Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Near the Beach
Jakob's beaks chatter noisily after Mercutio leaves, sending out a call to the ones he knew were nearby. He could sense them, after all, through his link to the hive.
From the copse of trees came one hulking brute after another, the first a pale yellow and dripping with oozing liquid that its skin constantly secretes. The next sports two large flat heads as its obvious mutation, dark brown hide blending in with the trees extremely well. The third is a shiny, eel-like black with a mane of tendrils waving twitchily in the air. The fourth seems to be almost made of wood, entwined branches replacing muscles and bones, with fluorescent green mushroom caps poking up here and there through the bark. The last is rusty red, the colour of dried blood, and moves dangerously quick. Every motion is a split second of blurs, and it's nearly impossible to track which way its muscles flex and move, as it seems to split off into two separate movements with every action.
"From here, we move as men, and see if the game here will be able to sense our treachery before it becomes evident. Let us go." Jakob's form shifts, becoming transparent mist as the other creatures follow suit, coalescing into a new shape.
The pale one becomes a charming rogue with blond hair and blue eyes. The brown a massive bear of a man with an unshaven face and bared chest under his leather vest. The black is a lithe young lass, clothed in a dark grey robe with the hood pulled up over her head. The wooden one, a wirey old hermit with eyes so deeply entrenched into his skull the wrinkles of his face hide them from sight. The final one becomes a madly grinning psychopath, shock of red hair and manic eyes standing out from the crowd.
Jakob simply returns to his former shape, although at a much reduced stature of seven feet tall. His wounds bleed freely until the robed one walks up to him, chittering, and lays hand upon his brow. After a few moments, he is restored back to a semblance of health, scars sealing overtop his wounds.
"Do not speak until you must reveal yourself." With that final admonition, Jakob slips into the forest, his retinue following suit.

As she stalks through the woods seeking a worthy adversary, she'd best be on her guard. The hunters here come in all shapes and sizes. As she walks past a gnarled walnut tree, no different than any of the other's that grow within the forest, there's a slight stirring of the leaves, both those suspended in the canopy overhead and lying on the forest of floor.
A moment of stillness.
And then roots burst from the ground in an explosion of dirt and loam, seeking to wrap around the archer's feet and pull her to the ground.

It's not easy to do so since a swarm has millions of eyes. She may find a swarm who just managed to kill a cow. They go eat half of it away befor they start carry it away, if not interruppted. Should be know that during they eat non of them keeps guard, but when they are done they will send spies around.

He howls in pain as the bullet embeds itself in the ageless man's flesh. He then twirls to pounce the blue one with deadly accuracy. Unless it dodges it will receive a sword through its jaw.
Clearing
Thanks to the combination of Thenadier's distraction and the red-scaled dinosaur's own agility, his knife goes well clear of the lizard behind him. As he charges towards the yellow one, sword raised, the yellow one next to his target tackles him from the side. Crashing into Thenadier with its shoulder, the force should be enough to knock him over and then some.
On Some Random Hillside
Mercutio didn't know how far he had traveled, and didn't much care at the moment. He appears on the side of a hill, dropping his coat to the ground. Waves of liquid fire surged from his hands, which hung mangled and broken at his sides. Now that he was no longer facing the giant who had inflicted these wounds on him, he was safe to let the anguish show, twisting his face into a grimace of pain. Holding his hands out in front of him, he falls to his knees. Gritting his teeth, he fumbles at the large, leather-bound book hanging on a chain at his side with his elbows and wrists. With some effort, he opens it to the first page and leans over to read from it. He reads each word aloud, his lips forming the terrible, guttural Abyssal. The careful handwriting on the page begins to glow, each word lighting up as he finishes it. When he reaches the end of the spell, he shuts his eyes tight and grits his teeth.
The magic surges through his body and alters it as he willed. In this case, the change is simply to restore his hands to their original state. It's a rather quick process, but not an easy one. The bones re-set, crunching and popping as they shift back into place. The devil trembles with the pain of it, hunched over in the grass.
This won't last long, but it'd certainly be terrible if some beast or hunter found him in this state.

