Partially that, partially the having to be aware of that limitation lead to different actions by your parents than they'd have taken otherwise. It's... well, it's pretty darn irresponsible for a parent to let itself become too intoxicated to do its job without someone else at least temporarily filling the role of guardian. I believe there's some debate over whether such indiscretions would actually cross the line into formal abuse.
Partially that it's not your role, though the converse of not having taken on the role of driver is that you still fill the role of drivee, which means that you are, generally, accepting a subordinate, child's role in how planning and other things are conceived.
That's why when my parents dropped the ball on teaching me how to drive because I didn't press them hard enough and was too patient in waiting for them to get over my brother's horrible car wreck when I was 15 and then swamped with college prep, college applications, and then living away from home at college, I finally lit a fire under their asses about it after my lack of license and the power disparity that created in my relationship contributed to a horrible breakup, since that was at least one aspect of my existence that I had some capacity to change in order to change my circumstances and situation.
Wuff. All this thinking about things is reminding me of how long it's been since I've gotten to cuddle.
All told I'm not quite sure why I was coming off so harshly there. Sorry about that. :smallfrown:
All told, I much preferred to be me in the situation than to experience the crisis first hand. I was just the cavalry. Still, exhausting and I'm probably not going to recover full functionality until tomorrow.

So, about half an hour ago, someone decided to try to break into my flat. I can genuinely say, that is the most scared I have ever been. Significantly shaken right now, really not too happy.

I don't think you came off to harshly. Additionaly, I guess it's different for us. If the car has passanger's, they probably have somewhere to go, otherwise they wouldn't be in the car. But that's nether here nor there. Wish I could help with the cuddles thing, you're a great guy who needs a big squishy pillow, stat!
Also, I intend to learn how to drive this year.

I do it when I feel like I'm being long winded as a bit of a courtesy to people who want to skim through the thread and those who have no interest in what I have to say, which I must assume is a majority of forumites. Or when I'm on or continuing a tangent or aside to the audience.
And, occasionally, to set thoughts off as either dependent on a previous paragraph or to divorce them more completely.
I think in this case I started with the long-winded and then a bit of an element of splitting up thoughts came into play.
I think the last pic I posted in the You Thread features Il Doge, with his laser eyes while I was holding him shortly after getting him. He's basically gotten slightly stockier, I think, since then but is otherwise apparently full grown now, so we just have to wait for him to calm down after ceasing to be a pup.

Dogs are a trade off, definitely. It's not like cats where there's three options, giant short haired cats, giant fluffy cats, or effectively no cat in the form of a hypoallergenic/hairless/actual-lack-of cat.
Most of the ones that are fun to cuddle and will put up with such treatment are about as big as one's self, and the small ones are easy to spoil or come pre-spoilt by bad breeding practices. And the ones inbetween are a compromise, as dogs bodies are a bit more rigid than cats and are certainly more bony than sleek in most cases.
Still, they're a lot more fun for a lot longer than cats, even if you're about as likely to have them lick your face as a cat.

Re: How was your day?
Today was pretty good. Hung out with a friend on his birthday. Met my best friend's girlfriend. Watched Winter's Bone for the fourth time. I really should get around to returning that to the library. Maybe tomorrow.
-
Re: How was your day?
Oh man, love skiing. Great stuff. It's also extra fun as it's a sport which allows for incredibly impressive wipeouts, with a (relatively) lower chance of injury. Of course, one of my brother's friends broke his back and another broke his arm in the same day on the slopes, so, don't take that as a guarantee! (Both are fine nowadays, but one had a very low mobility year!)
As for myself, I spent today hanging out with theater friends. Worked on choreography for fight scenes in a play I'm in this quarter (they're GREAT, it's gonna be so much fun, speaking of which I need to buy a cane sword). Played some improv games, also great. Been a relatively relaxed day, and I still got a good bit of physics homework done too.

