You should see her mien. I think the preponderance of shadows are a relic of Stephanie being made of shadows and only looking normal ecauae reality is cruel.
Also, good sir and or miss Story Time, we're you in the pony thread IRC recently? Well, like, within the last month and a half? Speech pattern similarity and all.

It's an excellent adaptation artist who sees things that the original creators do not.
Yes. Marchande has that thing where you forget she's still a child. I ha the same reaction in a positive fashion.

I agree that it's anatomically off, but think it works best for this picture. It's a testament to his skill at eyeballing things.

Holy sweet gravy, comic composition is
way harder than I thought.
SiuiS challenged me to make a comic. I'm shooting for Dresden Codak style interesting comic layouts, and they're really, really hard. However, I think that in terms of composition this one really works. I'm super glad I didn't do this in grid boxes as was my first instinct. I followed my tutorials and remembered all my framing rules and they paid off huge.
Don't get too picky on the sketches, it's a first pass and composition focused. Based off a fight scene Stephanie recently had.

Man. Only took me a full fifty ish pages toget you to try it! Poor Minos.
What tutorials and framing rules do you speak of? I like comics, buti also like details that are a pain to replicate, so anything to smooth the process is nice.

Part of it was eyeballing Dresden Codak comic layouts, part of it was these tutorials on composition:
Seriously, those are fundamental and are completely changing the way I think about drawing.

As of tomorrow I shall be heading north to Australia's only population centre of significance or worth. I will probably have access to internet, but as with all travel I add the disclaimer that posting is not guaranteed between now and after the new year.
I'm still going to draw every day but circumstances may prohibit me from uploading on time. Rest assured it's happening and I'll be back!
Happy holidays, one and all.

I like it, personally. My only thought might be to add an eye glint/highlight line, possibly, although that might alter the mood.

Fabulous. This clarifies exactly what I did wrong when trying to skip effort and cracking out ass-panels to fill the page.

I'd suggest minimum ambience. One eye (closest?) bottom line, outer line like an L shape tracing the lid. Other eye, single line at bottom of eyelid.

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
I have wrestled away connection to the writhing, broiling seas of information and flow from Proteus, even though he changed from a moth to a mountain to a color that was where rocks met the sky, so that I might claim what the Elfsmith, Thanqol Who Questions, has made for me for the price of a song and a kiss.
And here I say to him: not what I half-expected, and this is good. It already suggests a new way to see posts, to hear voice and presence. Also, Rarity P.I. airs next Saturday, starring Rarity McBelle as an investigator on the edge and Applejack Smith as a tough beat cop with a heart of gold and a liver of iron.
Incidentally, that's a wonderful story. I take it to be true for two reasons. The first is that no honest liar would put words in his grandmother's mouth, and the second is that a world where that story is true is preferable to a world where that story is not true.

Yep!
My great-grandfather was a general in the White Army. When the revolution hit, he put his family on the last train out of Russia and said he'd catch up to them in China.
And he did.
On foot.
Having crossed all of Siberia and Mongolia.
Man was a badass.
My grandmother was also introduced to the Dowager Empress of China back before the War.

You're right, being Thanqol is far superior to being royalty - kind of like how an emperor outranks a king. Doesn't mean I can't also hold kingdom titles but they're not the primary title.

Quite.
Day 590: Emerghewd
Emerghewed I'm so awfully out of practice with pen and paper it's embarrassing.
One of my grand-uncles was Constantine Kluge, a famous french painter, and my grandmother's house is full of his paintings. Worth a fortune there alone - Kluge's work has sold for over $1m Euros in the past, but she wouldn't dream of giving up those precious gifts.
I always thought those paintings were boring until I started learning how to draw. Now I can see that they're masterpieces. Wow... just wow.
Anyway, if you really want to look at today's rubbish, here you go:

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Murder mysteries are always fun. Unless you were the one who was murdered... That always ruins one's evening.
Anyway... Constructive criticism... I just tried replicating that hand position, and it feels incredibly unnatural to hold one's thumb like that, not to mention uncomfortable. Try it yourself and you'll see that the natural place for the thumb when one holds up one index finger like that is to rest against the middle finger.
Also... What's with the approximately 110 degree angle made by the hair above the ear? I can't seem to reconcile the angularity of it with my knowledge of how hair works. That could be stylistic choice on your part, but it looks weird.
Lastly, if she is a she, something I should probably already know by now, her hand appears very masculine. If he is a he, then he is very androgynous.
If it is neither, then my confusion is understandable.

Urgh hands. My own fault, I've been avoiding them again, got to practise the base concepts again. I still haven't found a way to break them down effectively in my head. Thanks for the prompt.
The hair thing was basically 'I dunno, I think it looks better that way'.

No one can draw hands. It's an irrefutable fact. The only tip I can give you is that if the hand position is one that you cannot physically replicate without pain, then why is the person in the drawing holding their hand that way?
I'll give you that. After all, it's a stylistic choice as to how the hair looks. One I disagree with, but you're not drawing for me.

That isn't so bad. I'm doing it right now. It's natural if her fist was balled up in her pocket and she pulled it out to gesture. From fist to this works. If her hand was neutral, yeah.

Slightly different gesture than I tried, but I tried them both with my right hand. Turns out my left is just being difficult for some reason.