Edge of Desert
Enola continues to dodge and shoot at the ice shards. Out of the corner of her eye, she notices that something else has joined the fight. She decides to wait and see if it is friend or foe.
Then she sees it attack the dragon. If the dragon turns its attention to the newcomer, Enola will take that chance to aim both revolvers at its wings again and get in as many shots as she can.

Cat notices that they've let their guard down, and shoots a medium powered lightning bolt at the group of bees. Surely more than enough to kill a swarm of normal bees, but these aren't normal.

Jaren swears under his breath.

He coils his legs underneath himself and springs fifteen feet into the air, grabbing onto a tree branch and using it as leverage to scramble further up the tree.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Desert
Huh. Doesn't look like the battle's going so good for Enola and Ruber.
A brief debate occurs between the three siblings, as usual taking the form of two for, one fiercely against. It takes less than a blink of an eye for the matter to be settled, expedited by the lack of words allowed by their telepathic mode of communication and the already uneven sides of the argument, the sole dissenter soon brought around to the others' point of view.
Stowing their camping gear safely in a small hollow in the stone, the other two quickly grab their weapons, take up position amidst the boulders and begin lining up shots on the huge Glacial Dragon. They try to keep their movements inconspicuous though, hoping that the distraction provided by the dragon's other opponents will keep it from spotting them.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Wilderness]
An black-skinned elven huntress makes her way through the flatland's. Dressed in a leather harness and a simple leather helmet she is on a fast-paced march through these hostile lands.
This elf is no drow however as unlike her relatives her hair is darker rather then white and her eyes are lacking pupils all together. Instead she have two shining points which easily could be mistaken for a predators at night.
Her face is nondescript, mostly covered by the helmet she's wearing, revealing only purple lips formed into a straight line, giving the elf an very determined expression.
On her back is a longbow and a scimitar tied up, providing relatively easy access to them. As she moves on an observer might note that her feet doesn't leave any tracks nor does she give away any smell at all.

Pathfinder has longer to fall, being near the head, so is clipped by the monster's arm, sending him reeling for a moment, dizzied by the blow, but Waterstrider crouches as soon as he hits the ground, getting under the limbs before spinning and rising with a roar. His phantom paw reaches out in an attempt to disembowel it and his claws should easily be able to slice through the flesh.
[Wolfen At The Cave]
Given that the big black monster is dazed from the impact as well, Waterstrider's paw will find itself digging into the soft flesh of the creatures belly. It screams, a high pitched sounds that may leave the wolfen ears ringing as it leaps away.
There's only a moment where it stands looking at the pair of them where it leaps, its entrails in a line behind it, before it collapses. It's given into the pain, and will be dead in less than a minute.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Wolfen At The Cave
The pair of hunters recover with a few breaths, and while Waterstrider begins pulling out the barbed spines carefully from his chest, Pathfinder pulls out his other knife and moves to give the creature a clean and quick end. There wasn't any call for it to be left to suffer. He'll cradle the animal's head against himself and scratch it's ears gently. <Many respects, brother. You did us a great honor. May you hunt again.> He tells it in Wolfen before slipping the blade into the base of it's skull as quickly as possible.
With the spines removed, Waterstrider begins to collect their equipment once more as his brother begins cutting to the creature's heart for them to split and feast upon. It'd take a while, so it'd give them some rest before they continued their Hunting Spree.
Wilderness
As she moves, Michicora will feel a moist warmth pass by her, as if it were someone's breath and a feeling of unease will begin to grow around her as the air begins to still and noise quieten. Something was wrong and approaching quickly.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Wolfen at the Cave]
As the Wolfen go about their carving out the heart, a crack of lightning strikes the ground out of the clear sky.
A pair of crossed spears, made from what appears to be bone are left where the lightning struck, with Scales taken from the creature that they killed left as a trophy hanging off the spear heads on leather thongs. they're beautifully made, and perfectly sized for the Wolfen.

