Re: Can we just do another music thread?
So after spending the past two years or so in mourning after Reznor back-burnered Nine Inch Nails, I finally got up the courage to listen to How To Destroy Angels, and all I can say is
HOLY BALLS WANT MORE
It's like Ghosts... but with vocals. Hell yes.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I have been listening to a lot of Steve Earle lately.
HE IS SO AWESOME.

I rewatched Heartworn Highways recently, and I have this song stuck in my head right now.
That reminds me, I need to try to catch Hayes Carll live soon.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
So what do you guys suggest for comedy music?

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
The Lonely Island, Axis Of Awesome, Spinal Tap, Flight of the Conchords. Hank Green isn't always comedy, but it's pretty funny when it is.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Tripod are also good musical comedians. I think they're kinda similar to Flight of the Conchords (except I actually like Tripod).
Also not on that topic at all but Tom Milsom is great. So great, I wonder if he's doing Explorers 7?

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Check out Tim Minchin, Flanders & Swann, Bill Bailey, and Tom Leher.

Personally, I like The Four Postmen, though theirs is a very...specific and unique brand of humor. Also, Marc Gunn's album Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers, and it's follow up, Whiskers in the Jar, both had me giggling madly. Your mileage may vary in accordance with your relationship with cats.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I'd second Tom Lehrer. That man was hilarious.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I just figured out that for the past 2-3 years I've been mostly listening to Shining (swe). So much so that about 75% of the time, if the song that comes up on shuffle isn't Shining, I skip, and then later on manually select a Shining song.
I really need to find something new I'm willing to listen to.

And classy - let's not forget about that.
I would add MozART Group (here paired with an amazing mime).
Obviously, there is also Weird Al Yankovic.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
So if any of you guys like post rock you should watch this video of my best friend's band. It's decent for a concert camera recording.

Black Emperor, St. Vincent, Flying Lotus, AWOLNATION, Azealia Banks, Buzzcocks, Kaiser Chiefs, tUnE-yArDs, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Justice, At the Drive-In, Florence and the Machine, La Roux, the Weeknd, and the Hives
Any others on the list I should be excited about?

Zeds Dead, Amon Tobin, Madeon, Death Grips, Bon Iver, Andrew Bird, and Mt Eden are cool too.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Manchester Orchestra is really cool live.
The Black Lips a million times more so. (But after being kicked out of so many venues I don't know how they keep getting booked)
A festival seems like the worst place to see GY!BE. I'd love to see them in a club.
Saturday seems like the only day worth going to me, but I don't think going to SoCal is really feasible for me then. I went to Sasquatch last summer in the middle of a three week constitutional law class and I'll never do that again. (100% worth it though) I don't know the capacity for Cochella, but at Sasquatch there were a few side sets that weren't too crowded. My girlfriend and I had practically a private set with J. Mascis. But, there is way too much crowd fighting at the main stages for big festivals to become a thing I do much.
EDIT: I totally missed that Refused are back together and playing. I thought Refused were ******* dead!? OMG WANT

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Hopefully my best friend and I will be flying down to Indio to attend Coachella in April. Suddenly I care far more about who is going to be there.

It costs me over a thousand bucks just to fly there and back. Not gonna happen.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Hey, y'all, my band just put up our first album for your free streaming pleasure. It's been about a year in coming and I'm pretty happy with how it came out. Not asking y'all to buy it, although I certainly wouldn't mind, but I'd love it if you'd give it a listen.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Moff: the album isn't my kind of music, I've got to admit, but even though it's not my kind of thing, I could tell that it's good. A solid album.

Dudes! This Handshake Band Has An Album And It's Awesome!

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Apparently Sabrepulse is back and kicking out some fresh jams.
Here is the first track of his new album; you can easily see the links to subsequent tracks on the EP as well, though I'm confused as to why it's an EP. It has eight tracks and I always thought that would place an album in the LP category...anyway, I digress. Give it a listen.

I also suggest The Arrogant Worms, DaVinci's Notebook (plus, hey, a capella!), The Axis of Awesome, and if you can find them, Corky & the Juice Pigs.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I will confess that I don't know the first difference between an opera and a musical, but Avenue Q is a work of magnificent, magnificent art regardless. :smalltongue:
