the suggestions (dungeoncrasher and the like) are still pretty solid.
In a completely different direction, Warforged can make interesting totemists, stacking up natural attacks like Slam and Jaws of Death (or whatever it's called).
