Streets >> Remnant
Elaine was mostly quiet as they walked the rest of the way. Finally she said, "What did they want?"
Streets
Vinny reaches up to set his hand over his wounded shoulder, keeping himself from wincing, but it's obvious he's been hurt, especially when a trail of blood begins to crawl across his left hand towards the ground. "They'd been following since we left my place." He tells her. "They wanted more than just money most likely. Mebby you."
Streets
"You're hurt." Elaine says and then she starts to shake as the words sink in. Maybe me...
Streets
"I'll be fine, Ma'am." Vinny says, turning his voice to stone and letting go of his shoulder to make a show of him not feeling anything. That doesn't stop the blood from dripping, but he's trying at least.
Streets
"Are we in a safe place yet?" Elaine asks.
Streets
"Safe enough, ma'am." Vinny assures her as they pass the unlabeled marker between Yellow and Blue zone. "And I doubt anyone nearby will be botherin' us after those screams, ma'am."
Streets
Once he says it's safe, Elaine sinks down sitting on the steps of a nearby building, and lets herself break down, shaking and sobbing silently.
Streets
Vinny closes his eyes and gives a small sigh. He takes a quick glance around before taking a seat near the woman, trying to give her a strong presence that she can cling to if she wishes to.
Streets
Elaine leans on him and cries for a few minutes before forcibly calming herself. "We should bandage your wound before we go any farther."
Street
"My shirt is doing well enough, ma'am. I can stitch it when I get home." He reassures her before standing and offering her a hand up. "Lets get you to a place where yous can relax and sleep."
Streets >> Remnant Gates
Elaine is not convinced, but she's not going to challenge the word of someone who is so clearly in his element here on the streets. She stays silent the rest of the way until they reach the Remnant gates.
"Thank you for the escort, and for defending me," she says, and she gives him a kiss on the cheek. "Do you want to leave a message for Billie?"
Remnant Gate
"Just tell her to check in sometime and make sure she knows I'm fine after the scuffle." He tells Elaine with a small smile, thankful for the kiss.
Remnant Gate
"I will," Elaine says. "Thank you, Vinny."
And she'll turn and go inside, to have a long hot shower and scrub off as much of Billie's life as she can.
The Sitar's Strings
That's nothing Zefir really minds. He just wonders where this dislike comes from. You have to know people in his world did simular, but not because they break bones they didn't really want to hold his hand long. If 'Ekkehard' has a magical sense he might feel something odd. Like something isn't right. Somethings seem to miss.
"So what's bringing you here?"
[Wanderin' Through the City]
"Repeeent!" caterwauls a disheveled looking hobo wearing a sandwich board and a paper-bag like a hat. He rings a large bell to get the attention of as many people as possible.
"Repeeeeent!" he hollers. "Repent for the End of Thread is near!"
....
Wait.
What?
What's this crazy guy yelling about?
Probably a-
NEW THREAD!
The Sitar's Strings
'Ekkehard' does have some magical senses; he has the ability to see in the dark, but he cannot detect magic without actively searching and that can be detected. "I can sit here, and drink, look around, and see only humans, no point-ears, greenies, stunties, or anything else in sight." 'Ekkehard' smiles.
Also, 'Ekkehard' isn't human himself.
Remnant Gate => Vinny's Place
Vinny nods and heads off, but on his way back home he stops in a liquor store to buy some cheap booze. He knew he couldn't shake the images and memories of the screams of the men he'd just brutally hurt and that they were likely to stick around for days. At his doorstep he hefted the bag a bit, judging the weight compared to what he knew he had at home.
He might have enough to last a couple days of hard drinking. With luck he wouldn't even remember what he'd just done.
