Yes, he did. He didn't raise him from the dead because Xykon ordered him not to, mind you--he zombified the corpse instead.

Ummmm... Never mind. Seriously.
No, really, never mind.

Xykon actually did not order his to NOT raise him. He just said that he didn't have the nuts to do it.
Get it right please

It's possible that the remaining Scribbleites will be more than one side. I know so far it looks like it was more or less Soon vs. the rest of them, but of course what we've learned so far would focus on Soon's role in the group.

And does anyone else think it possible (unlikely, but possible) that Redcloak and his God may be seperate sides? We don't know how much of what the Dark One told Redcloak is true, and how Redcloak's priorities may change in the future.

That's correct but Xykon implied another reason for that "nutlessness".
He asked RC if he wanted to live with a brother who knew, that RC has chosen Xykon instead of him.
One of X's strongest moments imo.

Re: OOTS #827 - The Discussion Thread
I counted five possible associations for the title:
* Resistance: crushed metaphorically
* Resistance: crushed literally
* Thanh: crushed personally
* Niu: crushed emotionally
* Thanh: crushed upon by Niu
I'm impressed. :-)

If she had, one or both of their parting words would probably have been "I love you". As it is, it's much more likely that she developed a crush on him now because of his bravery. If she survives, maybe someday she and a resurrected Thanh will have the chance to let that crush grow into something more. :smallsmile:

Kinda have to agree on that. The "secret marriage and pregnancy" theory, as far as I can tell, kind of sprang out of nowhere? I can't see any hints in the comic that could even lead me to suspect this, but it is a theory that I like a lot, but don't find terribly credible at all. I would like to see a rezzed Thanh reunite with Niu in the epilogue, but with the relative rarity of rezzes that have taken place (they didn't even try to rez Shojo, to my knowledge), I'm not so sure that will play out. I really want all the remaining Sapphire Guard to live after the Azure War, and now they're one less in number. Sadface.

I agree. Came out of the fevered imaginations on this forum.

They did try to rez Shojo; he refused to be rezzed.
For rezzes in general, there needs to be someone who really wants the person rezzed, enough that they'll fork out 5000 gp (a large amount for most NPCs) plus having part of the body. Niu may want him rezzed that badly. She may or may not have the money. His body is inaccessible, though.

Re: OOTS #827 - The Discussion Thread
Y'know, after taking another glance at the strip, I'm curious as to why the devils/elementals/whatevers cleaned up the corpses of the humans and elves but leave the body of the hobgoblin spy? :smallconfused:
Maybe RC is planning to display the bodies as proof that the Resistance has been demolished, but he can't display the hobbie? Or maybe the perspective in the panels changed and there has been no cleanup?
I can't remember whether this was discussed earlier in this thread.

Huh. Don't remember that. Maybe it was in a bonus comic in one of the books? I don't have the two middle ones, where that would have taken place. In any event, thanks. That's another thing I meant to say in that, that rezzes are rare both because of the cost and abilities required not exactly being common, and also because of the desire for the deceased to return.

Well, a True Rez would negate needing his body, which is pretty much out of the equation by now, yeah. And with the incredibly high level and cost of that (it's what, five times the cost of a standard rez? In diamonds, specifically?) needed, I doubt that would be very probable at all. Still, though, I can hope.

They didn't remove the bodies. They hung them all around the room. You know, to gloat.

But there wasn't any gloating done in this comic. It was:
a) Kill the last members of the Resistance.
b) Bring down the house.
Or have I gotten completely confused?

Gloating/demoralizing the returning members. As in, not only did he kill the entire resistance, he did it so quickly that he had more than enough time to decorate the base with their bodies while waiting for the away team to return. A blatant show of power, solely for the benefit of Thanh and Co. After sweep-up with last remaining Resistance members, Redcloak was gonna bring down the house anyway, so all other reasons aside, why even bother hanging the last body?
EDIT: All other reasons:
The spy was not part of the resistance, and did not deserve to be lumped in with them.
The spy was working for Redcloak, and deserved some respect.
The spy was a goblin, the species Redcloak is trying to bring up.
The spy was going to be killed, yes, but to keep knowledge at a minimum, and Redcloak was not happy about that necessity.

I dont see any cleanup, just one of the devils happening to still be holding a corpse and the view zooming in on the goblin spy such that the other nearby corpses are not in frame anymore.

I didn't see that scene as "cleanup". It seemed like devils were playing with corpses in a nasty way, or else decorating the room in a manner that pleased them.

What I was referring to was that in panel 7 there are bodies scattered about, including that of the spy. In panel 11, Thanh's corpse is dumped directly next to the spy, and you can also see part of another body. Then, in panel 13, you can see the spy's body but no others. I figure the most likely thing* is just that the perspective has shifted in a bit and the others are out of frame, but it's hard to be sure given that the spy doesn't seem to be any closer to the "camera" than before.
K
*Actually, for me the most likely thing is that it's a nit-picky detail that doesn't matter and so wasn't addressed. I know that if I were making the comic I certainly wouldn't be detail-oriented enough to worry about it.

It's actually cleaning up. I mean like, Redcloak knew that the resistance could be revived (even in slight chance) and needed corpses for soldiers (I can't even dare to think Thanh turned into zombie vampire blackguard or part of giant meat golem) BRRRR!

Re: OOTS #827 - The Discussion Thread
You know, I just realized--Redcloak's Earthquake just turned an entire mountain into a memorial for the Resistance. That's a heck of a funeral monument.

You must be unfamiliar with fandoms. Nothing is ever platonic. Nothing. :smalltongue:

Indeed, I read it entirely as Niu having respect for Thahn being brave, and regretting his death as anyone would a friend and comrade-in-arms. Nothing romantic about it.

Oh, I'm familiar with fandoms. But that doesn't mean I intend to yield my position as the lone (well, nearly lone - good man, Palthera!) defense against the black tides of 'shipping.
Although it still was a serious question, given the relatively tongue-out-of-cheek nature of the comments.
