Re: [Nexus] Council
For just legal purposes and appearances, Grace does ask that everyone but the Council members leave the room.
It wouldn't take too long, hopefully.
"I very much agree that Phil is suspect in this, but I think putting him on trial this quickly may be... rushing things, at best. No investigation has taken place, and we have very little evidence. If we put him on trial now, all we can really say is 'well, it sure looked like he did it.' I can't argue on that kind of evidence, or rather, lack of evidence.
"I advise that we take some time to actually put together a case for our argument."
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
"I'm unsure how legal practices work in here. We usually let the celestial handle all the convictions with an mortal jury. Your request seem sensible however. The event may be all too recent for some of us anyway which might cause this to be about some type of misguided vengeance. You have my support at least Grace." Cessie replies.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
((IC, I agree, but OOC, I think TS wants to proceed with the storyline.
Of course, IC, I don't have a character on the council, so x.x))
In the other room, Delisle makes a call to get sammiches and sodas delivered.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Yeah, I know. Would it be more convenient for you to just be able to call on some of our members for the really big threats? In addition, there are a few members with military experience who have lower powers and egos, who could liaise with Remnant more directly, if you would let them join a squad. Tobias chuckles. Vasquez, most of my members know nothing about the Empire, much less you. I'd be highly surprised if there were any big biases against you. I'll make sure that they obey you unquestioningly.
Back in the meeting room, the Tobias plotclone clears his throat. Here's an idea: why don't we question Phil first. If we feel that he might possibly be guilty, then we formally indict him. Once indicted, we take a week or so to gather evidence before the official trial.
FF doesn't know much about legal stuff, yet, but he is reasonably sure this is a legal thing. Probably. Is John Grisham a legitimate source? :smalltongue:
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Vasquez nods to Tobias, in the meeting room. The latter speaks up first. "He claims he has proof of his innocence, so if we let him show it to us now, we might not even need a trial. Whatever we do though, we need to do it quickly, my mother is still missing, and I'm not going to sit idly by, doing nothing." She says, finally letting the others know that she has a personal stake in this.
In the Alternate room, Vasquez shakes her head. "If you can give me a list of your members and their backgrounds and contact information, I'll draw up a list of names for liaisons."
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
"I would be quite willing to do a preliminary questioning of him. It would serve a number of useful purposes if conducted correctly."
Grace says calmly.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Raz accepts being shooed out with Moff and Psi, and leans against the wall outside.
Bleh. This sucks
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
"Go ahead, I trust you can decide for yourself which are the appropriate actions to take in this trial. You don't really have to ask us for each step Grace even if I appreciate the forethought." Cessie replies.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
"My reason is that I'm representing the council for the moment, rather than being part of it. Essentially, I can only work with what I am given. But now that I have at least some consensus, yes, I will go ahead. I believe I will conduct my interview privately with him. It will feel like less of a judgment passed on him that way."
Grace gives a bow, then heads out to the others, where she will approach Phil.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Not in Council Room
Delisle scratches out a name and address on a piece of paper and hands it to Raz. "Make yourself useful then. Mrs Vasquez lives at this address and has been missing since the event. How about going and searching the area?"
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Sweet.
Raz pushes off the wall, taking the paper and skimming it quickly
Oookay. Could be fun. Thanks babe.
And he zips outside the building, heading to the location
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Raz gets a very dirty look for the "babe".
Mainframe will accompany Phil to the interview with Grace, which presumably will be held in one of the private conference rooms.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Gordon sighs, and takes out a crossword puzzle.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Erin puts up no objections to being hustled out of the room.
Quinn rubs her temples and sighs.
"Just when I thought I was free of in-charge work," she mutters. "I can attempt to psychally search for your mother, if you wish," she tells Vasquez.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
[Council Room]
If I may interject, Dipsnig speaks up, doesn't the message that be broadcast - using hijacked transmissions, I might add - count as evidence?