Stopping the huntress pulls out her long bow and attempts to determine where the heat is coming from so she could go in the opposite direction. She did not prefer open spots as battlegrounds. Better fight on her own terms.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Wolfen At The Cave
The brothers shield their eyes at the flash of light and shake their head to stop the ringing of their ears. They can't help but look at the beautiful spears, and Waterstrider walks over to examine one by picking it up. He spins it slowly, checking the balance and finding it perfect. The edges are sharp and the shaft strong. It was a spear that anyone could only imagine.
With an amused grunt, he sets it back in its place and walks to his brother, ignoring them as Pathfinder shares half the beast's heart and drink some of the blood to sustain themselves. If they aren't interrupted, Pathfinder will apply some leaves to his brother's wounds before they go back into the forest once more.
Wilderness
The warm air seems to be a slight breeze that shifts directions quite a bit. Michicora will likely catch the smell of grave-dirt and death. After a moment though, a figure simply appears about a hundred feet away. The person appears human, but has extremely pale skin where it shows through her ancient suit of plate and chain armor. She carries no shield and looks at Michi with a gaze full of utter hatred as she draws her two handed sword from her back, glowing with green runes. The white-haired woman roars as she suddenly charges forward, moving way too quickly for someone impeded by such heavy armor, about as quickly as Michicora herself.

The spears remain where they are throughout this entire time - they will be there as long as the Wolfen remain. When they leave, the spears dissolve to golden sand, a gift denied.

[The Desert]
FLASH!
The glacial dragon roars in frustration as he's dazzled by the attack! He pumps his wings and flies higher into the sky, making himself and harder target for the irritating little people on the ground.
And for good measure?
All the ice crystals down in the sand begin exploding. Though this time ice shards don't arc toward anyone in particular since the dragon can't see them. Just random shrapnel flying everywhere!
Like a minefield down there!

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Icy Plateau
Wrapped in incandescent, molten fury, a strange object, a mysterious blur, a my vague something plummets from the heavens. Dropping out of the sky at a maddeningly fast pace, it crashes through cloud after cloud, effortlessly obliterating them like a cannonball through thin sheets of glass. The very skies themselves howl in agony as this blazing inferno rockets through them, sonic disruptions ripping about the troposphere in its wake.
When the thing finally hits the ground, boy, does it hit. The crash is heard for miles, and is felt from even farther out. Speaking of that crash, water isn't supposed to show up in a place as chilly and frigid as this one, much less steaming, boiling water in an enormous crater. Jeez, you'd think someone could have at least tried to slow down a little. :smallyuk:
That inconsiderate someone, of course, is none other than the one and only What Pumpkin. It's been a while, hasn't it? We haven't seen him since he was mucking about, trying to steal an object from some silvery-skinned aliens, if I remember correctly. I guess he finally got it off of them. I'm not sure if it was really worth being shot out of a giant alien cannon and getting trapped in Nexus orbit for the few months he was gone, but that's what obsession will do to you.
His cloth body is a little ragged, and his pumpkin head has been mushed up a bit, but for a man (err...man-thing, I guess) who just survived the sort of conditions that would've killed almost anyone else in existence several times in a row, he's looking none the worse for wear. Man, he even still has most of his toys intact and tucked away in that black suit of his!
With his usual machine-like efficiency, What immediately picks himself up and starts walking. He silently notes that his hammer is more or less all out of power for now, having blown most of it just generating a strong enough shield to survive his collision with the ground. Good. He prefers killing things in melee range and with much sharper instruments, anyway. It might be a while before he finds something to cut, though. He's not exactly close to...well, much of anything, really. At least he can't go hungry though, right? :smalltongue:

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Desert]
Hovering only a few meters above the ground, Ruber's met with the flying ice chunks as well.
Okay, fire would be really useful about now! But this time when he opens his mouth, and succeeds in spewing more ice about the place, he decides maybe the dragon had the right of it and begins to drag himself upwards with his wings.
At least he's a small target. Which is why he believes he's escaped the flying shards, the adrenaline coursing through his veins not letting him feel the jagged slash down his leg, which is dousing the sand and ice beneath him with a generous amount of red.
"Is the dragon running?" The small child wonders aloud. "We was only playing." Intent on 'playing' with the dragon some more, Ruber digs in his small pouch, the idea that it's a bag of holding given away when he stuffs his entire arm in, searching.

