The first song from the latest album that's been released...
Bad as Me - Tom Waits
THIS IS GODDAMN AWESOME.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I had to reach way back into the memory bank to find this one:
Soul Coughing: Rolling
I love how the bass has the perfect amount of filth to make it interesting.
Oh, and Pandora actually did me a favor for once and sent me through the interwebs to listen to this:
Boom Boom Satellites: Shut Up and Explode
Edit: Just listened Skrillex: Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (discussed on page three of this thread): Epic stuff.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
So I just picked up the new Airborne Toxic Event album. It's surprisingly good. Even though I think their first was better.

It's my fourteen year old brother's favorite song... seeing as, aside from Skrillex, his favorite stuff is Katy Perry and Usher, that says all that needs to be said about Skrillex. At least from a disapproving big brother's perspective. :smalltongue:

i am amazed that your brother listens to that with YOU in the house...

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Sometime ago I discovered an interesting group back from the 80's and I'm not sure, if it was because of a thread around theese boards or just YouTube random walk. Without further rambling: Talk Talk.

To be quite honest, I prefer his more coherent songs like Walk Away.

That might be exactly the point.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
By the way, Chums, my dad agrees with you wholeheartedly on the "good dubstep" "bad dubstep" thing. My dad liked dubstep before it was cool.
...
If my dad was younger, he would, by admission, be SUCH a hipster!

So he was a hipster before it was even a word - a hipsquared. :smallwink:

I had never heard of Skrillex before...
I'll be glad to forget all about him

actually? Yeah. Him and my mum. They would enjoy so much when Blue Monday would come on in the clubs, because the floor would clear and they could dance on their own.

You and me both. Doesn't look like he's going anywhere any time soon though. :smallannoyed:

He listens on headphones, and he asked me a couple months ago if I knew who Skrillex was. So no, he genuinely enjoys the stuff. It would almost be better if that wasn't the case. :smalltongue:

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I decided that my theme songs are, depending on my state of mind:
Wasted, by Camper Van Beethoven
Outsiders, by Franz Ferdinand
or Son the Father, by Effed Up.
... whose name continues to annoy me, because it won't get through the bloody filter on the forum...

BUT WHERE'S THE DROP BRO

It would be the best if there wasn't a drop.

I pondered posting that cover, but seeing as they're going for the note-for-note, sample-for-sample type vibe, I didn't bother, seeing as I find the cover just as vapid as the original... I mean, it's cool that they figured out how to do it using that gear, but if it had been a genuine rock arrangement, that'd have been a lot less gimmicky, and more... actually cool.
On a totally different topic, I've only now gotten around to listening to Flaming Lips. Embryonic's a goddam hell of an album.

so you actually know what it means, or are you faking it like I do?

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
There are certain realities of going to American public high schools that one must, if not embrace, at least pay enough attention to to properly lampoon...

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Random hoping led me today to an interesting album: Symphonic Slam. It's a bit weird (not as much as Cromagnon), but it's a good weird.

He might expand his tastes in due time. It took me quite some years to understand simplier forms of jazz (John Coltrane is still a bit beyond me). Keep him exposed to some quality music and be patient.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
i've been endlessly listening to the droning of optokopler. i dont know why, but it helps my processes and i have a lot of material to get through.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Having a longwinded argument on Facebook with someone trying to convince me that Rush is deeper than Gang of Four and Aesop Rock put together. Because Geddy Lee can sing and play keyboard and bass at the same time. And that makes him deep, guys. :smallannoyed:

I regularly study with Dargaard or Die Verbannten Kinder Evas in the background. Helps me concentrate. 'Course, I put the volume really low.

By that logic, this guy is the deepest musician... in the world.
Also: something has to be added to the discussion about covers. Badly performed songs are just bad - not much harm done there. What's worse, is a cover that rips out everything, that made the original meaningful and filled the husk with generic sound, that has no connection with the song whatsover. An example I encountered was RDM: Smells Like Teen Spirit, Bohemian Rhapsody, Purple Haze and many more mutiliated classics. I'm not eager to throw negative opinions, but something has gone horribly wrong.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I was wondering if you folks could help me find a performer and/or album.
It's a total drum n bass album that samples The Blair Witch project in a few of the first tracks. I could have sworn the performer was GodLikeMouse but, according to his site, his first album came out in 2009. I came across this disc in 2003 (the disc is now lost).
Any ideas?
