Re: My Little Pony: Avatar Is Magic II
Alright, I'm going to take the plunge here, someone hook me up with a Mojo Jojo ponytar.
Here's Mojo hamming it up, if that helps any ponytarists.

Here are a couple of examples of my turtle avatars:

Re: My Little Pony: Avatar Is Magic II
Since my first request was rather difficult I'm going to go with Edward Elric instead.
Here's a reference if anyone needs it:
Here's further reference, specifically his automail limbs:
And, for mannerisms, remember that ponies are small... HEY WHO ARE YOU CALLING A TINY LITTLE PIPSQUEAK?
I think he should be a unicorn pony given his ability with alchemy, and I'd say his cutie mark would be the mark on the back of his cloak in the first picture. The rest (even whether or not the cutie mark turns out visible) I'll leave in the hands of the artist.
Edit: Swapped out first image.
Re: My Little Pony: Avatar Is Magic II
Re: My Little Pony: Avatar Is Magic II
Here's a different reference pic of Ed, since the first one in my other post keeps breaking despite my edits.
Re: My Little Pony: Avatar Is Magic II
So out of curiosity what do you think of third attempt at a "pony" avatar. This time it's an oc. Any criticism that could help me improve?

Can I get a new one of Gull Chaser (my ponytar) sitting and reading a book while wearing a Tudor Bonnet?
Gender Female
Type: Earth pony/Pegasus pony/Unicorn pony/Other
Coat color: Burgundy
Mane color and style: The bun will be covered up by the hat, so I suppose a white ponytail :P
Eye color: Orange!
Cutie mark: Seagull in flight
Pose: Reading. I'm thinking kneeling on all fours, but if a better pose comes to mind go with that.
Expressions: Small smile.
Accessories or costumes: Black Tudor Bonnet with a white or red tassle, black scarf, book.

Something I've tolen from someone else, is when you draw on paper, you can find a nice well lit are, prop it against the wall, and take a picture. It reduces weird shadows and can keep your hand/camera shadow off the picture as well! Clipboards and fluorescent lights for all the ponies!

I might as well take a swing at this. I'm bored.
First off, the mouth seems pretty off. From my perspective it looks to be sinking below the face in a way that feels unnatural. Note the position of the lower jaw and how it bends. I suspect raising it would fix a lot. Given that the face is always intrinsically interesting when drawing almost any sort of creature, some special care must be given to this.
Secondly I would experiment with "pupil" placement. It might feel a bit more natural if they were shifted a bit closer to the center of the eye than they do now.
Finally, and this is the part where I get nitpicky, the legs seem to have fewer....MUCH fewer holes than one would expect from Changelings. While that's not a problem in the slightest, it's odd why you would think to include them in the first place. Are those designs in his* legs fancy holes or white tattoos? If the former, I would suggest filling them in partially to give the illusion of depth, if only to avoid making it look like the leg isn't flat. I notice he* has notches in both of his* forelegs so it's probably not a phenotypical trait of some variant species, one that doesn't have holes in their legs. It's worth remembering that the yellow eyes, yellow carapace-thingy, and dark-cobalt coat do imply a strong difference, and not just one in Mendelian Inheritance (think Gregor Mendel's pea plants,) otherwise we would have seen more multicolored changelings in the Season 2 finale.
And now that I ripped your poor OC to shreds, allow me to offer some compliments. I definitely like the design, and many aspects of your image convey at least some of his* story to me. Simple color choices convey individuality and possibly a hint of deeper symbolism, though that's probably overthinking on my part.
Anyways, those are just my thoughts. Feel free to consider, completely disregard, or get on your knees and worship me as much as you wish.
Also if you want your picture made into a vectorized avatar, i'm here :smallwink:
Re: My Little Pony: Avatar Is Magic II
Hey Dirtytabs, do you mind if I switch to that Travis Touchdown picture?
Re: My Little Pony: Avatar Is Magic II
Ah ha, it's been a while since I've done anything for this thread. The forum was down? When?
Don't mind if you do. Let me dig it up.

You're still not as slow as I am. I've only now managed to finish drawing something since February.
What do you think? Is the mane too neat?

In a word...yes. Most styles of mane tend to at least possess some direction lines in them. There are simplistic styles of mane that work (Derpy comes to mind) but I'm not sure it works here, mostly because you use higher levels of detail in other places. The gradient in the mane, the flashy cutie mark, and the regal wings give me the impression that you were aiming for a more stylized look than is present in the mane and tail. Adding some branching hairs along the side of the tail, rather than just at the end, would help make things look a bit more natural.*
The wings look very nice, as though they took a bit of devotion, although I personally think that stylized wings would blend better if they were attached to a similarly stylized body. All in all, pretty nice. I hope I wasn't too critical, but I figured that if you spent a few months on a piece you deserve a little feedback.:smallwink:

Eh... Adding extra lines to a mane annoys me for some reason... Though I know what you mean. It works well when done well, but I can never get it to look right. Factor in the gradient on the outline and you've got a recipe for late nights spent decrying the inhumanity of it all.
Actually, the gradient mane is because I did one the first time I drew that pony, the flashy cutie mark isn't actually that flashy and the regal wings are because I really don't like the show style. If I draw this particular pony again, I shall make the mane and tail more scruffy and justify this as him having just combed them.
It took a while to find a style I liked enough to imitate. First step; wings, next step; coats.
And no, I didn't spend months on this. It's just the first thing I managed to draw from start to finish in months. But I am almost finished the one that's been sitting on my computer unfinished for ages.