What's the result of a desire to work out some anger and no sense of direction? Gordon, still wearing the torn remains of his black tenchcoat, is wandering the hills, looking for something to hurt.

If you're having a really hard time finding someone to interact with, shoot me a PM and I'll see what I can do.))
Hills
Well, as Gordon explores the rolling hillsides of the Hunting Grounds, he may hear a quickly-smothered yelp of pain.
The source of the cry is a blue-skinned devil, three or four hills away from Gordon and out of his direct line of sight. Mercutio is on his knees, bent over with his hands tucked inside the curve of his body but not actually touching anything. The broken bones twist and shift as they heal from the crushing they suffered at the, ah, hands of a giant. They appear to be in their final stages, and within a few agonizing moments they are whole again. Still grimacing, Mercutio flexes his fingers and thumbs for a few moments. The pain almost hadn't been worth it, but as a scholar... Well, he rather needed his hands.
Standing, Mercutio shakes out his palms and bends over to pick up his coat. As he pulls it onto his shoulders, he looks around and examines the area. There had to be something around here he could study.
Forest
It is, very definitely, a freakin' dinosaur. The tyrannosaurus rex's big nostrils flare as it shuffles slowly another few steps forward. Even moving so slowly and lightly, the tree Jaren's hiding in still trembles at its steps. Making low pitched huffing and chuffing sounds to itself, the dinosaur's big head roams up and down, back and forth, as it tries to sniff out the location of its prey.
Jaren might have to take things into his own hands. The longer he stays in one spot the more likely the t-rex is to sniff him out. And there's no way that can end well.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Clearing
Wow these things were tough! He gets knocked onto the ground hard, his cut up and dirty navy and gold coat hitting the floor. His long black hat falls to the side exposing his grey hair. The Ex-Haloite (At the moment) growls as his sword changes into a long spear. He charges the nearest dinosaur, trying to impale it and maybe pin it to the ground. He howled in battle frenzy. A bead hanging on his necklace glows, setting to work on healing his hand. Thenadier is using a spear with only one hand though, and might miss.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Wilderness
The elves eyes focuses on the vampire a moment, charging like a madman? That suggested it either was stupid, had some sort of advantage or had some back up. The second option was likely, moving around like that with such an armor wasn't natural. It didn't exclude her having back-up though but one of the few advantages of a flat area was that you saw the enemy too.
She quickly pulls an arrow from her quiver and waits one moment, both to get a better aim and to get the enemy closer before releasing the bow-string. She's aiming for the throat, having no prior knowledge about vampires since they don't exist in her world.
But she still count in the chance she'll miss of course and is quick to throw the bow away once it's done it's work and pull out her scimitar. This would be a hard fight if the woman didn't die of the arrow. Apparently the armor of hers didn't impede on her movements which was the major advantage a lighter armor like hers had over the woman's. In Michicora's world heavy armor was only used by nobles and generals that fought on horseback and mostly wanted heavy armor to protect against stray arrows.
She won't meet blade with the woman if she reaches her though, scimitars were hardly made to meet the kind of force two-hands use. Instead she attempts to dodge the initial attack, counting on the momentum of the heavy sword to at least drive the woman forward before looking for a weak spot in the armor to make a cut against.
The scimitar wasn't exactly ideal for this kind of combat but it had to do for now as her other hand reaches the dagger in her belt at the same time.

A dozen of the Xandits die by the bolt. Cat may notice that this is less than should die. The once around the dead Xandits are shocked or Paraliest, but the rest is now aware of the enemy. All not shocked or dead xandits start flying up and to the direction the bolt came from.

