That said, I use the same colour scheme. :p

I painted a Chaos Spawn the other day with one of those heads that has the Khorne symbol sticking out of the cranium. While it is obviously meant to be painted as metal (it has rivets and straight edges) I'm not sure I like that idea. Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative that might look good and still make sense?
Any kind of CnC is also welcome
Bone, perhaps? With nails in it? Make it a crest, like on some birds/dinosaurs.

I would have painted the helmet red and just had the skull in the center look organic. Though otherwise you could just re-do it as a horn like colouration as though Khorne had blessed the spawn with his symbol.

I'm trying to decide on how to do heavy weapons servitor conversions for a Dark Mechanicum themed project and I can't choose between converting raveners and using tracked units.
It's been a really busy week, but I've been able to squeeze in some more painintg.
First up is a continuation of my pirate diorama. I finished sculpting the base of the waves, painted them up, and put down the first layer of water effects. It's going to take a few more layers to get the look I want... not to mention what I'll have to do to make the white foam on the waves.
Spoiler
Here is the basecoated pirate mini for the dio. I'm painting him in the school colors of ECU- this project is a gift for my brother-in-law. He's an alumnus of ECU and a fanatic for their football team.
I've also started yet another gift project. I have a cousin who has been a part of my D&D group a few times. Each time he has played an archer, so I'm painting him up the elf archer from Dark Sword miniatures.
I wanted to do something really different and came up with an idea I call the Autumn Hunter. I've painted up his cloak to be autumn camo and will be painting the rest of him in a similar palette.
Did some more work on the ocean cliff base. I haven't decided on the foam/breakers. from some angles they look really good, but from others it doesn't look nearly as good. I'm wondering if I should just do a thin coat of water effects over them, or are they good enough as they are?
Spoiler
I've also been testing out some colors on the autumn hunter, trying to decide what I want. I like the ochre tunic, so I'm going to smooth out the blending on that. The undershirt is going to change from grey to a light green. I'm still not sure what color to do the pants.
You should try to find a way to make a part of your stone more shiny; like they are still wet from the water. A gloss, perhaps?
Otherwise, I love your water effect. A lot. It's extremely convincing, and I currently sense a bit of jealousy rising
Crazy time with the recent passage of Thanksgiving followed by a seriou cold that ran through my entire family. I've finally been able to work on some more minis and take pics.
First up is the finished water for the ECU Pirate. I added another coat of water effects, which really took care of most of hte problems I had with the creamy looking breakers.
Spoiler
Next will be finishing the pirate himself, along with some decorations for the rock.
Last week my Pathfinder party I DM for discovered a strange sight- an abandoned hunting lodge filled with Ettins and Ogres who were living an oddly civilized life. They discovered a black dragon was ruling these giantish oafs and was using them to try to carve out his own little province. So, here's the black dragon- this is a VERY WIP pic- he may have died to the party, but the mini is far from finished.
Spoiler
There's a lot more I want to do with him... I think I alreay said that.
In the next session the party is going to be facing, among other things, a summoned earth elemental. I'm painting up the excellent sculpt from Reaper's Bones 1.
You can see where there are a few finished stones, but most of him is still very unfinished. He just finished drying from the brown oil wash I applied. I've got a lot more rock effects to paint, as well as all of the crystals. He's also going to have uncut gems for eyes- a ruby and an emerald.
Spoiler
I'm also trying to think of what I want to do to base him. I'm thinking about doing a flagstone floor with glyphs carved around the edge, indicatng a summoning circle. His right fist will be pounded into the floor, which will have splintered under his blow. That's my first thought, anyway.
Well, I've decided to buy no more Space Marines until I have 10K points painted. I have way too much stuff and not nearly enough of it is painted.
I'm painting yellow.
I have no airbrush.
Wish me luck.
I find that if you use a white undercoat, you bypass a whole lot of steps that needs to get done over a black 'coat.
White undercoat.
Straight to Flash Gitz Yellow. Maybe three coats, but I get by with two on most models because of the next steps.
LINE with Seraphim Sepia/Lahmian Medium. I know it's a wash. But you need it even thinner than that, otherwise clean up is a pain. Put simply, once you have the Yellow coat on, don't touch it! I've seen images, and this step works better with Drucii Violet, but any spillage onto the yellow armour can really botch it up...But, it's a wash, so if you're quick you can probably stick your brush in your mouth immediately and then wipe away the purple.
Edge with White Scar/Lahmian Medium. Again, it's a layer paint so it's thin already. But even thinner because you don't want to be blinding people who look at your model - unless you do want that.
Finish up with Lamenters Yellow to tie the white together and for more yellow on yellow highlights. Easy. With Lamenters Yellow you no longer need to infinity coats of yellow paint to make it good.
I finally ended up getting back into painting after quite a while. I painted one of my pre-heresy apotecharies. While it still needs some weathering/battledamage/mud/dust/other little details, I'm happy.
Can anyone give me some tips on getting a smooth finish on tanks when using red? I keep getting visible brush strokes left on mine.
Perhaps your paint is too thick- thinner paint is better and less likely to leave brush strokes.
What size brush are you using? For something large like a tank a larger brush can give smoother results as you will be less likely to go over the same area multiple times.
Are you using Blood Red over a black undercoat? Or just a bright red at all, over a black undercoat? I find that black undercoats are just never worth it.
When I want to paint bright - which is all the time - I use a white undercoat.
When I want to paint darker colours, I use a grey undercoat, because that way the accent marks on a black model (which are usually bright - i.e; Black Templars' white shoulder pads) can still be done without too much hassle. Especially because you need to paint black over the black undercoat anyway.
I am in fact using a dark red undercoat followed by a blood red layer. It works well on my berzerkers, but I can never get good results on my tanks. I've tried white basecoats before and got the same problem as I'm getting now, though more pronounced due to the lighter shade. I keep getting streaks running in the last direction I painted.
Sweet Emperor's Teeth! I've just had a play with an airbrush and it took longer to clean the thing that it did to put a base layer on 10 horrors!
A+++, I'm so very happy I've found this early in my hobby career as opposed to after I'd finished painting a whole bunch of models.
Also, see below for my very 1st finished unit (well, mostly, still have to base it).