So, since I was posting at 2am last time I'll post the full story here now for you guys. For reference, it's a flat of 6. We first heard the buzzer go just for like a second, and we all figured that it was someone trying all the floors to see if someone would unlock the door for him. So (since it was about 1.30am) one of us went to the window to see if this guy was like trying to distribute leaflets or sell things, but apparently he was just a rough-looking skinhead. So, this guy came straight to the kitchen (where we all were anyway), opened the "kitchen utensils" drawer and got hold of the biggest knife in there.
Sure enough, a minute or two later we heard sort of scratching noises from the door, as if he was trying to get past the lock. We called security and while we were waiting for them to come this guy alternated between knocking at the door, picking the lock and spraying the fire hose at it. All in all, very scary. Eventually security came and chased him away, but that was not fun at all.

Re: How was your day?
My day can probably best be described as 'same-old, same-old'
Although thinking about what to write here has just made me realise the likely reason I'm feeling so incredibly crabby and depressed right now.
I dragged myself and my husband out of bed this morning at 7am (yes, I dragged him out too, he doesn't do mornings), because we were rostered on at church today and we had to be there at 8:30am (he handles the multimedia/sound desk and I'm a singer). Church itself was good, I actually paid attention to the sermon for once... felt vaguely - irritated - when someone asked me, in some surprise, if I was singing again (I've been on for the past three weeks, though last week I only sang because they needed an extra voice).
Mostly, I'm just tired and crabby because I'm trying to get my sleeping patterns fixed and so I refused to let myself have a nap when we got home. And now I'm reading stories off my computer and trying to ignore the fact that it's giving me a sore neck/headache and wondering if I'm tired enough to actually sleep, since I haven't been sleeping well lately. Which is all conspiring to make me feel like crap, be crabby and also think things like 'wow, all the potatoes have turned into alien potatoes'.

Yikes thats scary. Its wonderful no one was hurt, but seeing someone attempting a home invasion of your home is one of the crapyourpants scariest things that can happen to someone. :smalleek: Friggen firehose.

Desperate may also be an apt descriptor.

Anyone else played the Battle Network games? If so, anyone know of a way to play them non-locally (with people who aren't within GBA Link Cable or DS Local Wireless range)?

As far as I've ever heard, there's no way to do it through the internet on the native devices.
So you'd be asking for something more than could be given to you on this site.

You can play online with the sequel series, Starforce, but those may be too different for your tastes.

My dad likes anything with lots of bass and good beats. Dubstep (not Skrillex and his ilk, Burial is where it's at!) Oh, and also squalls of guitar feedback. And wall of noise. My mum likes David Bowie, and My Bloody Valentine, and Sigur Ros.
It's SO HARD for me to find music that both of them hate.

Beethoven? Epic Rap Battles of History? Brentalfloss?
If all else fails, bring up Wagner and Godwin's Law.
My dad likes classic rock and I don't know what all else, he'll put up with more modern stuff, but since he doesn't comment I don't know if that's approval or just that it doesn't actively offend him. My mom likes horrible Christian X, Celtic Woman, and her own crow-like squawking of religious hymns.
I was very vigorous about confirming my mammalian status for a good while after growing up with that.

Guys: The college I'm going to has a Sci-Fi and Fantasy Club! And it's like, really far out and they do activities and stuff! I'm not gonna be friendless after all! They even play DnD.
I'm supposed to receive a letter regarding my admission soon. And I'll go for a visit sometime after that. I'm actually kind of excited. It's gonna be a trip having a roommate, too. Since I'm an only child and all. At least I get a new friend right away.
Oh, and they have one of the best folk festivals in the country!

Heh. I grew up with the Beatles on one side and a whole bunch of crooners on the other. Oh, and a smattering of classical composers. My mum was a music teacher.

Beethoven and Wagner are also popular in this family. My grandfather basically ran the Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, we do lots of classical stuff. Hitler had good taste in music?
