Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
When Elan gains a level at the very beginning of the strip he sings about his 6 new skill points... Bards get 6 + intelligence per level, plus he is a human which gives him an extra. So his intelligence is either 7 or 8.

He got 6 new skills points because of the transition from 3.0 to 3.5, not because he gained a level.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
As I was reading the first bit where Xykon makes his first appearance where Elan gives the explanation about why they are in the dungeon. I realized that when you read things, you don't think about the pronunciation. So how do you pronounce Xykon, like csykon or zykon.
And on a side note, the dungeon of dorukon exploding looks just like Soon's gate exploding.
Dorukon
Soon
And on a further side note, the self destruct rune looks like it was cast by Giriard, it is purple after all. So maybe the dungeon didn't really explode.

It's pronounced like a Z. (zEYE-con) There's a joke about it in one of the comics where someone says Zykon in the speech bubble. Another character points it out, and the first character can't work out how they could tell the difference. (I can't remember exactly who says it. It might be in SoD.)

Hey, that's pretty cool. It's not exactly the same, but considering how the art style has developed since then, it's similar enough.
Similar sound effect aswell. <checks SoD> And same again with Lirian's Gate.

Pronunciation is one of the first things I think about. To each his own, I guess.

Maybe it happens in the main comic too, but it definitely occurs in SoD. Several times. The characters that do it are

Right-Eye and Lirian. Xykon corrects them both. The elves who try to scry on Xykon for Lirian make that mistake too, but no one ever corrects them.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
I realize that he's probably pronounced with a "Z", but I still tend to think the name the way it would be read in Czech.
@turkishvan2, CaptainIreland - I also don't think of pronounciation when reading. Sometimes, when I show something with weird names to somebody else, they ask "How do you pronounce this name?" and I'm always like "I have no idea. I never pronounced it before."
This goes for some real names as well, as long as I don't hear them pronounced anywhere.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
In the ninth panel of strip 662 it looks like Xykon might be casting a spell. That dark gray matches his spellcasting aura and isn't visible in any other panel in the strip. What he might be casting, though, I don't know.
And since it came up earlier here, and I'm a science nerd, you get your genes for male pattern baldness from your Mother's Father.
Also, I always interpreted the first panel of strip 696 to mean that the gates have a distinctive sound when they explode. Which doesn't seem to be too much of a stretch to me, and would explain why they ones we've seen explode so far have used the same sound effect.

When magic casters get pissed they seem to automatically have magic in hand, like a reflex making of a fist. My personal theory is that it is magic that hasn't been turned into a spell yet, but just the energy of it.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
I noticed that Redcloak has a problem with left and right.
At first he orders the zombies left and the goblins right, but apparently he mixed them up.

So it seems!
Unless they were facing the same direction as the Oots are later when he said that. There's no sign of the dais that Xykon and Redcloak are on in the revelation scene...

I didn't figure it out until we started seeing nale more around strips 350-400ish.
EDIT: Also I didn't notice "Dewey Decimal System STRICTLY ENFORCED"

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
I think the guards who question Haley here are the same as the palace guards here
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
They're all guards that work for the Empire of Blood, if that's what you mean. :smallconfused:
There's certainly nothing to indicate they're the exact same people. I don't see any obvious skin tone match-ups.

All ill people have wobbly speech balloon tails, and Malack has been described has needing special food and other stuff implying he's sick.

Malack is explicitly in "frail health" according to this one. FWIW, I guess I'm late to this convo.

It would be interesting to know how long she had been sitting there. Tarquin said some sensitive things... Though I guess she had speaken up already if she had heard (and understood) what Tarquin was talking about.

She would probably have taken actions by now if she'd heard them. She's just stupid and not listening.