Well, someone else is out here. From the sound of it, there won't be much fight in them, but in Gordon's current state of temper, he doesn't care. So, as best as he can, he heads for the sound of the yelp.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Wilderness
Luckily for Michicora that she doesn't have to know anything about vampires anyway, as this isn't one. That said, the arrow hits the mark and halts the woman's charge. She's dazed and reaches up to the arrow lodged in her throat. With a grunt, she pulls it out and tosses it to the ground. She doesn't bleed, but the attack definitely left her wary, as if it scared her. Instead of charging forward, she shifts her blade into a defensive position in front of her and begins to step forward slowly.
Hilly Plains
After their encounter with the lizard-cat, the Wolfen brothers rested for just a moment before continuing on their journey, loping through the small forest and getting to the Plains. As beaten up as they already are, they can't help but feel invigorated by the experience. For once, they've finally been able to cut loose and run wild, hunting anything and everything in their way.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Hilly Plains]
As the pair of Wolfen cross the hills, the bright, hot sunlight is suddenly blocked by something... something big. Like a pair of massive wings. And the shadow appears to be getting bigger, meaning whatever is is swooping down...
[Swamp]
A certain master swordsman from Watchtower has heard the call and arrived here to hone his skills. Unfortunately for him, the part of the Hunting Grounds closest to Watchtower appears to be a swamp. So for now, Wenomir trudges through the marsh, in his full armor, his sword in his hand and his throwing daggers ready on his belts.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Forest
Mateo the vampire continues trampling his way through the forest, slashing at anything in his path with clawed fingernails and stomping loudly on the forest floor, snapping twigs and kicking stones. It's quite loud, and deliberately so- Mateo's making lots of noise to attract the attention of the local predators.
Sky- Mountains
A piggasus is here, squealing loudly to proclaim its territory. The porcine monster has black skin with a sparse covering of short, coarse black hairs. Jutting from its shoulders are a pair of immense, black-feathered wings, which beat powerfully to keep it aloft. The creature's about the size of a large bull, and its mouth is adorned with four large, sharp tusks jutting from its lower jaw.
-
Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
((Much more important announcement:
I've added a list of characters to my first post on page one. Please go read over it and the accompanying explanation! Thanks!))
Clearing:
Well, the lizards are quite strong and Thenadeir doesn't have a lot of momentum. So it's rather difficult, at first, to knock over the blue dinosaur. I say at first, though, because it goes down quite handily when Thenadeir plunges his spear into it. The blade pierces its scales, and the shaft is driven up to it's heart. The lizard lets out a loud, keening cry, and falls backwards. Now Thenadeir can pin it!
Unfortunately, that leaves him in the rather awkward position of being between two angry dinosaurs having just killed two of their friends. The yellow one throws its head back and then leans forward heavily, spitting another bullet out at the warrior. The red one behind him, meanwhile, will try to lash out with its prehensile tongue and grab Thenadier's spear.
Hills:
Gordon has little difficulty crossing the hills, unless he is commonly defeated by slight inclines. After a minute or two, he comes to the top of a hill where he can quite clearly see the blue devil described earlier. It doesn't look like Mercutio's seen Gordon or is aware of his presence. The devil has his back to him, his attention turned up to the sky as he tracks what appears to be a pterodactyl. There's some sort of silvery light welling up in his palms, and his tail is swaying from side to side in concentration.
Swamp
As Wenomir makes his way through the swamp, a peculiar noise reaches him. It sounds like a sort of high-pitched wu-wuu-wu-wuu-wu-wuu, repeating over and over again. Judging by how much louder it's getting, it seems to be coming straight towards him.
In fact, soon enough a creature appears in the mists and haze of the swamp. It appears to be some sort of airborne fish. It has a long, round body, graceful fins that flow behind it like curtains, and a narrow and pointed nose.

Forest
If he's looking to attract attention, he's certainly accomplished that. From the trees a bit ahead and to either side of him black shapes move swiftly, darting back and forth rapidly.
The one on the left seems to be a mess of vein and bone, ribcage standing out over a dangling skeletal arm that ends in two long bone claws. The skin it has is jaundiced and sloughs over its serpentine frame like melted wax, innards peeking out here and there through it. Its beaked head chitters excitedly, dripping blood from a sore just under its tongue and revealing a pair of folding fangs sticking out from its palate.
The rightmost one is much more frail, but seems healthier than its obviously infected brother, bearing greenish-brown skin and lean muscle down the length of its body. Its arm is much more scythe-like in nature, bearing only a single point, and its tail splits into three seperate tendrils that wrap around the trunk of a nearby tree for balance.
Neither attacks for the moment, they just chitter back and forth and wait to see how Mateo moves. Any sign of aggression or fear will be noted by their small, hidden eyes.
