My feeling is that Yuki's father have very little say in who her Americanized (or would that be Canadianized? Westernized in any case) daughter chooses to be with. While she's clearly still having issues with him, I don't think I've even gotten the impression that she's seeking his approval. So, the old man had better consent if he knows what's best for him.
Edit: Wait, she's drawing that yuri comic to compete with him, isn't she? Okay, so she might have some acknowledgement issues or something. Still, it doesn't have to extend to her romantic life. I still think the deal is "if you don't consent I'll just do it anyway, so save yourself some grief and get used to it, old man."

Eponymous.
Especially since "titular" is supposed to refer to something or someone that's "in title only" (e.g. a titular king is a guy who everyone calls "King X" but he doesn't really have any political power).

Re: Ménage à 3 II: Zii's 'Z' Top - Sharp Dressed Girl
Also, given which two girls we are talking about, "titular" may not be the best adjective to describe such an occurrence. GET IT CAUSE THEY'RE FLAT.

True enough - hard to word it in a way that you can use eponymous instead.
And titular may not pun well with the two characters in question, but more with the overall comic.

Actually, according to dictionary.com, either usage is appropriate.
tit·u·lar [tich-uh-ler, tit-yuh-]
adjective
1. existing or being such in title only; nominal; having the title but none of the associated duties, powers, etc.: the titular head of the company.
2. from whom or which a title or name is taken: His titular Saint is Michael.
3. of, pertaining to, or of the nature of a title.
4. having a title, especially of rank.
5. designating any of the Roman Catholic churches in Rome whose nominal incumbents are cardinals.
1 is clearly the definition you're referring to. 2 and 3 fit with radar's use of the word. 4 and 5 aren't really germane to the discussion, but I find 5 to be kind of interesting.

... Just use "eponymous" instead of titular?

There aren't any characters in the story that are named "Ménage à trois"... Eponymous describes the quality of a person or character who gives his name to something. E.g., "Harry Potter and the Magical Deus Ex Machina" or "Dominic Deegan: Oracle Nobody Ever Hires".
In short, titular and eponymous are mirror notions. Titular means that it comes from the title, eponymous means that the title comes from it.

Also, this comic does not contain any pony.

I looked it up. According to the World English Dictionary, it can be used to refer to the work being named after a person (or event, as is the case here) or the other way around.

Pancakes? I've... never actually thought about it that way. Damn it, now I'm imagining all sorts of things. Edit: Do we like pancakes?
Finally we get a look into Kiley's thoughts on the whole matter. It's nice to get a right side on that.
I'm feeling bad for Kiley here, though. It's been an emotional day for her, and now she'll have to stand up for her feelings without any time to properly digest them.

Pancake breasts? You canadians must have mighty weird pancakes.

I just assumed that, in Canada, everything is required to relate to maple syrup in some way. Maybe she's trying to work up the courage to ask Gary for an Old King Clancy.

I'd prefer cupcakes myself I think... but pancakes are nice, too.

He's probably saying the closest English approximation of 'yoroshiku onegaishimasu'.
The meaning of 'yoroshiku onegaishimasu' changes depending on the context and 'Please take care of my child' is the closest way of saying 'thank you for being kind to my daughter'.
If Yuki wasn't there, then he could say it and the meaning changes to "please be kind to me' or 'it is nice to meet you', depending on where he says it in his greeting.
It's one of those ambiguous phrases you regularly encounter in a language that simply doesn't have an easy translation.

One shared with the British, in this case - 'Pancake' as in 'flat', is what she seems to be getting at :smalltongue:

Re: Ménage à 3 II: Zii's 'Z' Top - Sharp Dressed Girl
hm... theoretically we're still in a pretty good way here, given the recent strip. Kiley was out for a one-time thing (at least so she tells herself) and now Yuki is back in the race and ready to deal with her issues. This can go well for everyone involved.
(It wont, of course, but the status quo has been shaken. Everything goes.)

Kiley was out for a one night stand. Things have changed since Gary has apparently chosen her, even with her body image issues.
I'm very interested in where the story is currently going as it can be very very good, very very bad and the entire range in between.

Re: Ménage à 3 II: Zii's 'Z' Top - Sharp Dressed Girl

We knew it was going to happen, we just didn't know what it was going to be...
Nice twist.

Re: Ménage à 3 II: Zii's 'Z' Top - Sharp Dressed Girl
Well, Gary, now is the moment to man up and say "We are not getting married."
100 bucks say he won't, though.

Re: Ménage à 3 II: Zii's 'Z' Top - Sharp Dressed Girl
Oookay.
Yuki has gotten substantially crazier since last time we saw her, or rather, she has extended her insanity into new and interesting venues. I'm really not sure when she came under the impression that anything like this was even remotely in the cards.
After the initial shock has settled, Gary has the ultimate upper hand. He doesn't have to deal with this crap. He's never heard anything of the sort before. He just has to go "uh no" and there's nothing anyone can do about it. Yuki has no influence over him. If anything, she's strengthening Kiley's position by comparison, since Kiley is, y'know, not crazy.
I do hope the "we shall get married" thing isn't going to become a big aspect of Yuki's relationship with Gary, because it came straight out of nowhere and has the staying power of melting butter on a teflon slope.
-
Re: Ménage à 3 II: Zii's 'Z' Top - Sharp Dressed Girl
It looks pretty telegraphed to me. Kiley's going to give up on him because she thinks he's tied to Yuki, Gary will flub explaining away this situation and have Yuki go violent and reject him, and he'll be back to frustrated single-hood to preserve the (new) status quo in that Gary cannot get a girlfriend, even if he's no longer a virgin.
-
Re: Ménage à 3 II: Zii's 'Z' Top - Sharp Dressed Girl
So...how's this for a theory? Yuki has always been very insane. But prior to this, most of her crazy has been bottled up in a fear/loathing/hallucination regarding male genitals. Lets say that by reconciling with her father, this fear has been undone, and her crazy is free to infect all areas of her behavior.
Okay, kidding, but there is something not right with Yuki if this is serious and not a mistranslation ("No papa, in Canada we have longterm relationships before marriage, and will likely just be common-law for a while" ? ). I mean, who gets engaged from a month of double-dating that ended with getting kicked in the family jewels.
Just...really hoping Gary continues to choose Kiley. I want to continue to see the romance in this romantic comedy. Is this a romantic comedy?

The whole bit where she actually has had audio-visual hallucinations that the audience was in on would give you some room to argue this, yes.
-
Re: Ménage à 3 II: Zii's 'Z' Top - Sharp Dressed Girl
Frankly, it's nothing new for Yuki - remember how possesive she was of Zii? Considering, that Yuki was probably the only person Zii was actively avoiding, there had to be a reason.

Yeah, no. That'd not be a new status quo, that'd be the old one all over again, with slightly different clothes on. Development has happened here. Dropping all that out the window would be the single most stupid thing Giz and Dave could do with the comic, and they're just too good for that.

I'm not sure if it's actually been a romantic comedy until very recently. I'd call it a sex comedy for the most part, but I do appreciate the new fresh streaks of romance in there.
Personally, I'm not really sure what I hope will happen. Gary sticking to Kiley would satisfy my own sense of propriety, but there must be some relevant tension between for drama to happen. I guess I'm just hoping that Gary will not stagnate or regress, that he will continue to grow and learn from his experiences, learning to take control of his own situation.

I'd call it more of a farce, given the complete Shenanigans (capital S) that have been happening for most of the comic up to this point.

Trust me, you have no idea how much I want to be wrong. I'm enjoying NewGary immensely, and want him to stick around. I just don't want to get my hopes up.
