Holy crop.
It actually seems to have a budget......
oh wow...
I think I'm going to have to see this.
Would watch.
The irony of this is amazing. A movie about trying to get people to stop talking about an awful game.
Early AVGN is a mixed bag, with profanity replacing actual humour at times. But as times goes on he gets better and better, and the swearing adds to the jokes rather than decract from them - in fact, in later videos he often hangs a lampshade on how much swearing is expected from him. I'd say that 2009 was the first year when every AVGN video was good, but he had many good ones even before that. And I can't think of a bad AVGN video made since then.
As for the movie? Looks pretty fun. It helps that James Rolfe has an actual degree in movie-making and made short movies and videos as a hobby ever since he was a kid.
I am reasonably excited about this. James Rolfe is an icon in internet culture and his AVGN series is genre-making. But I've not always agreed with his "cheap horror" style tastes and bodily functions humour. As long as he doesn't overdo the obviously fake dismemberment and scatology, I will watch this so hard. It seems really legit.
Most series regardless of medium are like that. It takes a brief period of trial and error to get into the groove of things.
So, is he gonna release it for free online, or do you have to buy it on DVD? If the latter, I'm not gonna see it for awhile. I still got to get the Cinema Snob Movie, and I'm a Snob fan.
Fun. Looks like i'll have to make room on the DVD shelves.
Yeah. His reviews get better but as a PERSON, the guy is great. Would love to hang around him If I could.
This movie has been in production for years, so its interesting to see what comes out.
Mostly I hope James can use the movie to propel his indie movie career upwards.
He seems to have a real passion for movies.
Well, I'm not sure if it will be good or bad but... I'm sure I'll watch it. And if it is bad it will be hilariously bad. (Though, I wouldn't expect anything too good)
In general... I like his reviews but... I never really could see his profanity as ironic. I'd say the reviews would be as good or better without all the **** jokes. Much better.
And.. I really have a problem how he criticizes some games just because they do something he doesn't like... Or because he doesn't know how to properly play them. It's not the norm but it happens once in a while. (I'm trying to think of an example... but I fail to some up with something right now.)
Woah there. Spoony is highly opinionated and can be an ass sometimes, but sociopathic scum? Really? You're painting that guy as if he was the second coming of Vlad Tepes or something. He's still nicer than many people on these very boards.
It happens sometimes. Arnold Games and the swear battle at the end of Ghosts'n'Goblins are a good example, as well as alliterative cursing during... Kidd Radd, I believe?
No. There are plenty of reviewers like that (Lord Kat, Movie bob, yahtzee....Though im not sure if he is serious) , But spoony isn't one of them.
If anything, I would call him a poor disease infested, sleep deprived, loveless, sorry person.
The only thing I wish is for him to get better.
He made a few crappy jokes on Twitter. Thats the worst he has done. Outside of yelling 'Betrayal!" after seeing X-Com.
And I preferred his brutal true emotions to Angry Joes subdued fluffnutter.
Reading Extra Punctuation or watching Yahtzee's LPs can clearly show that his Zero Punctuation persona is just a mask, and he's much more pleasant in real life. Heck, he even calls these videos "five minute hate-filled rants". Though he has to stay away from genres he's not very familiar with, like jRPGs, because the ignorance he shows when dealing with them is usually just embarassing.
I got nothing on Lord Kat. I liked his videos but the more I learn about him as a person, the more terrible he looks. He's the only one* who managed to look worse than Spoony during tha twitter fiasco, and that's quite a feat.
* - except annoying parts of Spoony/TGWTG fanbase who took sides and kept fanning the flames during the whole situation rather than letting it die peacefully.
MovieBob is truly the only critic who calls himself the "Game Overthinker" who doesn't think things through.
His opinions are sometimes even hilarious to listen to.
Like Metroid Prime sucks because its a shooter.
And as we all know gory-beat em ups are truly the spearheaders of class in the industry.
You know what internet reviewer should get a movie about them? Harry Plinkett. Who wouldn't want to see a movie about this old crazy murder man?
Nah. I don't think he needs a movie. He already has half in the bag.
Wow. That looks awful. If I were the target market for this, I would be insulted at this being presented to me. I would be even more insulted if I were expected to pay for it.
