They're canon.
Apparently all the characters who appear in Star Wars (any Star Wars), no matter how briefly, have canon names. So all the NPC names you've been seeing in the Darths & Droids transcripts are SW canon names.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
All Star Wars characters have names. All of them.
And all the characters in the cantina scene have action figures. Yes.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
I was wondering how they were going to handle this. Of course, Pete's character is supposed to be an electronic espionage and sabotage genius, so it makes some sense, but it feels like a very pointed remark at the original series.
Which didn't exist in that universe.
Kind of meta is what I'm saying.

So business as usual? :smalltongue:

I love it because I always thought it was a stupid and inexcusable plot hole.
-
Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
Pointing out the gaping plot hole of the very first scene of Star Wars? I think the rest of the comic will do just fine. Original Trilogy probably has even more fodder for this than the prequels. Especially after the prequels have been savaged.

There's merchandise whoring and then there's Star Wars.

They do send troopers after them. I just assume they let it go in hope of recovers whatever the Rebels would want so desperately off the ship that wasn't people.

They send troopers after it after determining that the stolen plans aren't on the ship and Vader is informed of the pod, under the assumption that the plans had been hidden in the pod.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
Vader should have axed her that question more "politely".

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
So queens are elected and senator is a hereditary position?
Makes sense to me.

Sure, why not? Come on, if it was the worst problem with the Star Wars universe... maybe they just use different words for those? (Or maybethey just needed a princess in the first movie and... she had to be elected... because... otherwise the people wouldn't love her!)

Not to mention that all sorts of kings were (at least nominally) elected or otherwise confirmed through semi-democratic processes throughout history, whether it was a Saxon English Witen, German prince-electors, the early Capetians, the Polish szlachta at the wolna elekcja, and so forth. Sure, the candidates and electors needed to have the right moral imprimatur (whether by blood or, for the Holy Roman Empire, religious authority for the three archbishop-electors), but there are all sorts of ways historical republics have restricted the franchise as well. It's just a silly argument, though I suppose it's not as silly as the fact that Amidala stopped being queen without dying.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
The "Naboo uses royalistic titles for nonroyal jobs" theory makes the most sense to me.
Before being "Queen of Naboo" she was "Princess of Theed" or "Governor of Theed"- so it isn't just Queen that's an elected job, it's Princess as well.
-
Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
You, know that is actually a point... as far as my limited knowledge of history goes e.g. the the German prince electors did vote for their king... it's just greatly different from what we would consider an election but still...
How a senator can be hereditary I still don't know. (Well, I guess I do but I don't see much sense in it)
As for today... those empire guys were really dedicated to their jobs, weren't they?

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
Didnt the roman senators have hereditary seats? Its been about 15 years since I studied history, so I may be wrong.

I'm totally not sure but I think that was because the wealthy were in senate and the sons of wealthy men tended to be wealthy as well... or because only aristocrats were in it or something.

So basically, like any republic.

Actually, in some ways they had the opposite of that. In order to remain a member of the nobility, a family would have to produce at least 1 senator every generation. In order to become a senator, you had to finish a term in any elected office besides the tribune, if memory serves (mind you, in order to get a higher post, you had to already have served in a lower post.)

My guess is that Queen is sort of an artifact title. What was at one time a monarchy has evolved into a more republiacan form of government, and the office was heavily altered but never entirely done away with.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
Wow. Every screencap of that meaningless lackey was prefect. The strip had me cracking up the whole way through.
-
Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
Agreed, Vadar has definitely found himself some lackeys that can be counted on. I just love the whole resigned acceptance to death. "Ill join the queue."

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
Wow, Vader is even more likely to kill than in the films. Glad to know his underlings know that.

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
So this is just the DM speaking to himself at the moment? That's... kinda weird. I mean, I know this is a scene in the movie that needs to happen, but none of the PCs are around to listen in, are they?

Yeah, I was also windering about that... I guess it's just for the sake of having these scenes in. Maybe the PCs are allowed to listen to know what kind of a person Vader is.

Wait..
Is Ben dead?
:smallfrown:
So sad...

Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
Maybe he went to college and can't play anymore?
-
Re: Darths And Droids 2: Should've Gone to Naboo
I wonder if he'll return (maybe on holiday?) to play Old Ben Kenobi.

R2-D2: No! I never—
C-3PO: You go that way! Find your stupid dreadnought!
GM: Uh... maybe we can stop here for tonight.
C-3PO: No! We keep playing! Ben would have wanted it that way.
Sally seems pretty upset about it. And 'He would have wanted it that way' is something most used when talking about dead people.
Let's ask DMM, if he's still lurking around here, waiting for a chance to spoil the entire comic for us...:smallwink:

We are talking about Sally, for a younger sister who adores her big brother, having him away from home for long stretches of time would be pretty much like him being dead to her.
