They are made of ceramic, not glass.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
You know, the more I learn about (D&D) goblin culture and the religions of their gods, the more I have to conclude that the Viper Clan (but especially Grem and Duv) are bad at being goblins, but especially bad at being goblin leaders. The Vipers behave like rabid orcs and they suffer for it constantly because they play up to none of their race's strengths and fail to utilize the positive/helpful aspects of their religion. No wonder Biscuit cut them down by the dozens - dude's an actual orc and not a pale imitation of one.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Biscuit's yelling his "very sunny day" refrain. He doesn't want to waste it killiing goblins. He'll be saving Prince Grem by feeding him a healing potion.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
In the bottom of the last panel, are those supposed to be three arrowheads quivering because they are still on the bow and the goblins are scared, shaking a little from being in flight, or three spears shaking because the goblins are scared?
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I'm guessing they're melee weapons. The goblins aren't holding their fire.

I was going with scared spear tips, but I believe we've only seen the Vipers with swords at this location so far (apart from the archers). The lines don't look right to me for in-flight arrows, which leaves scared archers.

"You DARE to make the Prince look like a fool? FOR THAT YOU SHALL DIE!"
It would be almost as dumb as Fox sparing Duv.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Btw, I count about 11 healing potions in his mouth when he starts chewing. You know what? If I was a goblin, I would be trembling in terror too right about now. Its like he just got healed to full. Only weakness is he now only has one leg. With both legs he pretty much wiped out the entire clan. Now he has to mop up the few survivors, and grem just got knocked to -7, so unless someone crams 3-4 potions down HIS throat, he is out of this.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Try doing something that requires physical activity while using only one leg. It's not going to be that easy for him. Thankfully he isn't screwed anymore. I hope.:smalleek:

They're being scared into submission.
They just plugged him with like fifteen arrows when he was already horribly injured and he wouldn't go down. Then they watched him lop off his own leg, take down their chief, and fully heal. And now he's just staring at them. Daring them, as his only remaining targets, to keep firing.
By this point, would you be thinking any amount of arrows would really make a difference? Guy's invincible. I'm guessing they're just about to run.

Can he hop faster than they can run? He has a chance by making a deal: they surrender and drop their weapons and he gives them potions to heal the prince.

Well, no. That's... that's why they would run. :smallconfused:
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
His speed should be considerably hindered. Not just from 30 ft to 20 ft or so, but maybe down to 10 or even 5 ft. He just has one leg!
He has to be careful to not just fall over. Even standing up should be quite a challenge.
They goblins need to stay out of range and shoot him. Preferably shoot his good leg.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Far as the one leg business goes, couldn't he just use a brazier stand as a crutch? There should be a good sized part of one right next to him and there are intact ones scattered around.

Then I am confused, if he can't get them why would they run? He's vulnerable to hit and run tactics, he's doomed, it's just a question of time.

Fear is the Key. If you terrified you are NOT going to think properly.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I don't think these goblins know or understand hit and run tactics.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Just do what Caliborn did. Grab a hunk of metal and shove it into the stump :P

But the whole point of the "very sunny day," refrain is that, no matter how much sunlight there is, there's always more bloodshed and horror.

Maybe he's got so much musclepower that he can creep across the ground by "crawling" his toes. Though of course he'll want to watch where he's going, that finger is still laying around somwhere.

Not just "somewhere", but shown in the last panel.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Anyone else notice the lone healing potion in Panel 3 that Grem is running away from and presumably just got axe-slammed back next to?

It's uncorked if you look closely.

He's shown himself to be very adept at throwing things. He just needs to get to his axe and he'll bisect them.
And like HandofShadows said, fear. You can see they're not thinking straight by their current actions. They're so scared that they're holding fire. That's not logical. Shooting something would be better than, literally, doing nothing, but they're terrified.

I think that's the one that he already drank and was lying on the ground next to him after that.

Dellyn had a wound almost as nasty as that and while I don't think he went down to negatives from it, having something that large through his heart and lung area should have killed him outright.
If Grem can be stabilised and subsequently healed he's going to have one heck of a scar, but the wound itself? It's just hitpoint damage.

Dellyn had Ranger Levels. Not many, but he probably had more HP than Grem.
Also, as this is a D&D world, that last bit really doesn't hold much weight.

That's... that's his point. You're agreeing with him. :smalltongue:

He has three limbs. He could still be pretty fast by walking on his knuckles. Ever seen a one-legged frog hopping around, or a one legged dog running? They're a lot faster than you'd expect.
