Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I seem to be the only one that doesn't like the new coloring too much. Oh well. Maybe it's just a case of having to get used to it.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
In his case, his pirate name would clearly be Clearbeard or Ghostbeard.

Personally, I think it's nice, but I can see how it could come off as being "too much", as it were.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
He literally just burst through a giant flaming torch thing, destroying it and sending bright pieces of fire flying in every direction as he tries to get the Goblin.
And people are saying "Well he totally should have seen the little bland-coloured finger that was on the ground on the other side of the fire!"?
What!?

Not only that. If you consider the size of the finger and the surface area of the world it's so unlikely that a randomly placed footstep would hit the finger that it's like literally impossible that he would step on it.

No, that's not what I'm saying at all. What I'm saying is that it's an extremely anti-climactic way to kill the character and it's sucking the drama from this scene.

I have a sneaking suspicion we are supposed to be rooting for the Goblin, but I'm not feeling it.

I didn't say you were saying that. There were other people who said "He should have seen that and not stepped on it."

Neither am I, really.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
What I find odder is that Grem didn't touch the finger despite rolling through the exact same area.

I third this sentiment. Grem (I think thats his name?) while understandable….just isn't a guy you root for. the white goblin never really caught my sympathy. He is more like one of those bland pseudo-pathetic guys you wouldn't wish dead, but if he died, you wouldn't really care.

Exactly. Too over-the-top for me.

Yes... only problem being, I feel that way about Biscuit too. Oh well, I said this was my less favourite storyline.

I see this misconception a lot, here and in the Goblins forum. Big K did not eat the finger, he never even licked it. He almost did, and then Grem interrupted him. No, the reason he failed the saves is because the original stat-block called for DC 29 saving throws.

He landed on his knees though, and he's got pants on. He could very well have landed on the finger and been fine since it didn't touch flesh. I think his momentum carried him past it though.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
The wiki says organic matter.
Unless he's wearing metal-mesh pants, it should still affect at least the pants.
Does anyone have a link to the stats given?

We don't need a link to the stats. He was shown handling the finger with gloved hands, therefore his pants would also protect him.

Hmm, still, I would like to look at them.

There's a link at the very bottom of that wiki page.

Nah, that's not a good idea. You'd inevitably end up with Captain Clambeard.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
To me, it's not the "hard to see beige on dirt," it's the fact that Biscuit batted the finger away to his RIGHT, then charged STRAIGHT AHEAD into Grem. Even though Biscuit had no idea what that finger could do, the fact that Grem threw it at him told him that it was probably dangerous. So Biscuit got rid of is as quickly as he could.
And yes, Biscuit has been on stage more recently, has a more sympathetic back story, and I relate to him more than I do Grem.
Biscuit strikes me as the type to self amputate, once he splits Grem from stem to stern. Have to wait and see.

Yeah. He is a character who seems rather arrogant, and the only reason I'd think he'd continue is because of his relationship with Saves.

Or the feared Dwarven buccaneer, Captain Beardbeard.

Same here. Except I don't care for Biscuit a bit more then Grem, so I hope the orc dies. That doesn't mean I hope Grem survives.
As for the finger, why would he assume it's the finger of Mr Fingers? Even if he was aware of it (which I still don't think is necessary or even likely), he wouldn't necessarily recongize a single, severed finger.
Grem knows what it is, knows where it landed and made sure not to touch it. He probably lured Biscuit that way, hoping that he'd step on it.

And then Grem Dodged Biscuit's downward swing to Biscuit's right, (the same direction that the finger flew) and continued running. Basically, it's sheer dumb luck that Biscuit landed on the finger. Yes, he landed on it. He was somehow in the air when he broke the burning lamp thingy.

was it just me or the comic has increased its shading?

It's just you. Totally not the new artist that was hired and mentioned in the latest (sept 14) post. :smalltongue:

He hired a colorist. I pointed it out in this thread. We talked about it for most of a page.:smallconfused:

Presumably this will give Thunt more time to be with his family which is great news.

Actually it's because he touched the finger with his bare flesh. Saving throws have nothing to do with it, because Game stats do not matter in the comic

Ehh, I have a weakness for Big Badass Bruisers. But in the end, I think he has potential. Getting over tragedy unbelievably fast is actually one of the more original defining character traits I've heard of, and I would like to see how that is developed, and think it could be played with quite a bit.
Grem, Grem likes some girl who doesn't like him back. Ok, I guess there definitely can be a lot of development in confronting his mom, but he already had quite awhile for me to grow attached to him, and I have not.

No, he ate the head. And then died, with the last words "I do the eating."
