Reddit made the connection To Hakase. Not sure if it really is or not though. That character did appear in the other ones too.

You know, now that you mention it, the art has been a little more vivid of late. Maybe Jeph's just been stricken by inspiration from the more fantastical setting of the current arc. It'd be great if it became a permanent thing.

Or maybe that's a song name. I'm not sure.
I'd be surprised if They Might be Giants haven't done something to that effect yet.

Yes, I see this working out well.
I wouldn't be so sure about Station. If Watchmen has taught me anything it's that shimmering blue men are sex symbols.

For Science is the closest thing I can think of in the TMBG catalogue. Blinded Me With Science might be the song you want, although the sexes are the wrong way 'round.

If I am going to ship Hanners with anyone it would be Momo.
A mysophobe and a woman who can sterilize herself. It's perfect!
I actually had this thought weeks before I saw this comic.

Yeah, makes sense. I might even go with that.
I like station's humor, to be honest. But I wonder if a whiskey would really be that good after 300 years underwater.
-
Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
Well, assuming no contamination, it'd just be like it aged 300 years above water, with maybe some extra time to account for the pressure. Although I'm not sure a 300+-year-old whiskey would taste all that well either.
-
Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
I'm pretty sure it would taste vile.
I don't imagine that Pirates were generally buying the best whiskey to start off with.

Well... it was whiskey, so vile taste is a predominat feature anyway. :smalltongue:

Don't forget temperature. If it was at a considerable depth it might have been kept quite cool and that would have slowed down the aging process, too. They've have to drink it to tell.
(IIRC, several cases of 100 year old brandy were found in Antarctica, left behind in Shackleton's camp. Don't know how that tasted, though.)
-
Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
Coolness is one thing, but an important part of ocean-preserved beverages is that the temperature has been mostly constant.
-
Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
Well, what did Station expect? They're scientists. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
Also, if you want to read about Shackleton's whisky, the paper is here. See page 4 of the PDF for the "sensory analysis."

Whiskey doesn't mature once it's bottled.

You should try a mint julep then. Or non-bottom shelf bourbon. :smalltongue:

It was Jack Daniels, so not a cheap imitation I guess. Still, it wasn't as bad as grappa or anything based on anise.

Jack Daniels is disgusting. I detest JD. Try Makers Mark, for bourbon. For Scotch, I recommend Laphroaig, if you can handle it. That stuff is so smoky, it's still on fire. Don't know if you can get it where you are though... We ended up having to go all the way to England to get it, a few years ago. Crown Royal, for a good Canadian Rye. Not sure about Irish whisky, never had any, for some reason.

Jack Daniels is not bourbon. Not bourbon at all. You want Markers Mark, Buffalo Trace, or Woodford Reserve.

I don't understand that, Irish whiskey is far superior to scotch.
Depending on your taste I'd recommend either Jameson or Redbreast, both very nice but quite different. Get the 12 year aged or older depending on your purse.
If you're particularly flush with cash Midleton is supposed to be extremely good, but can cost rather more than I'd be willing to pay for anything smaller than a car (seriously, they start at around €150 and go up to €2500 a bottle).
Bushmills is nice but, in my opinion, tastes more like a scotch, so you may as well just drink a good scotch. Powers and Paddy are best avoided (again just my opinion, and I'm sure some folk like the stuff or they'd be out of business by now).
I do completely agree with your opinion of JD though. Worst whiskey alcoholic beverage of any sort I've ever tasted.
-
Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
Oooh, I love Laphroaig. Got a thing for Islay Scotches.
However, they said Whiskey, not Whisky, so we can imply it was Irish, not Scotch.
Given it is St Patricks Day, I may be forced to drink some of that Jamesons I have later.

Huh? He said that he had Jack Daniels which is neither Irish nor Scotch. :smallconfused: It's American. Specifically Tennessee variant.
I replied that bourbon was what he wanted. Because bourbon is better. And alliterative.

I can totaly agree with that. :smalltongue:
Since both you and Coidzor agree upon Makers Mark I might add it to the "to drink" list even if it's probably beyond reasonable reach right now.
On an unrelated note I do wonder, how they menaged to create full 3D images.

Sorry, when I said "he" I meant Jeph. Brief lapse into ontopic stuff. Won't happen again.

Yeah, Jeph said Whisky though (unless he changed it afterward, that's what it shows now anyway).

Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
My understanding of Scots was that spelling was frequently optional with regards to distilled mash liquor so that it'd be a toss-up anyway.
-
Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
Spelling probably also depends on how much of said liquor you've imbibed before trying to spell it as well.

Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
Yet another fellow putting in a vote for Maker's Mark as a good bourbon. It's very good, and at least over here, reasonably cheap. Woodford Reserve is also very good.
For Scotch whisky (no 'e' for scotch), The Glenlivet 12 year and Glenfiddich 12 year are both very good beginner whiskies; got a good flavour, and are reasonably cheap.
Jack Daniels is worthless unless one is shooting or drinking a boilermaker, which is just shooting with more liquid.
