Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Whoa, temporal whiplash!
Hopefully Annie doesn't feel like an insect compared to Jones, now...
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Now we just need to launch Jones into space to see what happens.

I think the time travel theory is highly unlikely. My theory is that Jones is an inversion of Coyote's theory, a supernatural being whose thoughts indirectly caused life to come into existence and humanity to be created (explaining how she can appear human and act passably human, but predate humanity).

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Jones has been pantomiming her backstory throughout this entire flashback. She just got to the part where she strips naked.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Jones is actually Tom. Mystery solved.

Also, this comic is hilarious. I mean the drawing is great, but Tom totally blindsided me with a punchline in the comments.
I didn't even realize all the wikipedia linking would form into a punchline.
I cackled like a maniac when I saw that last link. Well played, Tom, well played.

Hrrrrrrmmmmm.
Raz and kpenguin like this webcomic.
To read, or not to read...

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Annie's face and that wiki link made this whole chapter worth it. I laughed so hard people stared. Well played, Tom!
Also, is this actually going to answer any questions, or is that it?

I think that's going to be it.
And... I do think that confirms someone's statement from earlier...

Are you implying that Earth formed because Jones was there for it to form around?

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
This comic is like science: All the answers lead to more questions.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
This better have a payoff. :smallannoyed:
I don't want mysteries for the sake of mysteries.
Even detective stories have the mystery change something.

More specifically, she's naked from the waist up and is pantomining how she wrestled a buffalo.

And Antimony is the buffalo.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
If she is as dense as shown, certain forms of physical intimacy (if they are even possible) sound bruising and painful.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
More and more, I get the feeling that Jones has no idea who Jones is. That the fact that a species that just happened to look like her appeared after billions of years is a mystery to her too.

You say this as if that kind of thing ever stopped humans from getting it on with mythological entities.
I mean, someone in Annie's family tree got it on with a living bonfire. Compared to that, some crushing seems minor.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Living Bonfire..........Got it on with a living bonfire........
OH MY GOD!
GG is the future of adventure time!
After most of the crazy magics calm down, the world repeats itself in terms of development!

Badass Princess?
Heavy Princess?
More likely she's not a Princess and is more like Billy.

We honestly don't know enough about what an elemental is in this universe to really say for sure. We do know that Jones is dense and incredibly resilient.

Or not.

Annie still needs to ask her about the stars in the night sky.
I have a worrying feeling that the answer will be …
Spoiler
Show
There aren't any.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
You get this sense of incredulity from Annie's expressions in this particular comic that is particularly interesting, especially since she is usually not the skeptical one.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Well! That was more than I was expecting. I was all but certain we wouldn't find out exactly why or how Jones is so old (either Annie wouldn't be told, or we'd skip past it). That Jones doesn't know either is intriguing.
I can't help but be reminded of this exchange from the Fellowship of the Ring:
Quote:
Frodo: "Tell me, lady, who is Tom Bombadil?"
Goldberry: "He is."