I'm reasonably pleased with how they turned out, but I'm still thinking it's missing something at the tail, maybe a brighter red? Either way, I can't see them getting changed anytime soon. The fangs/bone protrusions all have a gloss coat on them that doesn't show up terribly well in the pictures, as do the eyes. They look much better in person than in the photos.
I really liked painting these, and love the models to bits. Finishing off some more horrors and 2 squads of thousand sons, with 4 spawn base coated (they are heaps of fun to put together too). Sorceror and herald still to put together, then a Pair of forge fiends, a deamon prince and a soul grinder still to buy. Still waiting on forge world thousand sons doors before assembling the 2 Rhinos I won a while back.
Constructive criticism?
I like the color scheme you're running with there and you've got a good clean paint job on it (something I have trouble with more than I care to admit). My only thought would have been to blend a bit of purple into the transition area (may be there but just not picked out in photos) but that's one of those techniques that has to be done well or it can look sloppy (and I still haven't quite gotten the hang of wet blending well myself). The red you used is a good shade and I would avoid going brighter (would be too much like khorne and despite what the new book says, Khorne and Tzeench are enemies, not Tzeench and Nurgle, Rot is a type of change after all).
I can't really tell from the photos but it looks a little like the one with the back tails is a little flat on some of the detail (could be light washing it out a bit though). I've always been a fan of drybrushing with lightened shades of the basecoat and then washing back over with the basecoat to shade everything back (it's a simple technique to be sure but it makes some models so easy to paint).
Honestly though I like the paint job and would compliment you on it at a tournament setting. The real catch is that every painter will always look back at a model and think "you know if I'd done X instead there it'd look a lot better". You just need to get a unit where you like the look of it and then move on to the next one and if this is your first army then I'd have to say you're doing better with it than I did with mine (my tau are on iteration 4 or 5 of Paint, look, strip, repeat and I still don't have a fully painted tourney list despite having somewhere around 6-7000 points of models)
Thanks Ishikar.
I've still got enough models to paint that it'll be quite a while before I go back to them, and seeing as how much I enjoyed painting them, I'd probably just buy/assemble/paint more rather than redoing these ones.
Horrors are almost done, but I don't like how they've turned out. I can't seem to get the hang of dry brushing their muscles, and went a bit overboard with the druiichi violet wash. Still, looks better than white primer. Agrellan Earth is the business for basing, especially with a bit of colour on the base beforehand.
Thousand sons are base coated with macragge blue, but the sheer amount of work to be done on them is enough that they won't be done for weeks, even if I didn't have to go overseas for work for weeks at a time.
So! I recently got pulled into the hobby by my band-mates. I used to paint a little when I was a young teen, but that is a long long time ago.
Please keep in mind that I more or less just started the hobby, so I'm probably making a bunch of newbie errors. That being said, feedback is much appreciated

Very nice work. Word Bearers if I'm not mistaken. The corruption seals could do with a touch of work but otherwise it's very good.
Those models look a heck of a lot better than MY Word Bearers!
So I want to do my first attempts at kitbashing and conversions, Necron player. To save myself some money (and because I'm not a fan of most of the Finecast stuff) I'm planning on making my Royal Court (Lords and Crypteks) out of repurposed Immortal/Deathmark and Praetorian/Lychguard boxes. I know what bits I want to use and what not, but my biggest consertation right now is Green Stuff.
I've never used it before (though I procured a package some time ago in preparation for this type of thing), and I want to make sure I'm not fumbling with it too much. Are there any good tutorials on using it effectively, especially for things like cloaks?
So! I need advice! I recently bought a Resin model for my chaos lord, and while I have cleaned it as the internet suggests, I am left somewhat at a loss for what to use to prime it. Noone seems to be able to agree. Can I use standard chaos black GW primer for it?
That's what I use on my resin figs. Just be careful not to overdo it and you'll be fine.
Here's the miniature in question. Guess I'm gonna have to fluff in some mutation and special power armor what with him towering over the rest like that :p His heresy brings all the daemonettes to the yard.
I just finished my Silver Helm models!
Please excuse the lack of different angles for my Silver Helm squad. Let's just say this morning's winter winds was not cooperative and almost blew them into the snow...
Spoiler
I also have finished a Giant Eagle part of my Lothern Skycutter model...
Spoiler
I like how I did the feathertips on my eagle..
Hi, I know this is primarily for Warhammer, but is there anyone here who knows of good miniature webstores that ship cheaply to Western Europe and offer Malifaux?
I know it ain't a warhammer model, but I don't care. ;)
Here's the barbarian lady I just finished painting...
