Unpainted mini.

That's the beauty of paint-it-yourself.
You could leave the head unpainted, and have a Wight Roy.
That sounds like a great idea. Why not suggest it to Moreland Studios?
Buying 32 miniatures one at a time would get prohibitively expensive. They might be willing to offer a 32-piece chess set for a total price that's less than the cost of the individual figurines.
As to your choices above:
- Wouldn't a cleric (Durkon) be better suited as a bishop?
- How would the MITD (monster in the dark) be represented as a miniature? A black cotton ball with eyes?
- The knights would be better represented by the fighters in the Order of the Stick, Roy and Belkar, and their Linear Guild counterparts Thog and a kobold.
- Team Evil's pawns are definitely the nameless goblins, not the roaches.
Stilll, it's a good idea.

Yes, the legs-and-feet, the arms, and the eyebrows are metal, while the sword and the head-and-torso pieces are resin.
This was the major technical hurdle that has prevented three other companies from making this product before, by the way. They had all approached me in years past only to not be able to make it work. If it was all-metal, the body would bend the skinny legs, and if it was all resin, the legs and arms would snap really easily. So while it is kind of a pain to have to assemble them, they literally couldn't exist if they were all one material type.
They're not "white" they're just far more brightly lit than the photos I took. But it's literally the same figures with the same paint job.

Giant - I certainly don't want to criticize, especially while you are hurt, but I want to tell you that if you think we will be mad about this, I think you have misunderstood your fanbase. We are genuinely concerned for your continued health and fitness, of course, but we LOVE OOTS stuff to gush over, whether that be comics, books, figures, or whatever. Please, please do not put a 'hold' on a possible revenue stream because of any worry about what we, your fans, may think of your motivations. Almost all of us just enjoy whatever OOTS there is, and any sign that you are continuing to be successful with your IP feels like success for US. Continue to get better, and make hay while the sun shines, brother!
Your fan,
I love the idea of the minis. The eyebrows are hilarious.
I haven't seen anything posted about this idea anywhere else, but another merchandise idea, that I know at least I would buy, is to do OOTS car window decals. I see people driving around with the little stick family decals on the back of their suvs and wagons all the time. I'd buy up some OOTS window decals to throw on the back of my truck's window in a heart beat....just sayin'. :D
Now, all you people that have ordered this -- you had better post pictures of your painted Roys in the future -- I'm assuming people (at least some) will choose alternative paint colors/styles?
You mean like these? http://www.cafepress.de/orderofthestick/8206142
The three faces of Roy were good, but I'd like to try an expression like the one in the first panel here, that truly exasperated expression that only Xykon, Thog, Belkar and Elan can elicit.

Edit: Doh! Ninja'd ... even though I hit refresh right before posting (lowsy IE)
If Belkar doesn't come with a kobold head hat, I shall cry.
These are so cool!
Weee my Roy shipped nov 15th.
Back to camping my mailbox.
My miniature arrived today. It took only 9 days across the Atlantic.
(Now if only Ookoodook would use the same delivery service.)
Somebody down in Arts and Crafts made a full set of OotS minis, but my Google-fu is too weak to find it.
Anybody know what I'm talking about?
There is now a Belkar mini, which includes a Mr. Scruffy mini.

Yes! I just saw this myself while checking. Very cool.
Can someone please point me in the direction of a good web store (that ships internationally) for painting materials?
There was no need to necro, I made a post about that already. :smalltongue:
