We will do for sure! We made home yesterday around 10:30 p.m and Strawberries could have her first go as a driver in the UK. She did well, apart from the fact that (like me during the first times) from time to time she was not in the center of the lane but a bit on the left (In Europe as you can understand most of the car is actually on the right side and therefore our perception tends ot be slightly different).
Anyway, it was fun and we look forward to the next meetup

yeah, I know the feeling of switching between driving on the left and the right of the road.. Up until Wednesday, I was in 'Right side of the road'-mode, and then had to switch over as I got back to the Uk from my trip to Sweden.
And now that I remember it, as a completely unrelated note from where to drive and such..
Qwaz sent a message to Archie at one point during the afternoon saying "Where's my Krispy Kreme's B***h?", to which Archie replied: "They're right here. Mmmmmm."
Best reply possible.

Thought you were planning on playing "Small World", Ku--did that plan fall by the wayside?

Didn't have time. I'll have plenty of time to play Small World in a bit.. The local gaming shop is planning something big. HUGE, really. More on that later, though.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Now that you remember me that, we should visit Krispy Kreme ....

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
The best comedy moment of the meetup was when I removed my shirt during the eyes closed portion of the werewolf game so that I'd match Grlump's description of the near naked Seer only for Grlump to announce that I had been killed off during that night phase.
Plus I'd identified Snow Leaopard as a killer on my first try.
If I'd survived longer I might have been nude by the end.

Exterminate!
Unfotunatly sand dalek didn‘t materialise, but we did build the most awesome of awesome sand castles. I was Very pleased with the bridge across the moat! (Sorry about the size of all the pictures - I'm doing all this on my phone so not sure how to scale them down...)

That was awesome! Plus, we did kill all the good guys in the end...and nobody ever suspected me! *Evil satisfied grin*

Pictures! I demand pictures! Pictures materialised as I was writing this post. Awesome sand castle indeed!
Which reminds me: pictures!
What I learned at the meetup: Castaras is adorable. Also evil. But mostly adorable. :smalltongue:
Hateboar! And hats pileup!
Games! Awesome nerdy games that I didn't know how to play till now...thanks people for teaching us!
Speaking of games: Nuclear war is super fun:
Yes, for the last time: THERE ARE GIRLS ON THE INTERNET! There, have the proof (I'm the one in the purple top, by the way):
Skype talking with Curly. Curly, I hope to meet you in person next time
Serpentine (who is awesome). And Jaffa cakes!
Also, he's a wolf.
Thanks again for the wonderful weekend, people!
Also, I hope everyone is alright with having their photo posted here... if someone isn't, just PM me and I'll take it down immediately.

No - the evil is far greater than the "adorableness". Believe me - we know.

So, next one in the south, right?

I believe Curly suggested that, having held two main meets in the north, we might actually humour Archie for once and actually go to purgatory London.
I haven't heard any objections to this as yet...

Can we have it somewhere on the outskirts so that those of us with cars stand at least half a chance of being able to reach it? :smallcool:
-
Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
I second the outskirts, I think everyone is worried for the cost of the accommodation plus the availability of parking spaces. However, I vote for the midlands since they are (almost) in the middle.

Plus...you know, being conveniently located more or less in our back yard. :smallwink: But we can make it to London without much trouble, except, accomodation sounds like it could be a problem.
But before thinking about organising the next meet-up, I want to see pictures of the rest of this meetup that we didn't attend! How's it going, people up north?

I object. We've already held a meetup in London. We have picture evidence.
And what two main meets have been in the north? Newcastle, yes.. What else? Sheffield, Leeds, York are all in the middle, more than the north, and there's been one in London, two in Birmingham and two in Peterborough, which are all more souther than a lot of other places.
Also, I'd suspect that it's not only cost of accommodation to take into consideration, but also cost of venue hire. London will not be cheap.

Actually, the one we were at last time we were in London wasn't too bad, although it might be a bit too small if we get the same attendance as we had in Newcastle.

I vote that Cassie organise the next one at Leicester. it'll be a pain in the butt for me to get there, but it's fairly central and she can probably use her evil powers for at least some good as she's bound to have a few evil minions that can sort out a suitable venue for a decent price, much like Grlump did at Sheffield for the Winter meet in February.

Correct, Lodnod will be v. expensive to stay, eat and generally be in...

