Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
This is a thread for hosting any particularly good art I do, as well as entries for the CHALLENGE.
I've been doing OOTS art for the better part of... four years now?
I hope you enjoy. Feel free to make requests, but as some might tell you, I am notoriously bad with schedules. I'm hoping to change that, and a public place for me to be yelled at seems like the best way.
Some of my art (In most recent to older):
Gwendolyn Price (Bleachitp Reborn)
Eirene Klossner (Bleachitp Reborn)
Generic Adventuring Party (For a short-lived custom setting)
Iona (Curse Of Dust - Strawberryman)
Eirene Klossner and Satoshi Tsukami (Bleachitp)
This of course doesn't include everything, but it's a nice start.
About my art: I use InkScape. For some reason in the last year I have started tending towards more muted tones. I often look at a colour and say "needs more gray/brown." I usually draw female characters because they have more interesting outfits.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
Neat stuff. I might try that InkScape sometime if no one posts any trophies for my Spy Wars players. Would you do some please?
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
Well, whenever you're 17 we could have a 17-year-old high-five. :smalltongue: (Or just 17-year-old-five?)
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
I've said it before, your character designs are awesome.
But your "generic" adventuring party has nine members, one of whom is a warforged? :smalltongue:
Do you reuse hair? Because Gwendolyn's looks a lot like that monk's.

Well the "generic" adventuring party is like that of Regdar, Lidda, etc. in the PHB, they were designed to show off the base classes/races of the setting.
Half-Elf sorcerer, Elf Ranger, Human Barbarian, Human Cleric, Human Bard, Warforged Paladin, Halfling Monk, Gnome Artificer, Fungal Elf Rogue.

I do. Hair is a b**** to draw, so I reuse it when I can (with minor alterations)

April 26th, broseph. :smallcool:

Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
That... that warforged is beautiful! *Crys from awesome*
seriously though, Very detailed warforged = excellent
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
That is beautiful, Shades.
Simply beautiful. Especially the hair, I can for some reason not get that right myself.
In fact it's so good it makes me want to join BleachITP, but that would require me to watch an entire Anime series. Not that I wouldn't but It'd take some time.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
I always like your avatars! You are very skillful at making these avatars  I think the clothes are interesting too. You have made me many avatars, so always thank you!
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
Those are goodyou should post something in IA.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery

I have watched 3 episodes of Bleach. I have been in the Bleachitp RP for more than a year. Watching the anime is not by any means a prerequisite.
The Challenge - Week 1
Themes: Cannons, End of an Age, Pinned Down.
For the first piece I decided to go for a new character. Loosely translating cannons to muskets, I figured the punk movement is the end of an age in a sense:
Second verse, same as the first. A little bit maler and a little bit worse.
Third - Went for a bit more goth
Fourth- A bit more technoviking
Fifth- Hastily drawn punk sniper
Sixth- Young wounded soldier

Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
You're really good at this. o.o
I'm loving the flavour of the things you're producing, as well as your style.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
These are great! I love the amount of detail you put into each one.
I'm personally a fan of earth tones - it makes everything fit better together, it's more pleasing for the eye, and it's the better choice if you wanna lurk around hiding before you stab your enemies.

The design is really good (okay, maybe I'm a closet punk-lover, so what? :smalltongue:). The striped shirt is a very nice touch, and I can't believe the amount of detail you put into that gun.
Do you want constructive critique as well, or should I save myself the trouble of annoying you? :smallwink:
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
Constructive Critique is always appreciated.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
Awesome!
I noticed that there's something off about the way the punk girl holds the gun. The centre of mass makes it seem like she would drop it.
On a more general level, your girls look a little (just a little) chubby. Now, I'm all for different body types in fiction, but I wasn't sure if it was intentional, so I thought I'd mention it.
It's minor stuff, but I hope it's useful anyway
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
It's not intentional... and to be honest I still can't see it. If I make the body thinner then the head is too big, and I can't make it thinner (it has to be pretty much perfectly circular) and I can't reduce the size, or it starts to look too small. It's a difficult balancing act.
I can't really see this chubbiness you are talking about...
EDIT: Piece #2 for THE CHALLENGE is up.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
Hmm.... Okay, I've been staring and comparing for quite some time now, and I'm still not entirely sure where I get the chubbiness from, but hey, I owe you at least a shot at explaining.
I'm used to Rich's stick figures, where there's a sway in the back, whereas you draw actual waists (this is a detail I really, really like, btw!)
But I think, maybe, the waist is a bit too high for it too look like an actual waist rather than the last thin point before the tummy starts bulging.
As I said, I'm not entirely sure if this is the reason, but it's the closest I've got. Man, it's frustrating having the what and not the why :smalltongue:
Edit: Oh, and really cool new art! I love the red patch of hair.

Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
Thank you.
Piece of Art #3 is up. I haven't had much time for art lately.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
Very, very nice. It looks a bit odd how she's holding the rocket launcher, though.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
That part was sort of rushed, sadly. I'll probably edit it for when I make the group picture.
Entry #4 done.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
Those are nice. IA is something for you.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
While I appreciate the compliment, IA does not interest me in the slightest.

:smallconfused:Why not?
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
No particular reason. I have participated in the past, a long time ago, and I did not really care for it. Unless a certain theme really interests me I won't be taking part.

Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
The Challenge - Week 2
This week's theme is rag-tag teams.
Entry #1 - The first member of an all-new adventuring party, the paladin. Any suggestions for a name?
Entries 2-5: The full ensemble
Entry #6 - Something completely unrelated that I want to share
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
The first name I thought of when I saw her was "Estellise"
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
I like Sandra for her.
The art is, as always, fantastic.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
I'll suggest Tassel as a name;
Cool art, I always find it interesting when people take the general OOTS style and really twist it their own direction, love all the armour and designs you come up with.
-
Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
CHALLENGE COMPLETED
Adventuring Party:
Solena, Human Paladin; but not a stick in the mud.
Estellise, Human Sorceress. Total ditz, former royalty.
Ruzena, Dryad Druid. Depressed ever since her forest burnt down. Carries around a bonsai tree.
Ito, Human Ninja. Thinks he's a badass.
Artie, Halfling Ranger. Tired of city folk and their flying machines.

Re: Shades of Gray's Art Gallery
I love the style of entry 6. It's cute, and the flavour is just the right level of surrealism.
