We are not nice. We're evil and we bite :P
That being said, I'd be possibly open to a larger meetup (I'm not so great in small groups) :)
Also, assuming that I've moved out by then, I'd probably be able to put you up Rawhide (:

I mean, it would be good for you in an emergency, even if you're not the central point of contact...
The bad news: my new phone isn't here yet.
The good news: my old old phone is barely functional.
The bad news: my old old phone is down to about 3% power and I can't remember where I put the charger.
Soooo either my new phone will turn up tomorrow, or I guess I'll have to carry around my laptop with me? A definite time and place to meet up would be helpful.

Eep! Strongly recommend you beg, borrow, or steal* a phone. Having a way to contact you and vice versa would be incredibly useful.
*Stealing not actually suggested.

Good news: I've scouted out the perfect vantage point, actually asked a groundskeeper for their suggestion. So, failing everything, people who know what we each look like can find us there. It's right to the wall in front of the grassed area with BBQs.
Bad news: An online site said that the first fireworks were 8:30pm, the groundskeeper said 8:00pm. That might just be preparation time, but I think we should work with that just in case.
As for how early... I'll probably be in South Bank from 5pm, maybe 6 (but probably 5). So if you want to be early, it's ok to arrive that early.

I found one presumably belonging to one of my housemates.
It has the exact same charger as my other one :I
There isn't really anyone else around I could ask, not before tomorrow night.

Uh... Where? Near the pool? Or further towards the Maritime Museum? Exact specifics are crucial, here.

I probably won't be that early. Did we wanna get dinner together? Maybe meet at that Mexican place at 6 or something?

Woo, phone sorted?
Near the pool, but not in front of it. Stand by the pool and look at the river, to the left of the pool.
I'm up for eating dinner somewhere on South Bank at 6pm.

Re: Australasia in the Playground V
Nope. It has the same charger as the phone for which I've forgotten where I put the charger.
Okay, I know where that is. I think meeting somewhere for food first might be best bet though.

Ah, it uses the same charger and you don't have that either? :smallfrown:
Hope you get a phone sorted asap!
Ok, where to meet for dinner? I don't know the best places in South Bank for meals, so suggest away!
Also, we should probably book it...

Re: Australasia in the Playground V
Seprie just made me aware of this...
Sorry kids, but I a have New Years plans with my man (and I don't mean Kali this time! :smalltongue: ).
And you would have to pay me a lot of money to go see the second hobbit movie.
Have fun though!

You should both swing by for the 8:00/8:30 fireworks.

This early? Gosh, it's like nerds putting up a tent two days before a new Star Trek movie... :smalleek:

Re: Australasia in the Playground V
Ok, plan: Meet at the Satay Hut at 6pm or earlier.
How's that sound people?

Re: Australasia in the Playground V
Near Movenpick. Face Movenpick from the road then go left. Not far, same block.
-
Re: Australasia in the Playground V
Update: "free public transport will be provided, once again, on all bus, rail and ferry services on the TransLink network between 9pm on New Year's Eve and 5.30am on New Year's Day."
Your return trip will be free.
-
Re: Australasia in the Playground V
I have a vague feeling there's multiple Movenpicks...
You're really bad at this directions thing. Let me look it up...
Okay, it's Shop 3 Little Stanley St - just before that street ends - around the corner from The Point and south down the road from Chocolate Pavillion (which is just around the corner from Max Brenner). It's across from the parklands, right next to the tunnel to the underground car parking at South Bank.
-
Re: Australasia in the Playground V
1) It's very hard to give directions when you don't know the area and are at least 30 minutes away from it.
2) There's only one Movenpick in South Bank.
3) I chose a landmark I was sure you were familiar with that was very close to it and gave an explicit orientation.
---
In other news, I'm in South Bank now if anyone would like to rock up and get the party started.

Re: Australasia in the Playground V
P.S. Bring camping chairs.
P.P.S. Don't bring alcohol or glass.

Re: Australasia in the Playground V
Ok guise, I'm at the Satay Hut. Ask at the "please wait to be seated" sign for Rawhide's table. Was difficult getting a booking so you'd better make it! :smalltongue:

Re: Australasia in the Playground V
So how did the NYE thing go for peeps? :smalltongue:

Re: Australasia in the Playground V
Peregrine and I decided to celebrate the new year on New Zealand's timetable. That way, we said 'Happy New Year' at 7pm and were able to go to bed whenever we felt like it
I suggested we do the same thing next year with Christmas... er, this year. It's this year now. Damn I hate January.

Re: Australasia in the Playground V
Christmas was great, but NYE wasn't very exciting.
How many of you Perthtonians are going to be at Waicon this year?

The who-what-now? I feel bad that I don't know what this is.
On the other hand, it's frigging hot (42 according to the bom website).
Also, Lioness! Hello!
And hi Skep

This. I'm not into the anime so much as the running around in silly costumes, though.
-
Re: Australasia in the Playground V
Ahh. Yeah, I'm not into anime at all... won't be at that one.
-
Re: Australasia in the Playground V
While I'd love to be coming to waicon, costs are still a bit too much for me (what with flights and all). Next year it's a possibility though :D

What about Oz-Comicon? Same venue, about four weeks later, but is more general pop culture.

If you're seriously considering interstate travel, I would wait for Supanova. It's bigger, plus there's a wider range of activities and cosplay. That said, I'd love to see you over when you can afford it!