This idea has my support. Cassie has already mentioned how she can get access to a games cupboard... Also, from experience of living both in the north and the south, the North is extremely very much cheaper than the south, which I feel is a consideration that we should consider...
Also, fixed that for you.
Edit:
Here's a thought regarding dates for the winter meetup. If we coincide it with the Dutch and Trogland meetups, we could have a threeway skype at some point (timezones permitting). That would be awesome!

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Home safe and sound!
Thanks, everyone, for making a slightly-anxious lurker thoroughly enjoy the meet-up. I learned that Braggart (thanks Cassie!) is great and that Burning Wheel seems like something I could totally get into (thanks Guy!). Cheers to Monday People for playing Munchkin with me and a massive thanks to Qwaz for putting me up. Special thank you goes to the Brothers Whitley for taking us to the beach (and making it possible for so many other awesome people to be there to meet!) and for bringing back my laptop after I was an absent-minded imbecile. Strawberries, Cream, Hamish (and again, Qwaz) - the lifts were very much appreciated. And to anyone who hasn't been mentioned individually - thank you all; it wouldn't have been the same without you!

Ooops.. Mixed up this past winter meet and last one which was in Sheffield and organised by our resident (but currently slightly inactive) Spanner.
The Troglanders only have one 'official' meetup each year, and that's the last weekend of June. There's also another one kind of starting up that they have in October, but i think that might be a bit too soon for us to have another big meetup.
Personally, I'd endorse a meetup at somewhere around late November/early December. I know that's going to be when I'll have enough money to head down for a meet again.

If I do have the ability to organise it in Leicester, then it'll be that sort of time - January will be exams, and Februrary I'll probably be busy sorting out new modules and starting to look at Sabrecon (Games Convention in Leicester, run by my gaming group the Leicester Sabres).
Made it back, love you all so so much. When I've had a moment to catch my breath I'll probably start talking lots and lots and lots and lots.

I agree with the suggestion of Leicester - relatively central (yes, I know, Ku, but us ignorant southerners don't know any better) and good travel links, and it's used to strange studentish creatures (and us old folk).
Provisional date 1st and 2nd December ?

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Well then, my brief time at the meetup was fun. It was nice to finally be able to put a face to the username/avatar ofsome people. Much fun was had with games and Blackadder. Many thanks to Qwaz for rides from and to the train station. He also was awesome for pointing out to me that my username sounds like I'm the Optimus Prime of dragons. It's a shame I live so far away, because I'd love to come for another one. Ah well, perhaps in a couple years. If any of you are ever passing through New England one day, you are of course welcome to get in touch for some fun times.
-
Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Well, I made it home. Didn't catch fire, didn't lose any SAN, and didn't get road pizza'd. That probably means I had a safe journey.
Many thanks to Thufir, Tasroth, and their mum for letting me sleep on their floor, thanks to Qwaz and Serpentine for letting me sleep on their floor, and thanks to everyone else who turned up for being awesome. It was nice to meet all of you.
As for location, not really a fan of London. Leicester shouldn't be a problem, however.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Aaaaaand the meet-up weekend is officially officially properly, completely, no way to get around it, definitely over. :smallfrown:
It was great meeting Lix face-to-face finally. I adore Strawberries (which reminds me... *accepts request*) and love her style, and Snow Leopard is lovely (by the way, Qwaz has a bet going with Lime on the subject of your name, cuz he doesn't believe it). Avaris... didn't get to talk to him much, sadly. Seems nice, though - helped me carry water up the stairs. Etcetera was great, it's a real shame you didn't get to stay as long as you thought you would. Speaking of which, it's a bummer Dragonprime couldn't turn up earlier, cuz he's also pretty great. And snores.
Hmmm... Was that everyone I hadn't met before? It would be terrible if I've forgotten someone...
As always, the meet-up day proper disappeared in a flash - heaps of fun, but always feels like it goes so quickly. I loved having people around for longer, though. That picnic on the beach was amazing.
I'll do a proper entry for my travel diary thingo-whatsit in the next few days. In the meanwhilst, I miss you all already :smallfrown:
-
Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
I know what you mean. I always feel a little teary after a meet-up and even though it was 5 days long this time it still seemed too short. I'll jot some proper thoughts down on it tomorrow.
Also, Cassie snores as well. Or it might have been the pig. Not sure.