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Council Room
"Evidence of different crimes, which he will be charged with. I have someone compiling a list of other charges for me at the moment. So far, it's...extensive." She tells the Council. She shakes her head at Quinn. "Someone is being sent already."
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
"Very well. My offer stands, though," Quinn says with a smile.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Outside, Psi does not look very happy about having been told to leave. This is a whole load of information she will not be able to gather! What gives?
"Logging. Complete. Now terminating Data Gathering Mode."
She leans on the wall. Is there really much point to staying here, waiting? "Analyzing. Probability indicates remaining at current location could become wasted time. Determining best course of action. Remaining is suggested."
And then... she stops talking. It looks like she's weighing the pros and cons of her own suggestion.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
"There will be further information to gather once Grace returns," Delisle suggests to Psi. Of course she may not get that, since she isn't in data gathering mode.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
"Logging. Loading Human Interaction Mode. Loading. Complete." Psi turns to Delisle.
"It is unsure whether this information will be available to us. It may be best for us to leave. There are more sure ways of gathering information."
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
"I recommend staying, but the decision is yours to make," Delisle says. Psi is not her subordinate, so she won't try harder than that to influence her.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
"Understood. Setting alarm. Alarm set. Loading Hibernation Mode." The girl sits on the floor, then lays down, next to the wall.
"Shutting down all except for main systems. Shutting down. Now entering Hibernation."
She closes her eyes, and falls asleep.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Erin watches Psi with an air of curious interest.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Phil claps his hands-well, as much as one can clap when cuffed.
"Thank you, Mainframe, you'll work just fine. And I didn't hurt anyone, especially not any GLoG members. Now, let's get this interview over with."
Now, if Phil could hear about the transmission interference, he'd bring up how the signals in Inside have been hacked so many times that regular programming is a blessing for NPCs at this point, and that nobody's ever been arrested or charged for it.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
The Moff woulda attempted to take a swipe at Raz's flask, but with him gone, there appears to be no easy source of hooch in the vicinity. Curse your lack of foresight, Moff! He pulls up a chair and pulls out a book: looks like an ancient, beat-up paperback of Welcome to the Monkey House.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Everything else being taken care of, Grace finds Phil (who had been moved outside while she addressed the council, of course), and gives him a smile.
"Phil, I've been chosen to represent the council, and after consulting them, I've decided I would like to conduct a short preliminary interview with you before we commit to a trial or heavier investigation. Is that alright with you?"
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
"That works just fine," Phil says, looking rather enthusiastic about the whole thing, "I can't wait to prove my innocence to you."
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Council Room without Phil
Vasquez finally gets the new list of charges and blinks a few times in shock before a plan comes to mind and she folds the sheet, waiting for the interview to get over with.
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Grace will find a quieter area to discuss things with Phil, and then begin.
"I hope you can understand why you've been brought here. Even if you're innocent, the circumstances are pretty badly weighed against you- you make your speech, a giant object falls from the sky at the same time on a related area and it explodes quite spectacularly. I've no intention of leaping to conclusions, but you're a very obvious suspect, and it's best if we investigate your potential involvement.
"Of course... this is Nexus. Strange things happen, and for all we know, it could have been a time traveling evil clone out to make you look bad. So I've encouraged the Council to give you a bit more benefit of the doubt, and try and work with you to investigate and find the real culprit."
She smiles encouragingly.
"Now, you said yourself that you have some evidence for your innocence. Why don't we start there?"
-
Re: [Nexus] Council
Mainframe is in the room with Phil, one hopes, as it would be unfair to question him without his counsel present.
I can advise you that you are not required to provide any answers that may incriminate yourself. Of course, any non-testimonial evidence that you are in possession of is required to be produced. Mainframe says. Of course it downloaded a data module on Hollywood Law so it all sounds very official.
((I should also note that Mainframe's player has an extensive legal education consisting of one course in Insurance Law that she never passed. :smalltongue::smalltongue:))
