Neither Zee nor Kara were here.
The first wasn't surprising. But...what happened to Kara?
The mage gives a frustrated little yell.
"Has anyone seen what happened to the silver-haired girl?"
If someone ate her, he's busily pondering how to make them regret it.
Niara saw.
From her seat way over the other side of the room, she had watched the scene unfold from a distance. She'd seen Zee dissolve, and Kara retreat to the door.
And, of course, she'd noticed the earthquake too. The shaking had knocked the bottle of wine Zee had gifted her from the table, and in an attempt to catch it, Niara had fallen too, and bashed her head against the floor. Though she wasn't knocked unconscious, it did dizzy her, and she did not up and leave like most of the others had. Instead, she leaned back against the floor and waited for the world to stop spinning.
Xeni's shout rouses her. She shuffles out from beneath her table, then stands with a giddy wobble. Her white jacket is streaked with the spilled wine.
Good luck getting those stains out, Niara!
"She ran outside." A finger is pointed helpfully at the doorway.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Okay.
Running outside is better than being eaten.
Maybe.
Outside isn't a very safe place right now.
Xeni rubs his face and mumbles several nonsense words that never have and never will mean anything.
The world's ending.
His niece/daughter is missing in a city collapsing into madness.
That lady over there looks a little out of it.
Checklist made.
"Alright. Thank you."
Easy thing first.
He slides over to her, finger twitching through a pocket.
"Are you hurt, or just a little tipsy?"
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
"Oh, no, I only had one glass before it spilled." Which is, incidentally, what she paid for. "I hit my head, that's all. I'll be fine."
She might have a mild concussion, but she seems more stable on her feet already. She takes a moment to press her fingers against her eyelids, to help clear her head.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Xeni extracts an ice pack from his pocket!
Which seems a rather odd thing to be carrying around, but he is.
It is held out to Niara.
"Well, use this then, see if it will help a little.
I'm going to go hunt down my niece, do you need anything?"
Hates just leaving helpful people out on their own.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
The pack is taken with a nod of thanks, and applied to the affected area. Quite why he has it is not questioned.
"I'll be fine," she repeats. "I don't suppose you could use an extra pair of eyes though?"
She didn't have much else to do, after all. The tavern was all but deserted now.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
With the earthquake over, Raril crawls out from under the table and dusts himself off. "Nine hells..." the drow mumbles. "What is going on?"
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Xeni gnaws on his cheek a little and peers out the nearest window.
"I wouldn't refuse them, but it's not exactly pretty outside. Can't promise any safety."
A star might fall out of the sky on them, or extra-dimensional freaks.
Or a zombie petunia army bent on overthrowing the proper world order.
Raril is alive!
"Zee woke up and is preparing to break things, that's what's going on."
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
The drow blinks. That... wasn't good at all. Like, really really bad.
"I've got to find her." he decides, before running for the door.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
A certain small black kitten, having gotten no response to its clear and thoughtful meow, hisses in annoyance and hops down from the table it was standing on.
The little cat will attempt to follow Raril out the door! Because that drow looks like he knows what he's doing. Also, it wants to eat his face in revenge for having a certain nymph daughter. Though this aspect of the adorable little kitten is not very clear. :smallmad:
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
"I can't say I've ever visited the Nexus expecting 'safety'."
That would be a silly thing to expect.
Raril's appearance is met with a concerned look from Niara, before he rushes off!

"kitty! come back kitty! kitty need naptime! zee said so!" Baby calls, trying to catch THAT CAT and try and pet it into submission.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
THAT CAT is caught! It's plan to follow the drow and get vengeance is foiled! It is most unhappy with this, as it's frantic struggling signals.
The cat's head and tail then displace each other, turning the cat around in an instant, and it hisses and spits into Baby's face. Each small drop of spit is acid, though it isn't actually a torrent of breath weapon as a dragon or its later forms would have. Just a regular amount of kitten saliva. That is highly acidic. :smalleek:

Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Garrett stands there, paralyzed, by surprise, until the earthquake knocks him over.
"Aw, ****e! This...this is not good. This is not good at all. Erm...everybody stay calm...Yes, sir, it is wise to listen to the 16 year old right now...just stay calm...and I'll go get the Order and...argh, f*** it! Just do whatever, I'm going to go find out what the heck is going on!""
And Garrett rushes out the door!
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
"owie!" *pet pet pet* "kitty spit hurt!" *pet pet pet* :smallfrown:
Baby tries to stuff THAT CAT under one arm while petting it, carry it to the kitchen, and start feeding it salmon. "kitty like fishy? yummy fishy?"
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
THAT CAT writhes and spits and hisses and scratches in utter hatred of its treatment, but is still partially trapped in its small kitten form even though the abomination inside is fully awake.
When Baby tries to feed salmon to it, the cat simply hisses in fury again at the dwarf's insolence and reanimates the fish, reconstructing their entire bodies and giving them life. So now there are probably a few live salmon flopping around now. :smallconfused:
THAT CAT will reanimate the stores of hambacon next. :smalleek:
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Suddenly, salmon! That isn't really something you expect to happen. :smalleek:
Baby drops THAT CAT and the flopping, suffocating fishies. "gah! bad fishies! be dead again!"
Don't worry, Baby! That shouldn't take long to happen.
THAT CAT has a chance to escape!
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Baby is quite lucky Trog's doesn't serve dragon steak like the Black Dragon's Den. Or else everyone would be in quite a bit more trouble.
THAT CAT springs away from Baby, and runs straight for the door. It doesn't like the tavern anymore! The kitten will, if it gets to the door, jump right into the closed wooden obstacle and simply go through it like it were open. :smallconfused:
There is now be a pig loose in the kitchen as well as some salmon. :smalltongue:
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Baby is busy chasing a pig around the tavern. Presumably the salmon are busy dying.
THAT CAT escapes. Oh noes! :smalleek:

Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
A small *bump* on the door signals Mychasi's arrival. In his eagerness, he swooped straight down and forgotten how heavy the door was.
After a quick transformation, the dragon-turned-youthful-boy pushes it open and steps inside.
His first instinct is to do a quick spot-check around the rafters. There appears to be nothing up there... that's good. It puts him more at ease as he steps up to the counter, ignoring the sound of squealing pig and floundering salmon.
He had bigger fish to fry.
The plate that Zee had given him brownies from last time is right where he remembered it. There were a few left there, but not enough to fill a well, surely?
Regardless, he plucks one from beneath the glass dome.
They smell... delicious.
But they are not for eating. No sir-ee.
Now... where's that well?
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
There's a well right in the middle of the floor.
One of those stone wells with a crank on the side and a little roof and a bucket. Like a wishing well. The thing was most certainly not there when he came inside.
Kind of like that little half-drow girl sitting up in the rafters kicking her feet. She wasn't here when he last looked either. She doesn't say anything, though her expression suggests that she's rooting for him!
Several patrons glance over at Mychasi, watching him drunkenly.
Because... y'know.
Most of the people here are drunk.
Trying to make the pain and madness go away.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Mychasi goes up to the well, carefully stepping around one of the reanimated salmon, and holds the brownie over the edge.
Then, he lets it drop.
There, that wasn't too hard, was it Mychasi?
Only... a great many more brownies to go.
He starts ferrying brownie after brownie to the well, one at a time. One imagines it might be easier to take a handful and get it done quicker, but Zee sounded very particular about her instructions. He didn't want anything to go wrong.
As for the drow girl, he does his best to ignore her along with everyone else in the tavern. That way, people would be less inclined to talk to him, and he could make faster progress.
Plus, he's having a teensy bit of trouble remembering what he has to say if they do.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Should Mychasi look as though he's planning on picking up more than one brownie at a time the girl in the rafters will give a little gasp, biting her lip and looking apprehensive.
When he decides on just sticking with one at a time she gives a sigh of relief.
Guess he made the right choice.
Any time he looks up at her she'll smile and pump her fist in the air in a 'You go Mychasi!' sort of way.
After the forty second brownie one of the drunks looks up at the little dragon/lad and slurs, "Eeeh... Wrd thath come from...? Whacha doin'?"
He tries to stand up-
-only to collapse into his chair again.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Ally undeadtimes and looks around while she waits for her drinking partner to suggest a safer place to go.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Mychasi cringes when the man asks him what he's doing. Damnit! Why couldn't he have just left it at his first question? Then he wouldn't have had to answer.
There is a long pause where Mychasi racks his brains, though he continues with his work, going to collect brownie number forty-three.
Without looking up, he answers the man. "I'm feeding... Y'golonoc. 'Til it bursts," he says, in a shaky voice.
He then proceeds to snap his mouth tightly shut.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
"Eh?" the drunk grunts before passing out again.
*thud*
From up in the rafters the little half-drow girl claps! Though she doesn't say anything. Saying something might make Mychasi mess up and that would be terrible!
And so back to brownie shuttling.
One after another.
For what feels like ages.
Though eventually...
There will be brownies stacked up to the rim of the well. Stuffed completely full.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Din sigh, settling down in a chair in the corner again, wondering what she was doing here at all...
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
The great work continues.
The back-and-forth is surprisingly tiring. Which is making Mychasi more than a little peckish. He'd never gotten a chance to eat the other brownies that were still waiting at the temple. And watching all these baked goods tumble down into the darkness of the well just makes his stomach grumble louder.
Eating one would be a really dumb idea.
And yet the chocolaty goodness in his hands...
It beckons.
Finally, however, the thing is filled!
Mychasi breathes a sigh of relief, and turns to vacate the premises as quickly as possible. Remembering not to look back...
...but forgetting to sing.
Oh no!
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
The little girl in the rafters gasps in horror as Mychasi doesn't sing!
Quick as a flash she jumps from her perch, lands in a low crouch and-
...starts singing.
A song that was in the memories her Mother gave her. One her Mother liked. One that Crow had taught her a long, long time ago.
Hopefully Mychasi will get the hint.
Because if not...
Well...
Then terrible things will happen.
And that would be terrible.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
He comes to an almost-halt when he hears the singing. Doesn't quite stop, just slows his pace.
A cough to clear his throat. Then, a sharp breath.
He begins to sing to himself in the way one might when walking alone through a dark eerie forest, the nervousness clear in his voice. It's a song he knows well - one that he'd heard sung many a time when visiting Elune at her temple in the mountains. She had told him that it was a song about dragons, and even though he can't speak a word of Elven, he knows the sounds well enough.
A nice slow amble takes him to the door. He steps outside, and closes it firmly behind him.
Mission complete!
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXXXVI
Before Mychasi he will see a hulking, headless being with slathering mouths in its hands and stomach. It screeches at him, clawing and hissing, as crumbs of brownies tumble from its maws. It bloats and swells and blisters and finally bursts in a dazzling flash of light.
Y'golonoc has been sealed.
...
Moments later the door flies open and the little half-drow girl aims to glomp Mychasi from behind!
"You did it! Yay! I knew you could do it Mychasi!"
...
She smells like a whole bunch of different animals all at once.
Kind of like Zee, actually.
